- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2010First things first, if you're reading this with anticipation of buying this gun, look at this item (with the 40 bonus darts) and the set without the bonus darts (Nerf N-Strike Stampede ECS). I was lucky, in that they were the exact same price, and therefore bought this one. If the set without the bonus darts is cheaper, you'll have to make that assessment of which one to buy. Keep in mind that 40 darts cost about 8-10 bucks.
Okay, on to the real review.
This gun is amazingly fun. It's also amazingly well designed and constructed. A summary of innovations:
-From a safety point of view, there's a on/off switch (looks a lot like a single/auto fire on many machine guns), as well as two other safety fire controls: 1) It won't fire without an ammo clip in place. 2) It won't fire when the un-jam slide cover isn't closed.
-The numerous hold positions (main grip, barrel grip, long top grip, and bipod/grip) make holding this gun easy, and the design of the main grip balances the heavy battery decently.
-The 18 round clips are relatively easy to load, and haven't jammed yet in about an hour's play.
-The bipod/grip attaches easily and sturdily, and the bipod deploy button is easily triggered with your thumb.
-The gun has a clear plastic panel on the right side of the gun, which allows you to see the machine operate as it spits out nerf bullets.
-The included blast shield secures easily onto the barrel of the gun.
-Numerous attachment points, 5 if I remember.
As great as this gun is, a few areas of improvement exist.
-Blast shield slips off a bit too easily, just incidental bumping can dislodge it.
-The blast shield blocks the aim hole (not a real scope).
-Nerf doesn't sell spare 18 round clips or the 35 round barrel separately, so what you have is it.
-No way the spare clips can be attached to the mount points.
Gun is heavy but not too heavy, even my 9 year old daughter was able to hold and fire it easily. Good aim, decent distance. The streamline darts sting very slightly. Gun fires about 1 every second, with about a half to 1 second delay from trigger pull to shoot (as opposed to pressure operated Nerfs like the Rapidfire 20, which have no delay). So yes, if you need to unload 15 rounds ASAP, the Rapidfire 20 (which is my second favorite Nerf) will win out, since that sucker fires at about 3 per second when fully pumped, but in an extended Nerf war, the Stampede, which comes with 3 18-round clips, comes out ahead.
Overall, highly recommended. We have a little over a dozen nerfs, and this one definitely is the best one to date!
Hey, Nerf/Hasbro. Can you work with SuperSoaker? I've been waiting a long time for a 6D battery operated SuperSoaker for a while now!
[UPDATE 11/02/2010: As stated in a comment posted by me, if you like this gun, it's even better with a 35 round drum magazine! The only problem is, the only way to currently get the drum is by buying the Nerf Rapidfire CS-35 (Nerf N-Strike Raider Rapid Fire CS-35 Dart Blaster). I bought one, just to try it with the 35 round drum (it works well!) but would prefer to buy a few more spare drums. Hopefully Nerf will relent and sell the drums separately, or at least the 18 round clips separately (only place that I know that has the 18 round clip is via this Stampede, although I think there also exists an 18 round drum).]
- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2012Hi, I am Home school Mama's son. I'm 14 years old and I bought two Stampedes for battles between me and my friends and my 3 younger sisters (who all like Nerf). Before I bought these I had fought with smaller Nerf pistols and Mavericks that I bought so the Stampedes were a major upgrade. They have behaved like winners, taking out all the opposition.
pros
- fires really fast
- does not take long to ram another clip in
- durable
- shield works great
- bi-pod is a good close combat weapon :)
cons
- the one Stampede jams more than the other one (which has not jammed yet)
- the guns are too heavy for my 3 year old sister to carry so she will have to still use a pistol (sorry)
NERF IS AWESOME!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2010Well - its 2 minutes of awesome fun....then big let down. It jams. It doesn't shoot. It simply doesn't work. Thought it was just ours, sent it back to amazon...but everyone else who I spoke to said theirs did the same thing. Really - NERF? Given some of the great fun you manufacture with the other nerf guns...why such a really bad product on this one. Nerf automatic? Perhaps that's just impossible given the bad ratings I've seen for the Vulcan as well.
DO NOT BUY.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2013I bought this Nerf gun for my kids and it is pretty cool...shoots a lot of N-Strike darts really fast so it is most fun with the 18 round dart magazines in my opinion. The smaller magazines work too, but this gun goes through them so fast the kids spend more time reloading then shooting. I was somewhat disappointed with this guns range, as the darts make it about 15 feet and then gravity takes over fast. This could be overcome slightly by shooting higher and sending the darts are more of an arc trajectory, but with as fast the darts are launched from the Stampede by the time the kids find out the correct angle to hit their target they are about out of darts...and that's with the 18 dart mags. The gun is quite cumbersome for younger kids or smaller kids and I think they would prefer something smaller. The bi-pod feature is slick, but not practical with the 18 dart mags installed, but it does double as a forward pistol grip when retracted and works well in that regard. If your kids are in a Nerf battle the Stampede is best utilized to fortify a position as opposed to being a portable attack gun, though slightly older / bigger kids could easily use it that way. Overall, I think the Stampede would make a good addition to your kid's Nerf arsenal, but I strongly advise getting more 18 dart mags and tons of extra darts....those things go everywhere.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2015good toy. but you have to change batteries every 2 3 days. buy a manual one. automatic is expensive.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2011I ordered the Nerf N-Strike Stampede ECS (with bonus darts) for my son as a Christmas present - he LOVES it! We got the bonus darts with it....although we have a multitude of darts all over, it allows my son to have more fun before retreiving all his darts.....and believe me, it doesn't take much time to run out of 100 darts! The darts will fly across the entire house and pretty good precision for a Nerf gun. Great gift - EXACTLY what he wanted! The product was shipped very well-with a plain brown box and packaging. (Not like one of the earlier reviews states). If your child likes nerf guns - this IS the one you want to get for them!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2011I purchased this toy for my grandson for Christmas.
The toy was fun for the short period it operated. Less than two weeks after Christmas the toy quit working.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2013It's a fully automatic nerf gun with enough clips and darts for a full on nerf war with the neighbor kids... What's not to love? It's a little heavy so I put a bandolier strap on it, that way my eight year old could run with it a little easier but other than the weight, this thing is awesome and much more maneuverable than the other fully automatic nerf gun (The Vulcan).

Barbara U. Robert HaberbergerReviewed in Germany on July 12, 20112.0 out of 5 stars Spaß
