WARNING! DON'T TAKE A CHANCE!

Although I purchase items regularly on Amazon, this is my first review. I'm taking the time to, because it's important.

I bought the 16 GB Patriot CF card because I shoot weddings and I need to shoot RAW. I like having more memory but decided to go the cheaper route and get an off brand CF card. I used it once with no problems and reformatted it in my camera like I always do. The next wedding I shot through the whole card, everything seemed fine, and I shot through a few SanDisk cards, too. When I imported my pictures the next day, my SanDisk photos imported with no problem but my Patriot card reads "ERR CF" and "No Photos Found".

I'm sure I'll be able to get the images through some digital image recovery software (that costs as much as a name brand CF card), but do yourself a favor... just get the name brand CF card the first time!!!!! The pictures you take a priceless, don't cut corners with your memory storage. Hard lesson learned.

I have long been a Patriot flash memory user. I've had no problems with their RAM memory and flash drives but this CF card offers horrible performance. I used this card my Canon 7d and the write speed is awful! 1/5 shots the preview picture doesn't appear on the rear LCD screen because the camera is still writing to the card (and this is NOT in burst mode). I can get some fast burst rates but when the buffer fills, the card takes forever to write to. Video shuts down 1/2 the time because of the slow card. Unless you don't care about the write speed, I would stay away from this card! Spend a little more and go with Transcend, Kingston, Sandisk or Lexar!

This isn't the card you want

It's a CF card, I thought. How could there be a significant difference between the big names and an off-brand?

Well shortly after first buying it, my Rebel XTI declared it couldn't access the card. "Hmm," think I. "It must have been badly formatted." So I reformatted it in the camera itself after using some hard disk software to do a complete scan and wipe.

It seemed fine.

Bad decision.

About 300 pictures in, again, the camera couldn't access the card. Looking at the card on my computer, it was definitely corrupt.

Fortunately, I'm now the proud owner of some software that was able to pull most of my pictures from the card. Thank you AppleXSoft.

But this card is going into the electronics recycle bin.

Great speed, not enough byte?

Just got the card today. I am happy to see the UDMA label on its package. With 266X or 60M/s speed, it is potentially a candidate for SSD. That was exactly what I did by popping it into a SATA/CF adapter.

The tested speed using HDTUNE is about 60M/s in most of its capacity and pretty constant.

My biggest complain was the 8GB size. It is shown at about 7.4GB by computer! If it is a 1TB and with the 1024 ~ 1000 trick I can understand the not full size. For a 8GB how can it appear as 7.4GB?!

Since my camera is quite old, the data processing will never over-run this memory.

Nice capacity but iffy

64gb in a Canon 7d for video shooting is perfect, but I don't know if it's my Canon 7D or the card, but after a while of usage, video recording intermittently stops by itself after maybe 3 seconds, then I have to press record again then it records uninterruptedly. So when I'm reviewing all the video files I took, I have lots these unwanted 3-4 sec. clips to delete. But if you can deal with that, then you're good, in the sense that you don't have to keep dumping 2 16gbs interchangeably while in action where every moment shouldn't be missed.

Stores 16gb, a steal of a price, but it's more than you bargained for

This card is "rated to 266x" yet performs quite poorly. I purchased this card to use in my D200 and inevitably my D700, but I have a feeling it just won't cut it. It has a consistent read/write speed of 2.66 megabytes a second - and it takes an hour and a half to dump 16gb worth of RAW images from my DSLR. Seriously, spend the extra money (if speed is an issue) and get one that can handle it.

Honestly, I think the worst part of it all is the deceptive speed rating on this card. It "works" in every sense of the word, but not quite as advertised. Dumping 16 gigs of data from this card is excruciating, and if your time is money (I'd like to think mine is) the faster card will pay for itself.

I can see this card being great for lower usage types (merely wanting space "just in case"), but since I often fill the card up to the brink - I feel the full effects of the poor read speeds.

Solid CF card

Only a while ago this would have been a steal of a deal.

266X is very fast and responsive on my 7D and 8GB is a good number for a CF card.
The only problem might be that there are companies such as kingston that make them in 16Gb which only costs couple more dollars than this one.

Overall good product.

Fastest card I've seen

Pretty durable for the Texas heat too. I use it in a CF-IDE adapter in a smaller laptop outdoors running a small footprint of lubuntu.

I like it. I'd buy two next time, because I tested it out in my wife's camera and the "speed shot" never lagged as it wrote to the card.
