Best value purchase I have made in my life.

Best value purchase I have made in my life.
I bought this on Amazon in 2009 for $41, this was when I was reeling from the housing crisis and underemployment. I was trying to start a mobile computer repair business and canned air was expensive and the reversible-flow vacuum I had to blow out cases was cumbersome to say the least. I mention this for two related reasons: First, because you should understand how expensive this purchase seemed to me then. 2009 was the first year in a decade I made less than $20k. Second, because this beast is currently listed for $113, which probably seems like a lot. I was surprised a bit myself. So, I can't say if it's worth you to you, but I will say that if this thing ever dies on me (before I do) I will gladly pay the asking price. For the money, this is far and away the best purchase I have ever made in my life. Seriously. By way of comparison, I still have my Stainless Seiko watch I bought 30 years ago -as unfashionable as it is now- it still looks and works perfectly, but that was $300. Anyway, about the vacuum, that is not a vacuum: I lost all the little accessories that came with it except for the restrictor/concentrator cone thing in my pictures. That thing blew off a few times in the beginning and I worried it would one day be sent at hyper-sonic velocity into a computer component. But once I jammed it down really hard after allowing a securing layer of grime to developed through my complete lack of maintenance, it stayed put. I had to take it apart maybe 7 years ago and tighten the nuts that hold the handle on (the handle had been slightly wobbly for a couple years at that point). Every now and then when I remember there's a filter on the bottom, I clean that. And that is it in terms of problems or maintenance. The significance of that can't really be appreciated without understanding how much I use this thing. I got out of the computer business (forever -I don't tell anyone I meet now that I know anything about them and I exclusively use laptops personally) so blowing out computer cases isn't on its resume anymore, but it gets used for everything else. I have a nice air compressor that I've had for a decade and it has literally never been used to blow anything out, just to power tools. I use this to clean my AC filters, other vacuum's filters, to blow stuff lodged into crevasses when cleaning. I am struggling to give examples that give scale to the uses I have found for it. It is incredibly powerful but is still gentle compared to, say, a pressure washer. I keep it in the most prominent spot in my workshop or in the cupboard under the sink in the RV when I'm on the road. My review seems like it's just going into the nearly infinite pile of other glowing 5 Star reviews, but I dumped on several products on Amazon recently and felt this could balance me karmically. Note though: if you do use this on small fans like those in a computer case, use your finger to lightly put pressure on the blades to keep them from spinning up too fast, it can tear up the shaft if you let it rip.

After hearing about this blower in passing on a computer forum, I finally thought I'd pick one up and give it a try after using canned compressed air since well, forever.

What shipped in was a product reminiscent of a vacuum, except for the fact that it doesn't suck up dust - it only blows it around. But when I say blows it around, I am certain it's far more powerful than any household full size vacuum I've ever tried!

The end goal for me purchasing this was to simply keep my computer dust-free. Since I rebuilt a system with many intake fans, it's only a few days / couple of weeks until dust is visible on the front grille housing and as everyone knows, a dusty computer looks bad and is bad for components, so I wanted to see what this little thing could do.

Let's just say that it blows enough air to charge the capacitors in my LED fans (normally ~1,500 RPM speed) and has them glow at almost 50% brightness just from the air movement alone. It's literally a few flicks of the wrist and the system is cleaned. What of course is behind and stubborn can be wiped away with a cloth and cleaning solution, but for all those vents, heatsink covers, and other hard to reach areas where access is hard or impossible by hand, this blower works great.

Tested it on a Kill-A-Watt and it pulls about 550 watts alone - almost as much as a space heater on low settings. It's NOT quiet but that's because it's simply that powerful. I imagine anyone owning a woodshop would find this very useful. It's just too bad that I've not had more uses for it so far. Quality is a solid steel canister with thick cables. It's heavy, solid, and well built and I expect it to easily last the 5 years+ that the motor is warranted for. For previously never being interested in needing to spend cash on a blower like this, Metro has certainly made me happy to own their product. A+.

I can't think of anything needing to be blown household-wise where this blower would have no effect. Other reviews are correct - if you have loose papers around this thing, expect them to find the nearest wall pronto as this blower will easily move them. It's not cheap, but you certainly (IMO) get what you pay for. Not used the little accessory tools aside from the one cone-shaped funnel for a little air focus and either with a tool or without, the DataVac works great.

This is a fantastic little air duster. I've been on the fence about getting one of these for the last few years and finally decided to get one as my last can of air ran out. I wish I would have gotten one sooner.

The device is a bit smaller than I expected, but don't let that fool you: this thing has more than enough power, even without any of the attachments, to clear dust out of darn near everything. I typically just use the attachment shown in use in all the listing images, but it comes with about a half dozen other various attachments that you could use if you desired. The one shown in all the pictures concentrates and directs the air very well for dusting PCs and keyboards.

The unit is a bit noisy while in operation, but trust me, you don't want to be doing this indoors anyway. After a solid 5 - 10 minutes of use, the unit does get warm to the touch, but I'm being a bit anal about how dust-free my computer is before I call it all clean. The instructions mention that after prolonged use the unit may get warm to the touch and say that this is completely normal and to simply allow the device to cool before using again.

As I said before, I wish I had bought this unit sooner. There are a few things that really make this thing worth the money. First, this unit was made in the USA. Second, do you know that feeling you have with a can of air where you think "Well, this component could be a bit cleaner, but this can is almost empty and I still have the rest of the computer to dust"? It's such a liberating feeling to not have to worry about that and to dust to your heart's content. Third is that I'll never have to pay $10 bucks for a two pack of canned air (really, canned chemicals that come out under high pressure) again, nor will their waste be consuming space in a landfill.

If you have the money, pick this gem up. You won't be disappointed.

      Hi Guys,

1st off I RARELY do reviews. Mainly because anything that needs to be said have already been said about most products and 2 I am lazy. So if I am getting off to do a review on a product I am really happy about it :).

So..1st off this please stop spending money on air duster cans! Stop now!

This is a fantastic product! If you're like me and have a gazillion electronics equipment this is a must have!! It works as intended the various plug-ins that came with this product will full-fill all of our needs. The blower is strong and powerful. The blower is so powerful it tends to vent from the sides (AS INTENDED), please don't be alarmed by it. I was able to clean my laptop, gaming system, behind tv, radio, desktop and various other equipments.

      Pro

      -Power blower!
      -Various plug-ins provided
-For ~$50 this is a steal seeing how air dusters cost around ~$4-$5 if not more, I do believe the price will increase on this product so grab it while you can.
-Replaceable foam underneath that can be replaced if the intake portion becomes dirty
-1 year warranty on the overall device (please register your product on their website)
      -5 year motor warranty!
      -MFG/QA date provided!
      -Long extension cord
      -Steel built
      -Small/portable
      -GREEN!

      Cons

-LOUD! Yes it is very loud.
-Runs warm at times (not hot...warm)

      Final Word

One of the biggest small detail that made me happy was that a QA/MFG sticker was provided and I was delighted to see that mine had a sticker of Dec 2013. Which means that it's not a product that has been sitting in the warehouse for months then it got shipped. I am really satisfied with this product and if this lasts me even for only 1 year it would already pay itself off seeing how much I used to spend on duster cans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dust is the disease; MetrovAC Electric Duster is the cure
Reviewed in Canada on February 4, 2016
If you've ever tried to clean out your PC using compressed air canisters, you know how expensive they can be, and how annoying to use. Whether it's holding them perfectly upright so you don't get any liquid coming out, or losing the straw and not being able to reach the crevices you need to clean, they always seem to cause problems. This electric duster, while expensive for a one time purchase, will quickly reveal itself to be a money-saving and extremely useful device to have around the house, particularly if you have a decent computer that you want to treat properly.

Here is a breakdown of the pros and few cons of the MetrovAC 500 Watt Electric Duster:

      Pros
      - Powerful and effective: This device has a strong little motor that blows a lot of clean, dry air with a surprising amount of force. Compared to a compressed air canister, which starts out strong and then weakens as you use it, the Electric Duster is an air moving powerhouse that doesn't let up. Just point it at the dust and crumbs you want to eliminate, turn it on, and watch them fly. It takes about 20 seconds to thoroughly clean out the interior of a dusty computer tower, compared to the couple of minutes it sometimes takes with canned air.
      - Multiple uses: In addition to cleaning out my computer, I've also found it to be useful for cleaning the air filters in my car and the air purifier I have in my home, greatly extending the life of filters that cost quite a lot of money to replace. Any other sort of gizmo or household object that collects dust but is difficult to clean is also fair game for the duster. For example, I've used it to clean camera components, window screens, the interior of my subwoofer, the handle frames of my folding knives, and blowing dust off a fake Christmas tree that was stored under the stairs.
      - Useful attachments: The Duster comes with several attachments that can be useful depending on your task at hand. For me, I've found that the nozzle that narrows to the tip is perfectly adequate for most jobs, though the crevice tool and small cleaning heads are good for cleaning out my mechanical keyboard.
      - Ergonomics and design: Although it may not be the coolest looking device on the market, its design is simple and effective. The handle is large and firm, giving you excellent control over where the duster is pointed. It also has a very long cord, about 10 feet by my estimate, which is long enough to reach many outlets but not too long that it becomes cumbersome when using or storing. The base of the unit also has 3 solid plastic feet which keep it upright and level on flat surfaces, as well as providing airflow into the bottom of the unit through the air filter. When you set the duster down, you know it will stay there.

      Cons and caveats
      - Hot hot heat: Okay, this shouldn't be surprising, based on the power this duster has, but the unit itself gets quite hot after prolonged use. Admittedly, most jobs shouldn't take that long, but if you've got a particularly tough dusting job, you'll need to be careful not to touch the metal sides of the duster. Thankfully, the handle is large enough that it shouldn't be a problem, and you won't get serious burns even if you do touch the metal, but you should still be cautious, and definitely don't let children use it as a toy.
      - Ow, my freaking ears: Speaking of this duster's power, it's motor gets surprisingly loud. Using it in a small indoor area for a significant length of time is not recommended unless you have earplugs or are like my dad and don't care about your hearing. It's not quite as bad as standing beside a central vacuum unit on full blast, but because you're generally holding it closer to your head you need to be careful. Using it outside is not quite as much of a concern. Which brings me to my final point.
      - USE IT OUTSIDE: Okay, this bad boy gets the job done, but unless you want to spend more time cleaning up the dirt you've blown out, you need to use this outside on a deck or porch, or in a workshop that it is already dirty. It may take a little extra work tracking down an extension cord or lugging your massive gaming PC onto the deck, but you really need to do so in order to fully utilize the power of this device. Because it is so powerful, you also need to be careful with delicate components, so always hold it far away at first and bring it closer if required. You properly won't blast components off your motherboard, but use good judgment when dealing with expensive or fragile devices. In a perfect world, the duster would have two settings, one high and one low for more delicate jobs, but as it is you should have no trouble adjusting distance and power as needed.

Ultimately, I feel that these few concerns are easily outweighed by the positive aspects of the Electric Duster. Whether you're looking to clean out your brand new PC or blast the dust out of every crevice and cranny in your home, car, or office, the MetrovAC 500 watt Electric Duster will get the job done. Just remember to handle it with care, and protect your ears, and you'll be good to go.

More effective than I had expected; great for CPU fans and keyboards providing you use it outside due to the amount of dust etc that enters the atmosphere. It scores over an aerosol based air duster in many ways not least of which there is no risk of liquid coming out of the nozzle.

It does get warm in operation, but I have never needed to use it for more than 30sec at a go. Beware the starting torque of the 500W motor can result in you dropping it if you are not gripping the handle tightly.

A bit pricey, but then again a good quality canned air duster can set you back £15 and not last very long.
