As a researcher in the field of Sleep and Circadian Rhythms, I was ecstatic to find that people were using these glasses to improve sleep and adjust their circadian rhythm. For those who may not be aware, here's a brief explanation on why these would work: Our bodies are programmed to release melatonin during the night. With the advent of artificial light, we can expose our eyes to light during the night. When your eyes are exposed to light during night, melatonin release is shut down, disrupting your daily circadian rhythm (your brain thinks it's daytime when it is really night time), making it difficult to fall asleep. The receptors in your eyes that will convey the signal to halt melatonin release are most sensitive to light in the blue spectrum, providing an opportunity to prevent circadian disruption.

This does not mean that putting on these glasses in the middle of the day will make you fall asleep. I won't go into the details, but these will only be effective for people who stay up well past sunset (9:00 PM or later) and expose themselves to bright light (TV, computer, most room light). They could also be used by shift workers or people suffering jetlag trying to shift their circadian rhythms, but that is not simple, as there are many factors that go into modifying circadian rhythms correctly, and one could just as easily make things worse.

I try to wear these about an hour before bedtime, because I'm usually looking a computer screen or TV. By blocking out light, and specifically blue light, wearing these glasses helps me fall asleep much quicker, and prevents blue light from disrupting my circadian rhythm.

The only downside is you will look like a mad scientist wearing them around the house.

I really like these, only 4 stars because they put some much weight my glasses, which hurts the bridge of my nose to wear them for more than 2 hours.

I had been having difficulty falling asleep for years, laying in bed for up to 2 hours trying to fall asleep. I assumed this was stress/anxiety related, as I had previously tried reducing caffeine, or limiting it to very early morning, exercising/showering at different times of the day, etc.; but I still found myself nearly dependent on melatonin to fall asleep. I started reading and found some posts about the effect of blue light on your sleep cycle. This seemed plausible to me, as I work on a computer all day and on an online degree or gaming in the evenings. I looked at screen covers, and found them cost prohibitive (especially as I'd need to cover multiple phones/monitors between work and personal devices). So I gave these a try.

They have made a significant difference for me. They may look a little silly on me, but it's not a deal breaker. Now that I know these work, and blue light may have been my biggest sleep hindrance, I might spring for a nicer pair, but I just wanted the cheapest thing I could find to test the theory.

Within days of wearing these the last 2-3 hours before going to sleep, I noticed a difference. I was able to stop taking melatonin, and start falling asleep in a more reasonable amount of time (usually 5-15 minutes). I also seemed to get more restful sleep.

Of course, I quickly got complacent with my newfound restfulness, and stopped using them. A week later I was wondering why I hadn't been sleeping well, and realized the change coincided with stopping wearing my orange glasses.

My husband and I use these a couple hours prior to bedtime. We look like a skit from Saturday Night Live! However, we are sleeping better. They fit well over our glasses too.

the lens is clearer than s1933X. i use it for adjusting my circadian rhythm (refer lowbluelight.com) when i wear these i work as long as i want to at night but i pop off to sleep in 5-10 mins of hitting the bed. not sure if it is only because of these since i've gone paleo recently too so no more sinus problem keeping me up. most laptops emit uv above 320 nm and this blocks uv+visible light upto 540 nm so its good for office work, not graphics. (most screen protectors for LCDs work somewhere between 320 nm - 380nm, not entirely reliable even when they claim 99.9% uv block) i cant use it in the day time, it puts me to sleep so i've ordered clear uvex fitlogic uvextreme for daytime laptop work. i work on it 14/7/365, earlier i used to sleep with blurred vision and wake up with it too. now i go to sleep with blurred vision and wake up with 20/20. if i cut down on laptop time i should be able to have 20/20 through and through. the glasses are part of an overall healthy regime once you get into the discipline/wake up to it, which some of us do eventually.

however be cautioned these are hideous looking glasses, be prepared for a few shrieks from your family ;-)

one more point about screen filters vs. uvex glasses. i see eye floaters come up quickly with the former but not with these glasses i think that is because of some marginal uv escaping from the screen protectors because at the end of the day eyefloaters arent visible after taking off the glasses.
