Big things do some in small packages!
My wife mentioned that she wanted a dock or something that could increase the volume/quality of the music she plays on her Galaxy S3 at work and around the house, and I came across this and decided I'd give it a try. I can't say enough good things about this little guy! The sound output for something so small is simply amazing and the battery life is outstanding. I bought this for her for Christmas, and she's used it quite a bit at work and I know I've put several hours on it while cooking dinner in the evenings, and we've yet to charge it once! The packaging states a 12 hour battery life, and I imagine it may be even longer than that (I haven't actually counted the hours we've put on it so far, but we've used it quite often over the last 4 weeks). Everything about this speaker screams high quality. The build quality feels strong, and the way you twist to lock it into a ball for storage and transportation feels very durable as well. It comes with a nice little pouch you can store it in while not in use. I think this unit will hold up well as long as you take care to secure it (compress and lock) when you're done using it. The 3.5mm jack stores nicely into the underside of the unit, making it nice and compact for transportation between work, school, home, etc. Although we don't have a second (or third or fourth), this has a port that you can hook up multiple X-mini II's in a daisy chain fashion for "jaw-dropping stereo sound". I'd be interested to see this kind of setup and what kind of increase in sound/quality you'd get. As for the sound from a single unit, I tested my phone on it's own at about 3/4 volume, which sounded like my speakers were going to explode and the mid and high tones were more piercing than anything. I then connected the X-mini II, with my phone volume at half and slowly increased the volume on the unit until I reached max volume. The difference was night and day. The bass was rich and the mid and high tones were smooth as butter. This unit on it's own was "jaw-dropping" enough to me. It's been close to a month now and I've had zero issues with mine, so I'm anticipating we'll be using this thing for a nice long time. I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable speaker unit to increase your phone/mp3 player volume and quality.

When this was delivered, my girlfriend was over so we opened it because she was curious to see what it sounded like compared to the $10 Bluetooth one of a similar design that she has had for a few months. Besides not being a Bluetooth speaker, this X-Mini II blew hers out of the water in every way.

Immediately, we were both impressed by the power of the bass. It really does thump and vibrate especially if you have it sitting on a solid surface. If you lightly put your fingertips on the top of the speaker, you can also feel how powerful it is.

In my case, I usually sit it on my laptop while I'm watching movies because most of you know how terrible most laptop speakers are. I can't hear the stock speakers on my laptop if there is any type of background noise such as the air conditioner or a box fan. I was getting tired of wearing headphones to watch movies online. This speaker is perfect for my laptop. Just one of these little speakers solves that problem. Also use it with my phone and with my Kindle Fire.

My thoughts:

Solid build of good quality, thick plastic.
Rechargeable--light on bottom turns blue when fully charged, red when needs charged.
You can still use this speaker even while it's charging which is great.
Opens to about 2/3 the size of a can of pop/soda.
After you shut and lock it, it's about the size of a plum.
Locks by lightly twisting the top and bottom together.
Could easily be carried in a pocket, purse, or bookbag.
Comes with a little black carrying bag with a drawstring that is cheaply made but still nice that it was included and it helps prevent scratches.
USB charging chord included
Audio input part that you plug into phone/device tucks into the bottom of the speaker when storing it.

I was so happy with the one I had, I bought five more because you can link them together for a louder sound. I didn't want a large system, even a Bluetooth one, because it would be inconvenient to carry around with me in my car or in my briefcase and bookbag. With these little ones, I can easily take them all at once or just one.

When hanging out with friends, we can pass them around, attach them to our cells, and share all the new songs we have. These are just really fun. I would play a song, then friends would play songs on their phones, too, with their speakers, basically just going one by one around the room.

So, yeah, I recommend this speaker. I'm buying more as gifts for friends and one for my girlfriend. My only complaint is that I wish the cord was longer--the part that sticks into the audio jack is only a couple inches long. Maybe a retractable cord would work? Also, I wish the carry bag was better quality so that it will last as long as the speaker itself. I would recommend the speaker company to make some type of storage dock for if you buy multiples so that you can store them all together.

Overall, very happy with the speaker and I mostly just have recommendations to make it better and nothing to complain about. These are just fun!

Battery Life: Excellent. Used this on a camping trip, volume at about half to 3/4 of full volume for about 5-7 hours per day for 2 days and it didn't deplete.

Volume: Very good. For it's size, it is excellent. It will get pretty loud without noticeable distortion. I'm currently using it in a 200 sq. ft. room with my nephew playing video games, and it is able to fill the room with music quite nicely. It probably won't be so effective at a loud party. This will beat out your laptop speaker, by far. Attached to your mobile phone, it works excellent as a speakerphone.

Sound Quality: Good. For what it is, the sound exceeds expectations. With the chamber expanded, the sound is not exceptionally accurate, though there is definitely more bass, which is not present with the chamber collapsed. For audiobooks, having the chamber collapsed will produce more accurate sound in the vocal range. Listening to Pimsleur language CDs, I found the voices to be more crisp, less boomy, and easier to discern with the chamber collapsed.

Portability: Excellent. The X-Mini II is about the size of a racquet ball. The audio wire coils up into the unit (although the wire is very short).

Final Notes: I have used this around the house, at the beach, while camping, in a car, as a speakerphone (connected to my phone and with Skype), and generally, everywhere. I have traveled with it, and will be taking it with me to Brazil in a couple of weeks. It has exceeded expectations for a product this small and in it's price range. Falling on the right side of $30, this is one of the best values you can get.

Does the X-Mini II sound as good as your surround sound home stereo? Not even close. Does it sound as good as the subwoofer system you have hooked up to your desktop computer? Of course not. What this little gem *does* deliver is impressive sound in a very portable package. It's great for your MP3 player, cell phone, or netbook/laptop, and generates enough sound to fill a small room. Placing the speaker on different surfaces will change the sound quality, so experiment with the placement for best results. Overall, the sound this little thing can generate is remarkable and surprising.

Despite its superb capability, the X-Mini II is not perfect. For starters, it's very small and light, so bass-heavy songs will cause the entire speaker to rattle or bounce around on hard surfaces. It also has a VERY short cord, so it has to be placed right next to the audio source. This can create problems. For example, if you wanted to connect it to a standard tower-style desktop computer, it would dangle a few inches under the headphone jack--not a good arrangement. I also didn't like the fact that it has relatively large open areas on the top. Even if you keep it in its carrying pouch, pieces of crud can collect on the speaker cone and be hard to remove. A screen or something there would have been nice.

Overall, I consider this speaker to be well worth the price. It's an impressive gadget; so impressive, mine got stolen less than a week after I got it. (Yeah, be careful. It's easy to lose small portable things.) However, I liked it enough to buy another one almost immediately, and that's rare.

I bought one at Futureshop in 2012. It recently broke (my fault) and I could not find another one anywhere. Futureshop doesn't have them anymore. I bought other things sort of like this in stores but I am not happy with any of them. Even my Finally I ordered this one and now I have it and I am HAPPY again. My last one was purple and I whined about missing my little purple ball. But now I have a new green ball. It charges from any mini USB, it does not need to use the one that came with it. It's not bluetooth, but I have a few bluetooth little speakers and all they have done is mess up my computer. This one is straight audio. I can use it on my laptop, my various mp3 players, TV, and the sound is great. And it works while charging, by computer or by wall.
