This Anderson Metals hose fitting is made of brass and connects hose to threaded pipe conforming to the National Pipe Thread (NPT) standard. This adapter is for a fixed connection between plastic or rubber hose and pipe made of copper, nylon, or plastic. A barbed fitting on one end creates a tight seal on flexible or semi-rigid hose when used with a hose clamp or crimp sleeve or ferrule (sold separately), and a female NPT connector on the other end connects to threaded pipe. This fitting is made of brass for corrosion resistance, ductility at high temperatures, and low magnetic permeability. The fitting has a temperature range of 32 to 200 degrees F.

I work at an oil change shop that also does several other preventative maintenance services such as tire rotations. We use a pneumatic impact drill to loosen and tighten the lug nuts on the tires. During one of these services, the connect blew up while I using it and that hose had to be shut off until we could get it repaired. The repair was as easy as cutting off the old fitting, getting a new coupler, and a new fitting (this one). A bit of Teflon tape later and we had a working hose again. It's been working for several months without issue. No leaks, hissing, anything. When nothing is connected on the line, it's silent. This is a good quality product, it shipped out quickly and was exactly what I needed.

I ordered this item and also a 3/4" Barb X 3/4 Female because I could not find this type of fitting locally. The outside diameter on both of these are undersized that it's impossible to clamp them tight enough to keep water from leaking out. I measured these compared to other standard barb fitting used for hose and plastic water lines and found these are about 1/16th inch smaller outside diameter than others. I'd recommend not using these. Imagine trying to connect a water line in a 6-foot deep pit in the ground, and these not sealing tight. Also, because the OD is undersized, the wall thickness is really thin and fragile.

Cut a 100 ft air hose down to 65 ft and used this connector to put on a male end to plug into the air compressor. Good brass, good pipe threads, a wrap of Teflon tape and then the male end just tightened up easily and no leaks. Didn't even have to bare down on it to get a good seal. A dab of spit on the barbs and it pushed right into the high quality genuine rubber hose. Crimp is holding tight at 120 PSI. Now I just order this type of hardware from Amazon because I am tired of going to Home Depot just to find that they are out of stock or don't even carry what I need. So I'm happy when the part works as it should. Simple things make my day! LOL!

Fitting is described as Pipe NPT Female to hose barb. Threading is in fact SAE 13NC NOT Pipe NPT Female. Incorrect description and it wouldn't work with my application. I requested a return and was granted but I am expected to pay for the return postage? Too costly to return

I'm changing my review. Fittings Space stands by its products. I would deal with them again. Thank you.

I apparently didn't read all of the seller's information on this product. I am trying to install a pressure switch for a water pump for my cabin. I didn't notice that the fitting contains lead until after it arrived and it is therefore not permitted to be used in drinking water supplies.

It appears well made so I'll hang onto it for other projects that don't involve drinking water.

Just so everyone is clear, NPT is short for National Pipe Thread. Pipe thread has a taper. I ordered 1/4" NPT female hose barb. What I got was a straight female thread, which leaked because it doesn't seal against a pipe thread. The wrapper is gone, because I didn't think that Amazon would make this kind of error, so I can't verify the mfg's specs.

trap primer from laundry trap

I had a drain in the basement laundry room that had a 1/8" tube feeding it to my old laundry sink. I renovated the laundry room and put in a new counter/sink. My problem was that the new laundry faucet does not come with a 1/8" hose barb to feed water to the trap every time I turned on the tap.

The solution was to get these two items:

SMC KQ2T11-35AS PBT & Brass Push-to-Connect Tube Fitting with Sealant, Branch Tee, 3/8" Tube OD x 1/4" NPT Male
Anderson Metals Brass Hose Fitting, Connector, 1/8" Barb x 1/4" Female Pipe

Then i cut the 3/8" soft copper line that connects the tap to the faucet. Then I inserted the Tee (with the hose barb to female NPT adapter already installed).
This allowed me to connect the 1/8" tube to the faucet so that whenever i turn on the tap, it feeds water to the drain to keep the P trap fresh.

This part worked like a charm
