Bought this for my then almost 3 year old for Christmas. It's been a year and a half almost and my three boys still play with it. The wings all snap on - so they can easily snap off as well... and they do... constantly. Any given day I will see one of the 6 wing pieces somewhere in our house. We've tried to keep them all in one place so daddy can fix it for them but that only last so long. So now it is mostly played with without any wing pieces and they're happy. Same with the missles. They actually shoot and my boys happily shot each other in the face which I would hear about from the crying boy who got shot. Still, it has cool sounds and lights and if they're still playing with it after all this time then it was well worth the money. Good jet - hours and hours of fun. =-)

I bought 2 of these, one for each of my twin boys (6) and they love it. What my wife and I love is the handle that drops down to fly the plane. I never had the original version, but I had lots and lots of G.I.Joe's. I agree with my boys, this is a really cool toy. Fun to play with, awesome design. Only question I have, how many missles does it come with? Each missle launcher has room for 6, but each toy only came with 10 missles, enough for 5 on each side. Not a huge deal, but something I am curious about.

All in all, out of the new line of toys, this is the one that I like the best, but importantly my kids love it.

Note: After writing this review, I learned that 4 missles were shot and lost in their room. So both came with all the missles.

A very impressive toy plane

OK, in real life I'm a practical pacifist (make peace if you can, fight to win if you must) and religiously I look forward to a day when "neither shall they learn war anymore". Also, I don't collect toys or action figures for their own sake, but to give me ideas for my own speculative fiction writing. But the kid in me still wishes there was something like this when I was growing up. This is a most impressive warbird, not connected with any real-life air force, yet reflecting what is now possible to a large extent (e.g., stealth technology). Its durability factor is affected only by the fact that its tail fins have to be inserted and (if treated roughly) just might be broken off irreparably.

The Night Raven is designed to be used in various ways, including as a gun complete with trigger for the 12 air-to-air missiles in its huge turrets. Two missiles are fired with each pull of the trigger, and they can be fired in rapid succession. I haven't tried out the battery-powered features (sounds and lights), because again I'm not playing with the toy for its own sake. Since everything else about this toy overall is well-designed IMO, I trust that the battery-powered features are also. The plane comes complete with a very flexible fighter, who can board his mighty stealth fighter via a hatch that opens below the cockpit. The landing gear is solid too, but bear in mind that its wheels don't roll!

Overall this is a great toy for a great value. The plane is huge, the figure is articulate and detailed, and the plastic is high quality. BUT...

Right out of the box you'll notice that it comes with 12 grey missiles, exactly enough missile that the plane fires, no extras. You're kid is going to lose a few of them a day, so not giving you about 6 extra is not fair. And they're grey, which means they are virtually invisible when they hit the ground. Most missiles like this are bright orange so they are easier to find. Grey missiles and in extras is a bad combo.

That said, my son loves this toy!

I've been very reluctant about the ROC Toyline, Hasbro got a big hit with the 1982-1986 ARAH with the Military based vehicles, Skystriker, USS Flagg, Rattler, Dragonfly and the magnificent 1986 Night Raven before they made the wrong turn with the galactic space adventure theme. The first thing I did when I received this new version of the Raven was to place it next to the original, well, you get what you paid for, is kind of a Nerf Gun in a plane shape, the electric sounds do not save this toy from being a piece of junk, the body comes apart in the middle in order to "reload" the gun, Hasbro must make his mind, sell a plane or a gun but not combine them, it's horrible. Do yourself a favor and save some bucks and go get the original Raven on ebay.
