I teach photography at college level and I hate to show movies to my students because some artists are annoyingly nonchalant with what they say. They pretend like their skills are God given or that they don't know what they're doing but it comes out fantastic. Or they have crazy artist statements that don't fit the work. Or even worse, they are so pompous that it is impossible to get what they are talking about for a student.
Annie Liebovitz is GREAT! She is a hard worker, she says it like it is and she has a wonderful aesthetic that please both the commercial and the conceptual/art photographers type. The movie is fast pace for a documentary which is good for a class and it is filled with celebrities which keeps students attention. Her work is pop enough that the students get it, but artistic enough so I don't feel like I am dumbing down the art portion of the class.

Ooooh, I do love stepping into the realm of sheer genius. I've loved Annie Liebovitz's work for as long as I can remember. A dream for me would be, to spend a day in the work and the life of genius, and bring my daughter along too; To be photographed by Annie Liebovitz, would be like having Michelangelo paint you. Look my fellow lovers of ART, you will absolutely love this DVD. And yes it's everything you'd imagine and more. YES, buy IT, buy it, buy it!

The best thing about this documentary was showing a lot of Annie Liebovitz's iconic photographic images, which was a treat. The parts focusing on her childhood background and family member interviews were interesting but this film did not shed light on her creative genius. Except for seeing her photographs, the film was boring and I wouldn't watch it again.

The movie is a wonderful portrayal of the life of one of the great artists in America. I am particularly interested in Leibovitz after seeing "Pilgrimage", a show of her recent, very personal work--mostly still life and landscape, rather than portraits, at the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, NM. Fabulous.

Shows how one can obtain great success, but miss the boat on happiness and fulfillment.

Her talents were used for glamor and in my humble opinion, Annie went in the wrong direction, leaving her with a sad life. It appears she wanted it all. She had three children through a surrogate mother/father. Had a lesbian lover that died of cancer, made lots and lots of money photographing wild and crazy stuff yet ended up financially in trouble. The financial troubles are not reported in this documentary, but Wikipedia gives that information. She is a driven person with great talent, but her life seems sad to me.

Annie is the best at what she does! She is one of the people who was "at the right place at the right time" and she did it right!!! I was sad when this video was over as I felt as though I got to re live the 1960-1970's piece of time that many wished they lived through. I was born just South of San Francisco in 1956 which was right behind the wave of change that my girlfriends older sisters rode. It was really "cool" to have lived and made it though that time in life. The music was real in ways that may never be again, the musicians were path makers and some made roads that will never be walked on again. Annie helps to show us this in this video.
Sit back and enjoy this time through Annie's lense, I did!

This is a DVD I will watch again. I first rented it from Netflex and then had to buy it. Annie is an artist with the lens and the photographs and the story of her life are so very well told. This is a must for any lover of photography and you will fall in love with Annie Liebovitz.
