I debated between getting this lamp or one with LEDs. I ultimately settled on this one for various reasons, and there definitely things I like about it. It is a nice bright light, and the plastic sheet in front of the of the light bulb does a nice job of diffusing the glow so it's easy to look at without squinting if you're using it as a light box and casts a nice glow over the area you're illuminating if you're using it as a lamp.
It has two downsides.
One is that it emits a lot of heat. If I'm in a room that's already comfortably warm, turning on the lamp makes it uncomfortable in short order. Since people may be more inclined to use their light box in cold weather months, that may be okay, but it's an important thing to be aware of.
The second is that the stand is terribly designed. I wound up giving up. I got rid of the stand attachment, and I just set it flat on its (hexagonal and flat) base. It's not super sturdy this way, but it is actually much more stable without the stand than with.
I decided that it was good enough that I wouldn't return it, but I think if I had the chance to do it all over again, I would have made a different choice.
