There is, according to Burlesque, a nightclub on the Sunset Strip that looks like a blend of Cabaret and Moulin Rouge and employs a full contingent of dancers and musicians in the service of a neo-retro-burlesque-blues program. Presiding over the craziness within is Tess, a grande dame who also performs occasionally and who could only, under these circumstances, be played by Cher. Entering the scene is a young leather-lunged hopeful from Iowa named Ali, played by Christina Aguilera in her movie-acting debut. The vibe of this glitzy concoction is more Flashdance than Showgirls, despite prerelease predictions that the film would be a campfest of epic proportions. In fact, it's more cornball than trashy. Ali hits most of the clichés of the genre: defying Tess's skepticism by proving her mettle during an impromptu stage number; flirting with the nice-guy bartender (Cam Gigandet, of Twilight) whose home she shares for a while, in a purely platonic way, of course, just until she gets her feet on the ground; and keeping a wary eye on the high roller (Eric Dane, of Grey's Anatomy) who wants to possess her, because, you see, he takes whatever he likes. And did we mention that Tess is facing foreclosure on the club in a month's time? Seriously, you didn't see that coming? Writer-director Steve Antin has no embarrassment about putting any of this across, which may be why it all feels weirdly innocent, if relentlessly silly. Stanley Tucci revives his gay assistant from The Devil Wears Prada, Alan Cumming lurks about in an undefined role that might well have been filmed months after everybody else, and Kristen Bell enjoys a few wicked-witch moments as Ali's main rival. Aguilera, needless to say, belts out her songs as only someone with a very large voice can, and Cher stops the show with an old-fashioned torch song ("You Haven't Seen the Last of Me") that is clearly designed as a roof-raiser. (And, by gum, it works.) This is a ridiculous movie, but it gets points for never claiming to be anything else. --Robert Horton

I tried everything: camisole to cover my bra seams, and a slip to cover the underwear seams, but nothing worked. Instead, the seams became more obvious with each layer, and with each layer came another seam. Even the seamless slip I owned didn’t work. You could see wear it stopped and started. I tried the right underwear, and the right compression shirts, but it all failed in the end.
I bought it for a bridesmaid dress for a wedding that was last minute, so I was unable to buy a different dress. Had to wear it, felt very self conscious, and at the end of the day, couldn’t wait to get back into jeans and a tee.
Anyway, buy this dress at your own peril, but I’d say keep looking even though its super pretty and seems modest at first. More trouble than it’s worth, tbh.
The neckline scoops down nicely to mid collarbones, but is still modest and doesn't show cleavage. The material is so soft, I couldn't stop touching the dress. The arms are fitted toward the shoulder line, but they have great movement and you have full range of motion with your arms.
The tie hits right at the natural waist. On smaller chested girls it is very cute, but I have to be careful not to tie it too tight otherwise it really accentuates the size of my chest. The pleats on the bottom of the dress and sleeves are super cute and flowy. This is definitely the type of dress you want to dance and twirl in. The bottom has enough fabric weight to it though that you don't risk flashing anyone. The color is beautiful, and I get compliments on it all the time at work and church.
The only complaint I might have is that the dress material does show underwear and bra lines, but spandex or seamless underwear fix that problem. The dress is very hard to wrinkle, but when it does, it just steams right out. This dress is great for summer or pairs nicely with a sweater and booties for fall and winter.
I'm the type who spends hours researching and comparing dresses, and I would wholeheartedly recommend this dress to others.

I was not a fan of the Daybreak color, it did not seem to look like the color in the online photo--a lot more purple than blue. I also ordered the Light Blue. This also did not seem to match the online photo (still pretty color though) until I stepped into more natural lighting and then it was exactly the color I expected. I ordered in a size small and medium and felt the medium worked best.

Cher and Aguilera contributed to the soundtrack album, with Aguilera contributing eight out of the ten songs and Cher taking the remaining two. The album was released in the USA on November 22, 2010[4] and received two nominations at the 54th Grammy Awards. The song "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me", penned by Diane Warren and sung by Cher, won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in 2011, while the movie was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in the Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category. The film has grossed over $90 million worldwide. It is rated PG-13.
The story follows small town girl Ali as she moves to LA to try and become a star. After a day of unsuccessful atempts to find a job, she stumbles on Burlesque, owned by Tess (Cher) and sets out to get a spot on the stage. At this point you start to feel like you are watching any number of other similar films (Cayote Ugly, Make it Happen etc)
Don't get me wrong, the dancing and costumes and great, but the songs are only ok with none being particulalry memorable. Ali often comes off as whiney or just completely unrealistic while Tess seems to just yell at people a lot. The bonding moment between Tess and Ali is cringe worthy and doesn't feel real. I did enjoy Kristen Bell as the opposition to Ali, she played the egotistical star well. The 2 male leads are charming and defeintely nice to watch. Cam Gidget provides a surprising amount of comedy to the film.
Overall this film has some good points but if you are looking for a good "small town girl makes it in the big city" I would stick with Cayote Ugly.
I was wrong. The story is good the costumes and acts superb.
In fact the story is better than good and really quite inspiring in its triumph of hope over adversity. The finding of a legal quirk, is what the plot hinges upon.
Cher is magnificent, I have always thought she is a better actress than singer.
But the absolute, unquestioned star is Christina Aguilera.
Her voice is something I had never paid much attention to before. Some say she could run a demolition team with it. It is simply amazing. She acts well too.
This film? It is really rather good.........
Plus there's plenty of eye candy for both sexes. Anyone fancy one of Jack's cookies?
