Product Description

Wesley’s (James McAvoy) life is over – his pathetic old one, anyway… Fortunately, it is all because of a girl. Enter sizzling-hot Fox (Angelina Jolie), who crashes into his life and introduces him to the Fraternity, a secret society of assassins, led by the enigmatic Sloan (Morgan Freeman). Seems Wes’s long-lost father was killed while working for the Fraternity and Wes has been selected to target the rogue member who murdered him. But before he can complete his assignment, Wes must first uncover the dark secrets behind the Fraternity in order to determine his own destiny.

As the impresario behind gravity-defying Russian blockbuster Night Watch, it's inevitable that Hollywood would come calling for Timur Bekmambetov. With a studio budget and an international cast, including two Oscar winners, Timur cooks up a Hong Kong-styled actioner bursting with fast cars and big guns. Our unlikely hero is mild-mannered Chicago accountant Wesley Gibson (Atonement's James McAvoy), whose father died when he was a tot. Wesley never learned to stand up for himself, and his girlfriend, boss, and best buddy all take advantage until the seductive Fox (Angelina Jolie) rescues him from a sharpshooter named Cross (The Pianist’s Thomas Kretschmann). After which, she whisks him away to a mansion on the edge of town to meet the other members of the Fraternity, where leader Sloan (Morgan Freeman) informs Wesley that Cross, a rogue agent, executed his father. Sloan believes Wesley has the goods to take him out, so he undergoes the Fraternity's brutal training regimen (Marc Warren and Common dish up some of the abuse). When he's ready, Sloan sends him out to fulfill his duty, but matters become complicated when Wesley finds out someone isn't telling the truth, leading our former milquetoast to exact an elaborate revenge. For those who've been following McAvoy's career to date, Wanted will surely come as a surprise. In adapting Mark Millar's comic series, Timur offers buckets of blood and a smidgen of depth, but fans of The Matrix and Mr. and Mrs. Smith will want to give this one a look. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

This is a great addition to any " Comic book based movie" collection. This action movie introduces the most unlikely hero to ever come out of a comic book! Full of action & plot twists you find yourself rooting for a Anti-hero who transforms from a man who has excepted a basically humiliating life mistaking his super powers for anxiety attacks & trudging day to day relying on socially excepted drugs to suppress his desire to change his life. Suddenly he finds himself hunted by a assassin, rescued by a mysterious beauty & forced to realize his true potential...not wanting to give out to many spoilers I will just say this is the point where the Rollercoaster ride goes' beyond stopping & the action becomes relentless! Danny Elfman is well known for his great movie scores from " Batman" to " A Nightmare before Christmas" & many more including this movie. What really blew my mind is the song " The Little Things" it was not just a good rock & roll song added in this movie but a song created & performed by Danny Elfman himself for this movie with the exception of the vocals. I think the song is good enough to have made the top 50 had it been released as a single. Instead it is only available by purchasing the soundtrack for " Wanted". D.C. really got the comic books turned to movies rolling in the late 70's with the " Superman" franchise & continued to dominate with the " Batman" franchise...now Marvel has taken the lead but with the revised " Darker Batman & Superman" movies along with " The Suicide Squad" it looks like D.C. is gaining speed again. But check out some of the great underground & smaller comic books turned into movies like " Wanted". There is a lot more fun escapist fantasy out there & it doesn't have to come from Marvel or D.C. !!!

This wonderful gem--based on a comic book of the same name--features Wesley Gibson, a mild-mannered accountant working at a big firm, who is stifled in every area of his life. Work, girlfriend, money--everything frustrates him...but he can't seem to muster up the courage to speak up for himself. Plus, he has to fight constant migraines, which he takes medication for and assumes are due to his frustrating life. But he's about to find out that there's a lot more to him than he ever could have imagined.

Featuring James McAvoy (who, prior to this was mostly known for playing Paul Bettany's brother in Wimbledon and Mr. Tumnus in the first Chronicles of Narnia), who is still far away from being Professor X at this point, this movie also has Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie in key roles (and even features a young Chris Pratt, as Wesley's office mate and cheating lover of Wesley's girlfriend).

Wesley is approached out of the blue by Fox (Jolie), who tells him that his headaches aren't migraines--that in fact, they're due to his heart beating more than 200 times per minute because he's the son of a specialized assassin. Wesley thinks she's nuts...until he gets caught in the middle of an insane firefight between Fox and a mysterious man who seems to be hunting him. Wesley is eventually introduced to The Fraternity, a league of assassins that Fox is a member of, and which is led by a man named Sloan (Freeman). He finds out that these unique people have all sorts of crazy skills that no one else has, and that using a Loom Of Fate, which produces cloth that somehow determines who Fate wants to be eliminated, they have been the agents who eliminate problems for 1,000 years.

This movie is really good. I think it's difficult to write reviews of movies because it's extremely subjective. This movie is for those of us who like action packed, unrealistic, escape reality for a moment-type of movies. The case also makes this movie awesome: Angelina, Morgan Freeman, and James McEvoy star in this movie. McEvoy starts out as this pushover with major issues, but has this destiny to be "something great". Jolie finds him and they train him to fulfill his destiny. There is a pretty great plot twist as well. This has an element of under-dod makes a huge comeback...it makes you wanna slap high-five and say, "hell yeah!". Good film. Definitely one that you will watch more than once.

I just watched this with a group. I never would have individually, because I thought it would be kind of a 2nd-rate chick-flick action movie wannabe. Boy, was I ever wrong! This is, quite possibly, my new favorite movie. The gunplay is shot using a bullet-time effect (if you like video games, think "Max Payne"), only in reverse-- so target-to-gun --that is spectacular to watch. It stars Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie, who are two of my favorite actors in their own right, and James McAvoy- who is apparently a huge star, and I know I've seen him before; I just can't place him in anything. In this though, he does a GREAT job as a kind-of "never-wanted-to-be" hero. Everyone does a great job. If you consider yourself an action-movie fan, you really owe it to yourself to see this. I'm glad I did.
