- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2015I bought this camera to install on my father's TV so we could easily do video chats. This is what the product promises, and it is the one thing it is designed to do. Sadly it does not deliver on the promise. It took me hours over several days to install it. (I have a lot of experience with electronics, so this isn't just me.) Many descriptions in the manual do not match what you see on the screen. Setting up an account and activating the device took multiple attempts (and turning the thing off and on several times). To call it from an iPhone or iPad, I needed a separate app from a different company ($11 with video option), which was also complicated to set up. Still, I persevered. The first call actually worked, and it seemed I had mastered the beast. But then the camera went into some sort of sleep and calls did not go through. Nothing happened on the TV end. I had to unplug the device and plug it back in (it has no on-off switch) to wake it and make it available for receiving or making calls.
This was my experience using the simplest setup, which involves directly connecting the Biscotti to the TV with the HDMI cable (which was missing in the box I received). The more complicated setup, which the company recommends in the manual, involves putting the Biscotti between the cable signal and the TV, so that you can receive calls while watching TV. Unsurprisingly, this did not work at all: the TV received neither the cable signal nor incoming calls on the Biscotti. It simply displayed a blank screen saying "No Signal."
There was also "no signal" from Biscotti customer service, which is really a disservice. When you call the phone number that they provide in the manual, a recording tells you to go to their website and send them email. I did this three times and received no response (this was two days ago). I also left them voice mail; same result. Zero stars would have been more appropriate, but alas Amazon does not offer that option.
Update: After some back and forth, I was sent another device by the company. It worked more or less as advertised on the first test call, which involved calling the TV from an iPhone with the requisite app. The second call was already more complicated: the caller's image appeared on the TV, but not the other way around. The third call introduced a new wrinkle: now the caller's image appeared sideways, and the only way to fix it was to ask him to turn his iPhone 90 degrees (or lie down while talking). Then, after about a week of being plugged in, unaccountably the Biscotti device blocked the TV signal coming from the cable box. (It is installed between cable and TV.) Nothing would fix it except unplugging the whole thing. It's now in the trash, where it belongs.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2013Was disappointed this does not allow originating call to remote user with Google talk since was discontinued July 30 2013. Otherwise is handy device.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2013Google Talk is gone and will not intgegrate with anything Google anymore. Only thing that saved me from returning 2 of these was having to purchase Bria application for android/ipad if you want to talk from non Biscotti device. So that Bria cost me about another $20 so be prepared.
The other thing that is not known is if your device boots up with red and yellow screen that ks the old software and after connecting it to wifi it can take upto 40min to autoupdate with the lastest sip software.
Spoke to customer support and if wasn't for the fact they called me back immediatelyand gave good support, I would have returned the product. Anyway its the only product like this the market and for selfish reasons that I'd like this to stay open and free biscotti service to continue, I had to tell the rest of amazon community the latest scoop.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2012Biscotti, Biscotti HD TV CAM (Catalog Category: Cameras / Digital Cameras- Desktop)I had trouble installing the camera and it was the day before Christmas Eve. The support center was closed till January 2nd. I wrote an email explaining my problem and a support specialist answered it from home. We tried several changes over 5 emails. Conclusion--she fedex'd a new complete set overnight after totally testing it in their office before shipping. I got the new camera and had it installed and tested in 30 minutes. It's very simple to use, has a great picture. We love it and I highly recommend it. Great support.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2016Biscotti is the best customer service is the greatest I had a issue and they resolved it right away could not ask for better customer service thumbs up all the way
- Reviewed in the United States on December 25, 2012Its hard to put into words the frustration this product generates. Horrible data entry? Check. Complete lack of ACTUALLY WORKING? Check. I run a mobile app development company, so its not a "stupid user" problem. Absolutely the most useless and anger inducing product I think I've seen in years. If you work for or have invested in this company, run away immediately.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2012I got this thinking it would be the next best thing since sliced bread. It took a lot of work to get it to work properly. I had to get a wifi extender just to make it work. Had to enter the MAC address in my wifi router so the router allowed it to pass through.
Customer service was somewhat helpful. It was almost like if my problem was not the ordinary problems that showed up on their screen, them they didn't know what they were talking about.
Also, people on the other end must have a strong signal also. Unlike Skype, where a good instead of great signal will work, biscotti needs to have a pretty darn good signal.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2013We got this for my in-laws who have no idea on how to use skype (or a computer for that matter). It works well for us (we got one too). Picture quality is just ok and it always says we have weak wifi (even though Verizon disagrees and its setup one room away from the box). But, to my in laws it is fabulous. For us, its meh.
