Turning off electronics on standby power is easy as turning off lights.
Going Green is Good for Your Wallet and the Environment
Standby power--also known as "phantom power"--is the energy that devices consume while they are still plugged into a power outlet, even while the device is turned off. This wasteful "phantom power" is generated by TVs, computers, computer accessories, battery chargers, and many other electronic devices.

Although the devices are not actually doing anything, they are still sipping energy. And not just minuscule amounts--the California Energy Commission estimates that as much as 15% of household electricity use can be attributed to standby power loss!

With the costs of energy high, both in dollars and environmental impact, it's in our best interests to conserve whenever possible. And with the Belkin Conserve Surge Protector, being green has never been easier, so now you have no excuse for wasting energy.

The Conserve Surge Protector features a remote control with a range of up to 60 feet and a convenient wall mount. By mounting the remote near your light switch, powering down the devices connected to your surge protector is as simple as turning off the lights as you leave the room. You can also detach the remote and keep it anywhere that's convenient, such as on a desktop or coffee table.

The remote also features adjustable channels, which means that you can control multiple Conserves in different rooms without interference. It also means you can control up to several surge protectors with a single remote to really maximize your energy savings. You'll be rewarded with both a lower utility bill and a smaller carbon footprint.

    Eight Versatile Surge-Protected Outlets
The Conserve offers a total of eight surge-protected outlets, six of which are "switchable" and two that are "always-on." This means that you can connect up to six devices that can be controlled by the remote, and two devices that will always stay on. The "always-on" outlets are useful for devices that require a constant flow of energy, such as routers, alarm clocks, cable modems, or DVRs.

    Smart Space-Saving Design
The Conserve Surge Protector features a slim design that saves space. The six switchable outlets are clearly separated from the two always-on outlets to prevent any mix up. A sliding safety cover on every outlet provides an additional measure of protection, and a cable management system keeps cords neat and organized. LED lights let you know when the surge protection is active and if there's a faulty ground.

Each of the outlets is surge protected to a maximum spike current of 72,000A. The Belkin Conserve Surge Protector is backed by a lifetime product warranty and a $100,000 connected equipment warranty.

i purchased this on december 2010 and by february 2011, the remote failed. the surge protector still works, so it's not completely useless but the product's best feature no longer works. i purchased the updated model (Conserve Switch F7C01008q Energy-Saving Surge with Remote) on february 2011 and the new one continues to work very well. i'm very disappointed with the quality of the first one but i really like the concept (obviously, or i wouldnt have purchased another).
overall, setup was fairly straightforward - six remote-controlled outlets and two outlets that are always on. i tried to be very gentle when hitting the switch on and off but still no luck in the end.
if the second one fails, i might still purchase another - i find these to be very convenient. i have my television, ps3, surround sound, cable box, logitech remote charger all hooked up to the remote-controlled outlets. whenever i walk out the room, the surge switch is located right under my room lights - awesome.
i'd wouldnt recommend this version but i highly recommend the updated version (Conserve Switch F7C01008q Energy-Saving Surge with Remote) and onward.

The media could not be loaded.
Studies suggest that 5% of America's power usage is consumed up by "phantom load", when devices that you turned off continue to consume at least some electricity. Turning power strips off cuts off "vampire" devices and prevents them from using electricity, but I tend to leave my power strips on because they're hidden under a desk or behind furniture or sometimes even in a different room.

That's where the Belkin Conserve power strip comes in, offering a convenient way to turn your power strips off with a remote switch that you can mount on top of your desk, near your TV couch, or by a light switch. You can even configure a single switch to power off multiple power strips, or just have each strip operate on its own frequency with its own switch.

I've been using my Conserve for about two months, and it's worked flawlessly the entire time. I even tested how well it shut the power to my devices off and, sure enough, my Kill A Watt instrument showed that power usage dropped to near 0 watts. What impressed me most about that number is how little power the Conserve apparently uses waiting for a signal from the switch.

In my case, I ran the numbers, and using my Belkin Conserve will more than pay for itself within the first year of use, and save me hundreds of dollars over my equipment's lifetime.

If you have a situation where you need a power strip in an out of the way place, then buy this product! It's only marginally more expensive than other power strips, and chances are that you'll make up the price difference within only a few months of use.

The Belkin Conserve is one of my biggest recommendations on Amazon.

Follow Up: FYI to those concerned about the remote battery, I've been using for about six months and the battery original battery still works! Also, as others noted, the battery is easy to find in stores and is as easily replaced as TV remote batteries are.

I've owned this power strip for around 5 months now. The power strip works great - no complaints there.

What I am concerned about is the remote control. Maybe I got a dud, but the mechanical construction of the remote control is pretty poor. It was easy for the remote to come apart at the seams. The rocker switch for the remote is also not a feat of engineering - it takes quite a bit of force to press the switch down, and even then you might not be pushing the actual transmitter switch.

The remote also takes a A23 battery (12V), which is provided in the packaging. For me, this battery lasted about 2 months before replacement. It was hard to tell when the battery needed to be replaced, though, because even though the switch wasn't working, the LEDs that light up when you press the switch still turn on. So I thought the remote's RF transmitter or controller broke before I figured out it was the battery.

Finally, sometimes you need to press the switch multiple times before the power strip picks up the signal.

Definitely not the easiest-to-use device and I might not recommend to a friend, but after figuring out the quirks of the remote I'm OK with mine.

I have a guest room that I rarely use but that is full of electronics that consume power even while on standby (most electronics nowadays never really go off). I saw a significant drop in my electricity usage in my next bill. I was so impressed I purchased another one and I'm looking for places to put more of them. By the way, you can set them on different channels so they work independently or on the same channel so no matter what control you it will cut the power to all selected appliances.

Bear in mind that the product only works with included RF remote. The RF provides excellent coverage even without a line of sight but I think than an optional remote infrared eye would greatly increase the usability and value of the product. This will allow users to program their remote control to turn the power on and off automatically as they use their appliances. This will result not only on greater convenience (I often forget to flick the switch on before attempting to use the tv remote) but also will result in greater energy savings (as you will use it always instead of just at night or before going to work). Despite my minor quibbles I highly recommend this product.

I purchased this product and it worked right out of the box. Worked fine when I initially hooked it up and fine before we went to bed. The next day the remote switch stopped working all together. It wouldn't turn the unit on or off. I checked batteries and everything. I must have just gotten a bad unit. It's disappointing because I can usually rely on Belkin for quality.
