Product description
CORNELL CHRIS SCREAM
About the Artist
Chris Cornell is a rock icon who thrives on contradictions. An innovator who resists genre labels, he was nonetheless the chief architect of the 90s grunge movement. Frequently ranked as one of the best voices in music history, he has successfully maintained his own unique identity over more than two decades as a multi-Grammy award winning musician and universally acclaimed singer, songwriter and lyricist.
Seattle trailblazers Soundgarden were a law to themselves, edgy, dark and deeply individual. Their savage soundscapes, coupled with Cornell's incisive lyrics and predatory roar, seduced audiences hungry for musical depth and complexity while leading trends in street fashion and iconic design. In 1989, they became the first Seattle band to sign to a major label. Their sound continued to change and evolve over the course of five pioneering albums.
Celebrated side project Temple of the Dog had already shown Cornell's more soulful side and introduced future Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder to the world. Later, Cornell shocked the business once again with richly melodic, critically acclaimed solo album "Euphoria Morning", swiftly recognized for its alienation and despair. And as the millennium turned, he joined with three other musical pioneers from rap-rock's Rage Against The Machine to create Audioslave - a multi-platinum supergroup which lived to deny its detractors, producing three top-selling albums, touring the world and becoming the first American band to bring rock to Castro's Cuba.
Since then, Cornell has redefined his sound and vision to encompass new music, new collaborations and new activities. Having contributed solo songs to movie soundtracks from "Great Expectations" to "Mission Impossible II", he became the first American male singer to write the theme song for the James Bond franchise in its most successful film to date, "Casino Royale." His bold and bluesy reinvention of Michael Jackson dance classic "Billie Jean" courted controversy and attracted imitators. And his triumphant 2007 world tour brought together songs from every stage of his career, reinterpreting them for new audiences and blending their original fire with the shock of the new.
Outside music, Cornell fronted fashion designer John Varvatos's Spring 2006 collection and settled in Paris with his family, where he has helped revive a historic restaurant, the stylish Black Calavados.
Only the most confident would claim to predict exactly what comes next for Chris Cornell. Always eclectic, always experimental, his new collaboration with super-producer Timbaland - who calls their album "the best work I've done in my career" - will take him into fresh territory, establishing a new sound and marking the creation of a masterpiece that breaks all musical boundaries. Only one thing's for sure - Chris Cornell will continue to break rules, make history and challenge everyone's expectations.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2009I was first introduced to the work of Chris Cornell during the opening credits of the more recent 007 movie, "Casino Royale". To me, the opening title sequence, accompanied by Cornell's haunting rendition of "You Know My Name" was just as good, on its own, as the movie itself. I immediately went on a search for more of Cornell's work, sampling tracks from the various bands he's been a part of (and his solo work). I have to admit, I was somewhat disappointed. Maybe my sampling was not wide enough, but the Chris Cornell I'd heard gettin' down with Daniel Craig's Bond was nowhere to be found.
Several years later, Cornell's name popped up again when I noticed Amazon's daily MP3 special on his second studio album since starting solo run number two. Skeptical at first, I sampled some of the tracks just out of curiosity. All I can is: WOW.
The more I listened, the more I liked what I was hearing. Looking back, I can definitely say that I would have paid full price for the album. There is not a single track that I don't like in this compilation, which is very rare for me. I wondered at the change in Cornell's style and if, perhaps, I needed to re-review some of his older work. However, after taking a look at some of the other reviews here on Amazon and at other music sites, I realized that Cornell had made a big departure from his normal style. There's no mistaking his unique voice, though. This album is gritty, clever, fresh, and really a testament to Cornell's talent.
100% recommended to old and new Cornell fans alike.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2017I love this album! It is a worm that will get inside your head for days. It is NOT for the heavy metal, grunge guitar fan of Soundgarden or Audioslave, but for the Chris Cornell vocal gift from God fan. As people have said before - the man could sing the phone book and I would buy it - THIS is that album. His vocal range was impeccable. I love all genres of music, even some hip hop/dance (although, not so much). But, of that genre, producer Timbaland ranks highly. That being said, Chris lends his own beautiful signature to dance/hip hop music. The tunes are addictive. Since he is no longer with us, I have been listening to a lot of Chris' music, and this album is, by far, one of my favorites. I can't really name a favorite song since they all blend together so well and must be listened to all at once. I can say, however, that the song Enemy is now incredibly heartbreaking to listen to (it is one of 2 songs Chris wrote for the album). Alas, he was the enemy inside. May he rest in peace.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2009Wow, that was different, huh?
I'm hugely admiring of Cornell as a singer, songwriter, and musician. He's done some fantastic things in his career and some not-so-fantastic things, but of his generation, he's certainly in the upper echelon.
So I felt equal measures trepidation and curiosity when I first heard about this project, as well as a good dose of confusion. An album with Timbaland - what the hell? I was aware of Timbaland's reputation as a producer and hitmaker, although that's not my genre of music, so I wasn't too familiar with his actual work. In fact, a lot of the stuff he's done in the past is stuff that I skip over when I'm changing stations, without listening to it, because I assumed (rightly or wrongly) that his genre of music wouldn't say anything to me. But what I *did* become very familiar with was the bitter, venomous reaction that the project was eliciting from some of Cornell's fans online - and to be honest, that made me even more interested in hearing the album.
So I bought it yesterday and have given it a couple of spins, and its not bad. Way different, absolutely, but not bad. Some of it I dig (I think "Long Gone" in particular is terrific), and some of it I don't care too much for. Obviously its a complete departure from the rest of the Cornell catalogue, which I realize makes a lot of people very uptight. The reaction of white male rocks fans to their heroes delving into areas they consider too black (R&B) and/or too gay (dance music) often betrays a lot of otherwise unexpressed racism and homophobia, and I think that shows in some of the the vicious response to this record. Reading some of these reviews, for example, you'd think this album was a crime that ranked somewhere between the cancellation of the original Star Trek and the crucifiction of Christ. Way over the top there, folks. As a wise man once said, its only a bloody record.
Cornell must have known that was in the offing, but he did it anyway, and I have to respect that. Its so easy for somebody of Cornell's stature and reputation to stay in his box, play it safe, and turn out the same album every couple of years for the rest of his life. Bands like KISS and AC/DC and Metallica have had long successful careers doing pretty much exactly that, and there's a loyal audience that comes back for the same thing year in and year out. And more power to those folks if it works for them. But for Cornell to so leap outside his comfort zone and to take such a risk, both artistically and commercially, well ... like I said, the man's got balls. Love or hate the album, you have to give him that. And as it will probably be a flop, you folks who hate it can always wait a couple of years for him to make the inevitable "return to form" record that will allow you to wag your fingers and say "I told you so" - easily the four most satisfying words in the English language.
Until then, "Scream" is the one work in Cornell's catalogue that will cause his fans to "make a little love, make a little war" because it is obviously not for everybody.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2020I had read the reviews of this album before buying it. Since I don't usually listen to electronic music much, I had decided to simply go into it with low expectations. I was wrong! Chris Cornell showed on this one that he was not at all afraid to experiment and to take his fans out of their comfort zone. Such a great voice (combined with his songwriting talent) can make any kind of music good. And the sound quality- if you have good speakers it will definitely make them bump hard if you turn the bass up! Be sure to keep listening after the last song is over- you'll be treated to a great little blues song that is way too short and will leave you wanting more. The one and only complaint I have concerns the album's photographs. I hate when anybody smashes guitars. I just hope they were cheap knockoffs that either didn't work right or sounded awful!

Don GallacherReviewed in the United Kingdom on December 21, 20205.0 out of 5 stars Preconceptions at door.
Didn't rate this when I first heard it, circa 2011. Knew Cornell had been in Soundgarden, but thought of them as mainstream rock, commercial stuff. Bit stuck in me own preconceptions, I'm afraid to say. 'Timbaland' I honestly thought was a brand of clothing! (footwear, to be precise). But there was f. all else in the Prison library, so I gave it a spin. Didn't know WHAT the heck to make of it. mostly sounded like the sorta crap you'd get on Radio One. Britney etc? However, I only had a crappy discman, and was spending all my time in the Yard, walking my strength out until lockdown every night. bit psychotic, drying out and suffering withdrawals. slowly the last half of it sorta resolved itself into recognizable 'rock'-ish tunes, and by circumstance, "Climbing Up the walls" kinda became my theme song.
When I returned it to the library, someone stole it, and I never heard it again 'til I was released, earlier this year. Heard Chris's Bond theme, which put me off him even more, and learned Timbaland is some big producer guy-y'know, the 'Bling over content' type. All I remembered was that this cd had been the soundtrack of my life,(sorry Swans!) for several months during probably the worst time I've ever lived through. So I wanted to know WHY.
Got a cheap copy here(Cheers, Amazon), and gave it a spin. STILL expecting a 'Rock' album, it left me baffled.
Spent a lot of time reading reviews here and elsewhere last night, and put it on again in the small hours, on my current headphones-GOOD ones.
The general reactions to it from other people had convinced me I'd been wrong about it, one way or another- so I just approached with a completely open mind. Last 8 -9 years I've been trying to be a bit less cliched in my listening; gotten into Jazz, Funk, Soul, even Pop-if it's GOOD 'pop'.
with no expectations, I found myself listening to a really great album of modern popular production work. With songs written by an actual musician-good combination! Even the effects on the vocals made sense in the context! Now I see why both Chris and Timbaland claimed to be proud of it.
It's NOT a rock album, people. It's POP album.
But a damn good one, by someone I find I can emphasize with- The way the album progresses without a break is deliberate; and my favourite songs are loaded towards the end- as they SHOULD be in that context!
And- having been clinically dead twice during my recovery time, I can remember now why "Climbing up the walls" spoke to me so strongly during that period. I'm outta prison- I don't wanna carry one inside me.
Give it a chance- as a 'pop' record, you'll find it actually ROCKS.

Cliente AmazonReviewed in Italy on July 17, 20175.0 out of 5 stars Diverso ma godibile
Spedizione veloce e prodotto perfetto.

M. F. PhanReviewed in France on July 13, 20095.0 out of 5 stars "Audacieux, un disque d'une rare intélligence, une création remarquable" !
