- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2020For the price this is unbelievably functional! Makes very quick work of jobs that would have taken a LOT longer with solder braid. Very easy to clean up and prep for the next job too.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2012The unit was shipped quickly and looks well made. The soldering tip however was not plated and solder would not stick to it. I tried tinning it with no luck doing so. Without being tinned the tip has a tough time heating the solder joint up to be desoldered. Contacted the supplier and found out the tip is not to be tinned and you are to apply flux to the circuit board prior to using the desoldering tool. A tinnable tip is not offered by Aoyue for this unit. I checked the Hikko similar units and found that they have tips that are tinned. Since tinnable tips were not offered for this unit I fabricated one from copper and stainless steel. Since fitting my Aoyue 474A+ with a copper tip it works great and allows me to have the tip already loaded with solder making for quick desoldering without having to hold the tip on a circuit board long time overheating both board and part. It is easy to clean the solder out and keep working.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2012This desoldering station is freaking amazing. I'm use to using a soldering iron with a solder sucker and wick. Sometimes that works just fine and other times it just doesn't work well at all. This desoldering gun is simple to use and easy to clean and makes quick work of removing through-hole components. What else can I say, if you repair and work on electronics, you own it to yourself to own this tool. It makes life so much simpler!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2014I've had it for a month or two now, and it's done just fine. Good suction, good speed to temp, good temp maintenance. It's not as slick in appearance as the ones that cost 4x as much or more, and I can't attest that it works as well; I've only used this one and one at a work site many years ago. This one works at least as well as the one that I worked with before.
I don't see what I would like in a desoldering tool on any of the ones I've looked at: a truly sleek tip and overall as maneuverable as the manual solder suckers.
Given that I'm perfectly happy with its performance, and elated at the better pricing, I gave it a full five.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2011This is a chinese copy of a Hakko 474 desolder station. While I haven't used one of the Japanese originals of this station I have used other Hakko irons and by comparison the Aoyue seems to be made from far cheaper materials. Is that a problem? It really depends on what you plan to use it for. Someone running a repair business or a rework line in a factory is probably best off buying a station from Hakko because the equipment will be worked hard and downtime is money. For the electronics amateur though this station is a bargain. Component removal jobs that took 10 minutes with a pencil iron and desolder wick can be done in seconds with the 474 with less risk of damaging pads or adjacent components.
[...] use original Hakko filters. The Aoyue is so close that the filters made for the original Hakko station fit and the Hakko filters are orders of magnitude better than the Chinese made ones. The parts you need are Hakko part A1033 (large Ceramic paper filter), A1009 (small ceramic filter) and A1030 (spring filter.)
So far I am very happy that the Aoyue will do what I need. Time will tell how long it lasts.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2011This does a good job, and it's what you would expect for the price range. The only problem is that the construction of the gun itself and its filter is a little cheap feeling. You shouldn't do much desoldering in between cleanings of the filter spring inside the gun as well. In all though, a good tool for the money.
