I used a sheet of printer paper to make my first envelope and found that using the same light pressure I would use with a pencil and running the folder over the groove a couple times worked well to get the score lines. (the bone folder does NOT have to make contact with the bottom of the groove to score the paper which might be why some ppl have issues with it tearing the paper.)
The board itself is pretty rigid and has foam feet to help keep it from sliding. The packaging stated it had an 'improved' bone folder which feels pretty sturdy to me so it appears MS has addressed that issue. (I may even sand the edges of the tip a little so it doesn't have as snug a fit)
Some reviewers indicated the instructions were a little too simple, leaving them to figure steps out on their own so maybe the instructions improved too since I didn't have that issue. The instruction pamphlet with diagrams only covered a few projects: an A2 card, an A2 gate fold card, an envelope for an A2 dimensional card, and a 4x4x2" box with lid. (It gives you the general idea that you then apply to the measurements they give for the additional sizes for the card, envelope and box/lid.) The envelope guide gives you the measurements for the following sizes: #1, 4 bar, A2, A6, A7, A9, 6" square, and #10 and states that you should decrease the length and width of the starting paper by an 1/8th inch to make envelopes for flat cards. Since some of the cards I make have dimensional embellishments I thought this a nice detail. The instructions adhered to the inside of the 'tool compartment' gives the measurements for cards (which coincide with the envelope sizes) and the following box/lid sizes: 2x2x2, 3x3x2, 4x4x2, 4x4x4, 5x5x3.5, 6x6x3, and 7x7x2.5. I agree with other reviewers that these instructions shouldn't have been adhered to the inside of the compartment since the writing is so small. (I may type up the measurements and use my xyron sticker maker to adhere them to the top of the lid for easier reference.) Of course you can use youtube to get additional ideas on how to use it - I watched one that showed how to make accordion folded medallions.
Given the little issues, I would honestly score it a 4.75 but since that wasn't an option I rounded it up. My paper folding leaves a little to be desired so I think this will be a very handy tool, especially since I do origami.
Why not the scor-pal? A lot of you might want an answer to this question. The scor-pal is another widely using scoring board in the papercrafting industry. People who use the scor-pal claim that the grooves in the scor-pal are deeper, therefore the scoring is much more easier. I do not own the scor-pal, so I can't compare them both. But as far as my experience with the MS score board goes, I love it. I find the depth of the grooves to be adequate for my needs (and for the price).
The bone folder that comes along with it is a bit sharp so be careful while using it on copy papers. It is the only bone folder I have, and I am quite happy with it. It does leave a shiny edge on cardstock when you are scoring it, and some people find it a bit of a annoyance, and use teflon bone folders, which cost around $20. That's too much money for just avoiding a shiny edge, so I'll pass on that.
I score all my cards on my scoreboard. But that is not what I most appreciate about it. I like making miniatures out of cardstock. I made a small Christmas village last year, and it wouldn't have been possible without the scoring board. I downloaded templates, printed them out, and scored all corners using the scoreboard. The project was a success, and the process was a breeze :) So if you are into papercrafts more than cardmaking this is one tool you will find a lot of use for. So, if you are a card-maker(not a scrapbooker) the mini scoring board is the one you should be looking for. It's small and handy, and does the same scoring as the scoreboard. Since you are making only cards, the dimensions should be just enough.
The Envelope maker comes in handy when I want to make customized envelopes. But, I don't use this feature as much as I thought I would do.
The little compartment on the top is very handy. I store my bone folder, my black felt tip pen, white uniball signo, glue pen, pencil and my eraser in it.
The scoreboard is also sturdy enough. I've dropped it a couple of times from my desk, and no damage was done.
I've been using the score board for 2 years now, and I have no complaints. I 100% recommend it for papercrafters.

I found the envelope adapter a bit tricky to use at first but once I made a couple found it a bit easier, although some of the recommended sizes came out larger or smaller than I expected.
The board is nice and sturdy and of good quality. It's a bit expensive but well worth it as I have made loads of boxes, cards and envelopes with it and have many more ideas for more.
This is, in my humble opinion, the very best scoring board on the market. Light weight, very flat and most importantly has 1/8 inch markings in inches. Only criticism is that the scoring tool that comes with the board is too flimsy for my liking so I just use a 3mm permagano, embossing tool for perfect results.
In fact, I like it so much that I went back and ordered another one so that visiting family and friends have one to use when that sudden urge to make something hits..
