The memory module was easy to install; it took no more than 5 minutes, but probably less. I installed it before turning on the computer for the first time, and when I booted it up, it recognized the memory immediately.
I've been using the netbook every day for several weeks now, and having the extra memory makes it a really great little computer, and very inexpensive.
Be careful to make sure your computer's memory is upgradeable, and that this is the correct memory module for it. On the specifications for the computer, you should see the amount of memory installed and the maximum possible.
One thing that would be very useful, but that would be difficult to keep up to date, would be to have a on the Amazon web page a list of the computers that the memory module could be used for. The Crucial Technology company has a procedure for finding the correct module for your computer, but none of the ones it suggested for mine were available from Amazon, and I wanted to order from Amazon. Amazon suggested this module for my computer. I compared the specs of the two modules suggested by Crucial Technology and this one suggested by Amazon, and they seemed to be pretty much the same. So I ordered this hoping it would work, and it did.
what you may not know is that most computers run 32bit versions of windows. Why is this important to know? Well 32bit versions only see about 3.5gb's of memory! So even if you add 8gb's only 3.5 will be usable! So take a few seconds to check your system out prior to purchasing.
Another good reason to scan your system with that tool from crucial is, your computer may have 1gb installed already and you want to up it to 2gb's so you purchase the extra stick only to find out you only have 2 slots and they are both full because the company put 2 512mb sticks to make up the 1gb supplied with the computer! Not a big deal but better to know in advance as adding memory on some computers is a major pain in the butt! Like netbooks that require you to pry off the keyboard and more to get to the memory! So check before you order, memory is extremely cheap these days and it makes such a difference that it would be foolish not to max out the memory!
Hopefully I was able to help someone!
I own the D257 and installing the ram was easy once you get the back off the net book. However I will warn anyone that's going too do this on this particular net book (Acer Aspire One D257) when unlocking the keyboard and prying it out you will want to lift it out with the edge of the front keys DON'T DO IT you will end up breaking the key's off. Instead use small screwdriver or credit card and stay away from the keys. Keyboard has to be removed in order to get to the back cover retaining screw's. Same goes for the back cover take your time and use credit card to carefully pry it off. The upgrade was flawless after reboot the new ram was recognized by win7.
At the Crucial Technology web site compatible memory is listed for 1015PN. Crucial CT25664BC1067 2GB 204-PIN PC3-8500 SODIMM DDR3 Memory Module is not on the list.
PC works fine with installed memory. Replaced install memory with Crucial CT25664BC1067 PC does not boot. Reinstalled original memory PC boots.
Why Amazon advertises compatibility is a mystery.
I bought this module on advise from Amazon ie:.. buy netbook-module-carry case. Module came, I installed it and blank screen. Logged onto Crucial dot com and found this module is used for desktops and some laptops.
The correct module is CT25664BC1067.8FD 2gig for the Asus 1015pn NETbook, After reading the reviews after a blank screen I seen I'm not the only one who bought the wrong one. This is the wrong memory card for the ASUS 1015PN. After installation, the computer would not boot up at all.
I'm now in the process of returning the card.
DO NOT purchase this module if you own an ASUS 1015pn as this is not compatible, nor is it listed as such on crucial's own site! Amazon really is screwed up if they recommend this module for that particular netbook. Crucial lists part number CT1539081 as compatible the recommended module from crucial.ASUS 1015pn w/BIOS update and no dice. Do yourself a favor and check the Crucial website to get the right part and guess what, per Crucial THIS AINT IT!
ASUS Eee PC 1015PN also is not compatible with the memory card I am told by Crucial, Crucial CT25664BC1067 2GB 204-PIN PC3-8500 SODIMM DDR3 Memory Module, despite the Amazon advertisement. Amazon ordered me a replacement for free of charge today so I will see what the replacement does if it works or not despite all the reviews from others maybe the next one will work. Hopefully it does if not I will be returning this product for refund. And will post a new review or update this one once it comes in.

It works perfectly and makes the netbook that bit quicker - more than enough to make the purchase worthwhile.
On a lot of netbooks 2GB is the maximum RAM they can address. Also there is normally only one RAM slot so if you want 2GB of RAM you need to buy a 2GB stick of RAM like this one. Obviously check what RAM spec you have / can use before buying! (Crucial themselves do a bit of free software for this)
