- Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2010I was looking for my first external hard drive to back up mainly my pictures and music. There were some good choices on Amazon, but I narrowed it down to the Iomega. The actual packaging of the product was pretty good and straight forward. A simple clear plastic covering around a sturdy cardboard with a slightly glossy finish. Inside the packaging, the hard drive was displayed and securely placed in a clear plastic mold that kept it stable and from moving which helped avoid some damage during transport. The design of this hard drive is very sleek, but seems sturdy. However, if you get really annoyed by fingerprints the glossy finish may cause some frustration. It runs very quietly and you'll have to actually listen for the noise to hear anything. Size and weight isn't an issue, so if you prefer to have this in your pocket it can be done without weighing you down or creating any unnecessary bulges.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2011Positive:
The device is extremely portable and designed to provide protection against drops. In addition, this version of the hard drive doesn't come with annoying software that you need to run to use it.
Negative:
While the design of the unit is good, it is not reliable for long data transfers. When transfer large amounts of data, such as backing up a hard drive, it will start to making clicking sounds and eventually stall; this effectively ends the backup. This can be extremely frustrating if you are backing up 100 gbs of data and you waited an hour for it to stall at the end. I have found that if I listen for the clicking and shift the orientation of the drive when the clicking occurs, I can prevent the drive from failing. While this is a usable fix, it is extremely annoying.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2011Received this product in a nice box. Still looks like it would break if you drop it. Has a rubber housing around it.
Instantly connected to my netbook and created a back up.
Not a fan of the 2 usb port requirement that Iomega still chooses to use. I prefer the single usb.
Still it serves its purpose for back up.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2010This hard drive has worked well so far. I purchased it to use as a Time Machine backup for my MacBook Pro, as I wasn't backing up my data enough with my desktop hard drive that I keep at home. Additionally, I wanted a portable hard drive which would be able to hold up to a drop, should it fall during transport. Haven't dropped yet, but it's working well still. It gets 4/5 stars rather than 5/5 simply because it is rather noisy and the build quality could be a little better.
Pros:
- Easy setup: no syncing software
- Small
- Rated to withstand impacts
Cons:
- Rubber bumper adds bulk
- A little noisy
- Somewhat cheap feel
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2013I've been using this as a "file name to file name" backup for over a year. Works great. I am able to retrieve files just as if they were on an external drive. I am not using the built-in backup software. Using the software would allow for quicker backups, but I could then not use the eGo as an external drive and retrieve files on other computers.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2013I had this for about 2 yrs or so. I never dropped it to see if it stands up to a beating but I wouldnt want to try. It is still made by man. However, It is a great hard drive. Small size to fit in my bag. Great case. I would recommend it to anyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2010Excellent product
Pros: simple setup, no software necessary
light, and extremely portable
thick rubber banding edges while leaving enough space clear do it does not overheat
Cons: cord is slightly unwieldy
highly recommended for huge storage in tiny bundle
- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2010500 GB with a very small size
looks nice
only need USB 3.0 to become the best product on the market
don't pay 99$ like I did you can find it for 79$
