There isn't a better way to get an intimate portrait of both Anamalai Swami and Bhagavan. I met Anamalai Swami and there is no doubt in my mind that he was utterly peaceful and straightforward. What a gem of a being! I am a devotee of Bhagavan Ramana Maharishi, so this is pure joy and wisdom for me. Show's Bhagavan the man beautifully.

This is a really good book. The last section - Conversations - - I have not read anywhere else. Its a shame this book is not as widely available as the other books. I am really happy I bought this one. I would think initially that why to hear from anyone else other than the Bhagavan. However, Annamalai Swami was there constantly with Bhagavan and he has so much to offer to an aspirant especially because he was one himself initially. The entire book is so well written that it feels that he is talking to us. This is a truly good book.

I have read many of the Ramana Maharshi related books available and I must say this one is second to none in terms of getting an understanding of what life at the ashram was like during that time. A fascinating read in which I learned several new things that I had not read elsewhere.

This book contains many stories about Ramana and the behavior of his followers that are outside of the more common, devotional descriptions. Many of them were very eye-opening!

I love Ramana and think about him throughout each day. I can't give this a full recommendation though - something about David Godman's books has just never worked for me. I read it once, but somehow it isn't a book I can continually hold to my heart, like the Talks.

An excellent Ramana Maharshi book that is still in print

This excellent book has many in-depth stories of life in Ramana Maharshi's Ashram, both while he was still alive and afterwards. It concludes with many valuable teachings from Annamalai Swami, one of his foremost disciples (and the only one who Ramana authorized to start his own Ashram).

This book is still in print ! Do not pay high prices from Amazon Marketplace sellers who are taking advantage of the fact that Amazon itself does not sell it, and so appears to be out of print. They are charging several times the new price.

You can order it directly from the publisher, in a nice hardback edition with many photographs. The publisher's name is listed by Amazon above and you should be able to find it with a web search.
