I have wanted a frozen concoction maker since they first appeared in SkyMall. I finally bit-the-bullet and bought one for my husband's birthday..haha. I actually found a refurbished cordless concoction maker. IT IS FABULOUS!!! I cannot say one bad thing about it yet. We plan on taking it everywhere this summer. The battery works great, it is super easy to clean, the shaved ice is wonderful. The kids are even enjoying it for frozen drinks. My first batch was a little icy, but the second batch I just manually blended it for a minute after the cycle was complete, and it produced a perfectly smooth beverage. Seriously... worth the money- If you are planning on using it only at home, just grab one with a cord. The cordless does not give you the option to plug in~ battery only.

I bought this machine to make non-alcoholic versions of daiquiris and margaritias and discovred that this is one heck of a slush maker as well! The consistency of the drinks that this machine makes is like a frozen coke consistency and the machine works very quickly and easily. The machine is also very easy to clean after use. I am able to get three full batches of drinks from one batch of ice from my refrigerator's automatic ice maker. The automatic feature shaves ice and blends perfectly. This is the third "smoothie" type machine that I have had and the only one that works like it is supposed to. The battery charges well and so far I have made 15 batches of drinks without a recharge.

This will definitely be nice on hot summer nights on the deck!

I would never buy something like this for myself. I made the purchase for a friend who is not too computer savvy and does not have a credit card to buy stuff online. He paid me cash and I used my credit card.
The battery will not last a year. We got him a new battery, but then the whole unit bit the dust not too long after the warranty ran out. It is designed so that it is impossible to take apart and fix yourself.

I took my battery operated Margaritaville machine to the beach in Destin, Florida this summer. I also use it on my pontoon boat when electricity is not available. While I love the portability the battery operated machine, you definitely need at least two batteries if you plan on making more than 2 or 3 batches. I find the battery life to be very poor which forced me to buy a backup. Also, additional batteries are EXTREMELY overpriced. It cost me around $100 to get a backup battery - that's crazy, but I didn't reel I had much of a choice. Lastly, it would be wonderful to have the option to plug it in when electricity is available. I hate the fact that I have to charge batteries at home or I my camper to make a drink. The idea behind the machine is great, but there is a lot of room for improvement considering the price I paid. I like mine in certain situations, but I'd have a hard time recommending to others.

We've had our Margaritaville Explorer since our bridal shower in 2011. It was AMAZING! Best gift ever. We used it all summer and even took it to the Outer Banks for our family vacation and out on the beach with us while we were there. After about a year of using it fairly frequently our battery just stopped holding a charge. We couldn't even get through one drink cycle.

So I bought a new battery from Jarden (Margaritaville's parent company) and that wasn't cheap. After over $100 including tax and shipping, our battery arrived. After 3 months of having it and 2 full days of use, it wouldn't hold a charge for a full drink cycle. It worked as it should for ONE charge cycle and then never again.

I emailed Jarden and they sent me a new battery. It arrived towards the end of summer, so we used it once or twice and then recently pulled it out one night when I made Mexican food and wanted Margaritas with dinner. The battery wouldn't work even through one full drink cycle. Is this the wrong battery!? Nope. None of the three would work, even though they all showed a full charge on the charger. We've done EVERYTHING they tell you to do to take care of the batteries. We don't store it in the machine, we don't store it in the charger, don't leave it on the charger after it's charged fully, etc.

I contacted them about the issue and said that it was unacceptable that we've now paid close to $500 for something that doesn't work, especially since there's no way to use it without a battery. What was their response? "Sorry, you're out of warranty."

Absolutely unacceptable. We absolutely loved this product and would have continued to rave about it and the company if they had actually stood by their product and realized that the problem was not with us. I can't recommend this to anyone.
