Bought this for my 15 lb Havanese, switching from a gravity water fountain I had to clean at least twice a week, but at the time was doing a good job. I researched the heck out of these style contraptions and finally landed on this one, which I think is the best one under $50.
PROS:
- Easily cleanable: I take it apart and clean it every week or two to remove the recycled saliva.
- Energy efficient. 2.4W pump uses about $0.26 of electricity per month (based on $0.15/kWh in southern CA).
- Fountain is great for adding ice and cooling off the water quickly on a hot day.
- Replacement filters are very inexpensive and easy to prepare and snap in.
CONS:
- As other reviews state, the design of the pump wiring could be better. I first installed it backwards and thought I had a defective unit, but as long as you are gently with it, the molding should hold up (check out pictures for installation tips).
- You will have to watch the water level, as there is no automatic shut-off, and allowing the pump to run while the level is low will wear out the unit very fast.
