When two devices are simultaneously connected, this PCIe FireWire adapter reduces performance bottlenecks by offering support for data transfer rates up to 400Mbps to each port. The FireWire card employs dual-bus architecture to provide the maximum bandwidth to each individually connected device, rather than sharing the bandwidth across multiple ports.

Bought the SYBA PCI-E 1394A Firewire Card for my mother-in-law after buying her a new Lenovo i3 PC after her old one died. Opened up the case and found a open pci-e slot, all of them seeing everything is on the motherboard. Also installed 8GB of memory at the same time. Card has a very low profile and does not stick up to high. There are two ports out the back and one internal hook up for front port. Pretty simple install remove a screw that holds a plate in the back of the PC. Put firewire card into pci-e slot and put screw back to hold card down. Doesn't get much easier. Turn on the PC and when it booted in to Windows 8. The OS pick up the firewire card and installed the drivers needed and it was done. I didn't use the internal hook up because she did not have a front port. After rebooting the PC just to make sure everything was working right. I plug in the Sony DV camcorder and Windows 8 found the camcorder and she was able to watch what she recorder. Now she has some five years of video to go though and edit seeing no other PC she owned didn't have firewire either. I don't know why she bought a firewire camcorder when she didn't have anyway to get it to her PC to edit it. I think the salesman at the store talked her into it.

This card works fine, Im using it for an audio interface recording software with windows 7 ultimate 32 bit and the card installed automatically no problems except for the audio glitch I have where the audio is totally disabled after the computer is woken up from "Sleep" mode. Im sure it is just an adjustment that needs to be made on my end. All in all NOT a bad pci express card.

I replaced my computer and my sony dcr 350 wasn't compatible with window 7 when using usb.
I was told to try firewire ilink but didn't want to spend too much as I wasn't sure it would work. This card was pretty cheap. It was easy to install and windows7 regognized it with no problems. Hooked up my camera and windows found it and installed the drivers. I am now able to transfer my videos to my new computer.

We recently bought a new computer and had to get a new firewire card, since the card in the old computer was not compatible.

This was priced very reasonably on Amazon and arrived quickly after we ordered it. It took me all of 15 minutes to open the computer and install the card. A screwdriver and the removal of a couple of screws to slide off the computer's case and the slot door was all I needed to do.

While I've only used it once, it was for downloading an hour-long home movie. Absolutely no problems with the download and the movie looks great on the computer. We have the 64-bit version of Windows 7 and there have been no problems with the card.

If you need something like this, I would recommend it.

I am doing home recording using a Windows 7 64-bit system with Cakewalk Sonar Producer X2 (a $499 package). I read in user forums that many audio interfaces give problems unless your firewire (1394) interface uses a TI (Texas Instruments) chip.

When I was browsing through 1394 cards on Amazon, and came across this one, there was a Q&A section below the listing where someone asked if the card had a TI chip- and the answer was "Yes"- so I ordered it. I ended up spending 8 hours or more trying to get it to work with my setup, and testing out my mixer on an old XP system with a different 1394 interface (on the motherboard) to see if the problem was with the mixer. It was not!

This card does NOT use a TI chip. You have to click the plus sign in the Q&A section to burrow deeper, and then see that a subsequent post said that the card does NOT use a TI chip. (I had missed this). I e-mailed Alesis support explaining my issue, and they recommended trying a card with a TI chip. I ordered a Belkin F5U504 card from Amazon in desperation. It arrived today. Everything is now working perfectly! The card was around $50- but worth every penny in lack of aggravation. Now I can get back to recording..

Plug and Play with Windows 7.

The header that is supposed to work with my existing front panel Firewire cable had the wrong pin missing from the pinout.

Initially stymied, I did some research on the net and found that the pin that was cut was the secondary ground and not essential for operation. I cut the pin next to it so my plug would fit on the header and everything functions properly.

Cross your fingers that the card you get has the proper header pin missing.

I am running Windows 7 (64Bit). My new motherboard does not have IEEE 1394 ports, so I needed to add them, plus the header to connect to the connector on the front of my case. Installation consisted of removing the side cover, removing the dummy cover on the card slot I wanted to use, connecting the cable from the case to the header, and reinstalling the side cover. I powered up the computer. After Windows started, a message popped up on my task bar saying Windows was installing drivers. A few seconds later the message informed me the drivers had been installed successfully and my hardware was ready to use. I plugged my scanner into each available port and did a scan. Everything worked fine! What could be easier than that?

And i thought it worked just fine. I have several Firewire devices. My Sony HVR-HD1000N hooks up via iLink and I use a Weibetech UltraDock forensic field kit in my professional work. Additionally, I have a 4-bay SAS bay that connects via Firewire. The Weibetech locks in without an issue. The drive bay is fully plug and play.

The Sony was a different issue. Windows sees the camera when it's hooked up to this card, but not all software sees it. (See my review about Camtasia Studio). With Camtasia, the camera could not be recognized at all. At the urging of Camtasia's support staff, I pulled this card and put in a Belkin. The problems with the camera being recognized went away. In my conversations with Belkin's support staff, they suggested that it was a chipset compatibility issue. In any case, swapping the card fixed the issue. This is a nice cheap card if you are just using it for storage devices. However, tread cautiously if using it to hook up video cameras.
