About Dremel: A History of Brilliance and Innovation
Founded in 1932 in Racine, Wisconsin, Dremel is the industry's rotary tool leader. The company owes its success to the inventive genius of its founder and namesake, Albert J. Dremel. In his lifetime, Mr. Dremel owned 55 patents on a wide range of products--from electric erasers to a gas-powered rotary lawn mower. His most famous and important invention was a high-speed rotary tool, dubbed the Dremel Moto-Tool. I bought this Dremel tool for precise work: I used my other Dremel a lot for wood carving and although it still performs well after so much abuse, the shaft is probably slightly bent and this made it not suitable for the very fine drilling required by vias in my home PCB prototype production.
I already had the drilling column and I figured out that I should just buy another Dremel for it. This model is just fine, even overkill for the work it is destined to do. It feels as sturdy as my 395 and although I will not abuse it as much to preserve it for its special purpose, I would not hesitate recommanding it for the same tasks I perform with my older one.
As for my vias drilling issue, it delivers: I get perfect holes with a 1/32" bit.
The toolset it comes with is pretty complete although I would have welcome a keyless chuck in the package. This would have earned it my fifth star.

Picked it up because I didn't want a low powered model, or to mess with batteries for something I use very infrequently, and many of the ones intended for the task specifically seem designed around smaller dogs. Plus I wanted a decent Dremmel tool for myself :-)

It is variable speed and using the lowest speed it is not terribly loud and does not annoy our 7 month German Shepherd unduly.

Works well and grinding nails is not going to stress the device.

Usual caveats apply around not holding it against the nails long to avoid heating them as with any Dremmel type nail grinder.

We purchased the Dremel to grind our dogs nails instead of cutting them. It has already paid for itself because the vet no longer charges me $12 per dog for nail trimming. For that it is more than enough power. I like the variable speeds for that job, too. It works out well. I do plan on using it for other projects around the house but haven't had a chance yet. It seems to have enough power and stability to do quite a bit.
Most of the attachments that came with it I will never use.
Overall, I would recommend this product to a friend who would use it as I am but I'm still not sure what it is capable of yet.

Actually I could live without this, but it makes life sooo much easier. For years I had a less powerful, battery charged Dremel and I loved it. It burned out after about 15 years. I got this model and i use it for many, many things around the home. It (along with my portable drill) is my go-to. If I still did crafts i would probably sleep with it too! It is easy to use, consistent, and the variable speed is a no-brainer with it's ease of use. Many of the bits are superflous for me - until I need a "whatsamajig for something weird." We'll be travelling for a year and this is going with us.

I have an old Dremel 395, and I recently purchase a 4000 and most recently this 300 series kit. These are all being put to use in an electronics station I've built for different purposes. By far, my old 395 is a far, far better built and more precise tool. You can even tell by the weight of the old 395 that it is a tougher tool. The 4000 is a decent tool, but the feel of it is just light, and cheap, but at least the shaft seems to be centered and true. This 300 I just bought has a very noticeable wobble and bind to the shaft, and I called Dremel about this issue. I was surprised by their attitude and the response of "Dremels are not precision tools". Basically, the conversation ended with "if you don't like it, return it to the store" and was left with a feeling they have tossed quality out the window to save money on production, and it doesn't concern them. I was going to use the 300 in the Dremel workstation's drill press I bought for use with very small drill bit work on circuit cards, but the wobble is so bad I know it will snap the bits. Instead, the 4000 I bought will be used on the drill press, and I have decided to use this 300 instead with the flex shaft I bought since it doesn't seem to impede it's operation any, so that will be it's job from now on. Very, very disappointed with you Dremel. You were always better than this. Also... I would like to note that many of their grinding bits are poorly centered now and off balance. If Dremel doesn't get their act together, they'll gain a reputation of poor quality, and that's hard to shake. I'll be looking elsewhere on the internet for old 395's from now.

Sorry to offer negative remarks, but I was so excited to find this Dremel at a good price for my husband's birthday and disappointed at it's performance. When he first started it up, it vibrated and was so noisy he was ready to ship it back. He's had Dremel's before and always satisfied, just about wore his old one out. So don't know what the problem was, maybe just a lemon because the Dremel product has always been good. Just not this one.

I bought this for my husband we have had other rotary tools, but Dremel is by far the best! I dont know who uses it more . The best thing about this Dremel is being able to choose and change the speed and wouldnt you know the low speed is actually a low speed, which is nice for those jobs where you want to be careful. I also love Dremels handy storage cases, rugged and tough on the outside and inside every piece of the kit has its own little slot even the owners manual has its place. No more loose bits and pieces banging around loose. I dont know about Oprah, but Dremel is one of my most favorite things!
