I don't know how I missed this when it came out. How did it only gross $48 million in the States when it was released? It might have been ahead of the curve. It's better than Deadpool, just bursting at the seams with great energy, imagination and risk taking. Not to mention an unusually intricate plot for superhero movies. I felt like their backstories were stronger than typical superhero films. And it's a master class in editing and pacing. The pace never lags, and there are times that it zooms a few steps ahead of the viewer and patiently waits for us to catch up. Aaron Taylor Johnson, Chloe Grace Moritz and Mark Strong all own their roles, with Strong in particular pulling off the neat trick of being both menacing and funny. Nic Cage has his moments, though I think his stilted superhero delivery while in costume was a poor choice. What I liked best about it is it's a movie that doesn't pull its punches. Kick Ass really kicks ass and leaves you wanting more. (a shame the sequel had a different director and kind of tanked)

Chloë Grace Moretz makes up for every entitled prissy snob of a blonde bitch who you've ever had to suffer (male or female), in the media and in real life because she is really fit for this part and plays it so well. She's an icon due to her role as hit girl. If you like cheeky violent str8 edge justice figures who are not too cliche' or cumbersome and dull this chick will make the movie for you. All the realness of a kid along with the professionalism of an assassin. The girl steals the movie and 5 stars for her. The movie itself has been done many ways over so you either like it or don't, but Chloë is hit girl and you need to watch her.

Part action movie, part comedy, Kick-Ass is a riff on the super-hero genre that pokes fun and pays tribute to them at the same time. Sixteen year old Dave Lizewski can't understand why no one has ever tried to be a super-hero. Having no powers, but lot of enthusiasm, Dave sets out on his adventure. Along the way he meets Big Daddy, who sounds a lot like Adam Wests Batman, and Hit-Girl who sounds a lot like sailors I know.
This movie is like roller-coaster. One minute hilarious, the next serious. I have to say this is one of my favorite movies. Great soundtrack and score, an engaging story and plenty of action.

There is NOTHING to this movie. It stinks. "Kickass" played by Aaron somebody does a horrible Toby Maguire voice-dance-impersonation throughout; Nick Cage delivers perhaps the weakest, worst performance of his career; Mark Strong as the mafia guy is a total embarrassment; some black guy is the goodest-guy cop who imemorably comes in out of nowhere; Chloe Moretz as Hit Girl is a Jody Foster Wanabe 11 year old nothing, carried by brilliant stunt-women; and the film goes downhill from there. Needless gore, gratuitous swearing, awful and stupid plot. In the end Hit Girl "moves in," they state, with the goodest-guy black cop; is it just me, or does that sound just a tad odd?

This is one of my favorite movies. It's bold, different, and really goes against the norm which is why I found it so refresher after most stale Hollywood movies. Well directed and perfectly cast, it really delivers. Chloe Moretz steals the show obviously, but everyone really holds their own. It's based on the comic books of the same name but has a few differences which work fine for the movie.

I dunno. It's pretty good. Not sure I'd watch it multiple times, but hey. At least now I can say I watched it! Although, I do have to say this thought I had, right at the beginning of the movie:
"I like how a guy dressed up in a costume can jump off a building in New York, and everyone just starts claping, then, when it gets serious, they just get the "oh that's too bad" look like oh, that's too bad."
Other than that, it was attention grabbing enough, that I didn't really have time to comment on things in it. At least till it was over.
Not sure how Red Mist and Kick-Ass didn't recognize each others voices, but sure. It's a movie. That's how these things work

When I think of comedy, depressing content matter does not come to mind. This film has emotional highs and lows and a few laughs along the way. That's a drama. As such, it was fair. Really, parts of it depressed me. HUGE negative for me when I'm trying to kick back and relax. It wasn't that youth were violent, it was the story line itself which I won't spoil. The action scenes were the only "kick ass" part of this movie if anyone were to ask me. I don't think I bonded with characters as much as other viewers either perhaps. The acting and casting were well done though as was the script. More comedy and action and less drama would have greatly improved my viewing experience but I fully realize that's a matter of taste and I hope I'm giving a fair lowdown as to the nature of the film. Enjoy. . . the fun parts that is ;)

I loved this move around 2010-2012. After not watching it from around 2012 until 2017, it was a little rough to watch.

My appreciation for this movie is partially my nostalgia, and the rest is me enjoying it. There have been a few funny super hero type movies after Kick-Ass that did some things better/funnier, so returning to Kick-Ass seemed kind of bland.

Still, it is a solid super hero parody that still provides exceptional drama for anybody who needs a comedy/drama-parody in their lives.
