I tried troubleshooting via updating the BIOS, chipset drivers and updating the SSD internal firmaware.....to no avail. All these attempts did not help. Changing boot priorities on the BIOS doesn't help. Disconnecting all drives except the SSD also doesn't help. It should NOT be this difficult to get this thing to work. you should be able to buy this off the shelf and expect it to work with MINIMAL maintenance. But that is not the case. I have a 4 year old Western Digital Mechanical drive that mysteriously works perfectly fine considering it is supposed to be vastly inferior to this SSD. As for the read write specs, I actually can't attest to because I have yet been able to get it to work long enough. At this point I am going to return this to Amazon and get a refund, I have no intention of ever buying SSDs from corsair again. However, I'm still a fan of their PC cases. I'm currently using the Graphite 760T, which I am very happy with so far, just not with SSDs. I did contact OCZ support and they gave me a procedure to follow and a tool for "secure erase" the drive, I followed the procedure, re-install the OS but just the first time I turned the laptop off and turned it on again same point before again. I had good communications with seller

Never could get this SSD to be recognized in the computer. Talked to Vertex support and they said it was probably defective. No longer any support for the drive as it had been out of production for some time and Vertex 3 was the current model. I had good communications with seller. He said it formatted fine for him, but credited my Amazon Account and said just trash the drive. I did, but not before opening it up, to see what the inside of an SSD looked like!

This was my intro to SSDs. It took a while to get it all installed with the operating system and a while to get my computer to look in the right place for programs, files, etc.

That was two weeks ago. Yesterday it went belly up. I figured it was something I had done. I got on the OCZ forum and they made suggestions, all to no use. The problem was not with me, the problem is with the drive.

I am not going to ask for a replacement. I'm sending it back to Amazon and will purchase a different brand. I have no interest in giving them a second chance. Having said that, there seem to be too many issues with SSds in general. Methinks the technology is not quite mature for prime time, though the potential is great and I'm sure within five years or so the spinning hard drives will go the way of the CRT monitor.

Anyway, two thumbs down for this OCZ solid state drive.

Have had nothing but trouble - 2 out of 2 dead - what a pain!

I am writing this review to make people aware of these SSD drives - forget about the speed, people - safety/reliability comes first!
i bought mine in january, and after installing it in my new Lenovo laptop, i was a happy owner of this Vertex drive, until 3 weeks later, when it abruptly died. No life in it and all my data was lost.
I called OCZ - got my RMA - and sent the drive back. Got a replacement.
Then other problems emerged. Computer hanged quite a lot (could be windows, who knows - i am writing this from my mac which never has given me any problems). And then regularly this error message. HDD0-initialization error. Did some reading online on it - its not clear what that comes from, but it is related to the SDD/drive as the problem is not there with the original mechanical drive. Problems with this replacement got worse over time - and now this drive has died too.
The 2nd drive lived longer than the first one by about 1-2 weeks. So definitely an improvement...
But to be serious: this is unacceptable. These drives are a complete joke and not fit for sale. And i am going to be asking my money back. This is a worthless product. It has cost me so much time now - i have lost data, and the so called speed improvements are useless if you have such unreliability.
I will update this review once i get more information - but for now - its been a complete disappointment.
UPDATE: What bothers me is that there is still no explanation from OCZ for this reliability issue - Ive had USB thumbsticks which NEVER die. This is not normal. I have asked OCZ several times for an explanation but they NEVER responded except to initiate the RMA process. Ridiculous. I will not use these drives if i cant understand what causes them to crash or not.
