Product Description

Briwax is a solvent based blend of beeswax and carnauba wax. Briwax has long been recognized by furniture restoration professionals as a premiere, multi-purpose furniture wax. It produces a lustrous patina, not a glossy surface shine. It is suitable for use as a finish on new wood or stripped furniture, a reconditioner for old or damaged finishes, a furniture wax for fine furniture and antiques or an antiquing agent where the desire is to "age" a newly painted carving or project. Tinted waxes can be lightened or removed with the clear wax. 1 Pound.

I am super happy with this product. I stripped and sanded my parents old Queen Anne dining room table. I wanted to leave the wood as natural as possible so waxing or oiling were the options I looked at. I ordered three products to try and sampled them on a small piece of unfinished oak that I had. They were Briwax, Mahoneys wax finish, and Howards butcher block conditioner. The Briwax dried faster and left a beautiful smooth finish and was super easy to apply. The only negative is that it does smell pretty strong. The other two products had no offending smell but took longer to dry and were a bit oily to the touch. It would have taken a few days with drying in between coats for the Mahoney's and possible the Howard's . With the Briwax I put on three coats and polished the table all within a few hours. Very natural looking and super smooth

There is that heavy & strong chemical smell that you can't do anything about because nothing else works this good. Trust us we've tried them all. This is what professional furniture designers use all across the globe. But stop reading buy it for yourself. You will find we are right on the spot about it.

Almost forgot. The price is painful. I mean why does it have to be so high? It didn't always cost this much. But if you are the best then throwing it under "life cycle cost" is worth it in the end. But I don't have to like it.

Very happy with this wax! Used it to put a clear protective finish on my "salvaged pine" Restoration Hardware dining table based on the reccomedation of the company to specifically use this wax. I applied it with a "chalk painters oval wax brush" (also from Amazon - see my other reviews) and it went on great. It has very strong fumes, similar to an oil based primer or a polyurethane, but they disappated quickly. At first when it dried, after about 24-72 hours, it still had a very waxy candle-like feel and I wasn't extremely happy with that (posted pictures are from 1 day after I finished waxing it). However, after about 2 or 3 weeks it really cured and the waxy feel is almost not noticeable. I actually really like it now. It gives a nice hard matte finish to the table.

I used about 3/4 of the can for a 72" X 33" table, including the fairly intricate table base.

I haven't experienced it turning white in crevases or when it gets wet whatsoever, and we eat dinner with our 2 year old daughter every night on the table. In fact, she spilled water all over the table last night and it just beaded up and wiped off with zero problems. I will definitely be using this wax for other furniture projects in the future.

I love how this makes our antique pine furniture look. I also hate applying it the way they recommend. I learned a different way from an antique pine furniture seller-restorer. Warm it up so it is a liquid and apply with a paintbrush. It goes on fast and penetrates deep, leaving a nice coat of wax. To warm the wax I leave it in the sun, or put it in warm water. Let it dry for an hour then polish it up. It may be hard to rub your microfiber cloth at first but it quickly smooths out and then polishes up to a great shine and color. You throw the paintbrush away afterward, or maybe try to save it for the next wax job. You use more wax with this method, but the application goes a lot faster with a lot less effort.

First, the product works great. It applies well and the surfaces look great. It protects and enhances. Wood furniture looks better for having it and will last longer besides. High end custom furniture stores use this stuff.

But on the downside you need to apply it in a well ventilated area. I don't just mean a room open to another room, or even a room with an open window. I mean a room with a fan that vents to outside or actually being outside. Stick a box fan in the window. If you don't vent properly the toluene solvent that keeps the wax soft until after you apply it will make you ill. Short term you can expect a headache and maybe a burn in your throat. Higher exposure by applying a lot in a very small room could be even more serious. Long term damage includes neurological disorders. Luckily the stuff evaporates quickly and so you don't have any long term exposure issues.

This product contains natural waxes in a quickly evaporating solvent. Just need to work in a well ventilated area. Best applied with fine steel wool or the brush Briwax sells. You can buff to a lovely satin finish or not. It will resist moisture, but marks can be managed with a bit more wax and buffing. I used clear on some Amish barnwood furniture I had custom made and the med brown tone on some new unfinished furniture. They turned out gorgeous.

This is the only product I use on my natural pine furniture. While waxing is labor intense, this product is perfect for protecting your natural pine tables. Note: use a drop cloth to catch excess wax that hits the floor while polishing (with a brush) otherwise floors become unbelievably slippery!

This product has been around virtually unchanged since 1860. I've used every color they make and have finished / refinished everything from cedar tables to walnut cabinets. This is a fantastic product that is easy to use, versatile and gets the job done quickly. Granted, it takes a bit of "elbow grease" with the finish being buffed to a shine rather than how other products are brushed on and allow to dry. If you're expecting a deep gloss finish like polyurethanes offer this is *not* what you want. This is a deep penetrating wax/stain that leaves a classic top coat wood finish. With a little effort, you should find this to be an excellent product that has weathered the test of time with customers all over the world.
