If your running more than 2 monitors on a 6900 series card you will need to use a displayport for the 3/4/5/6th monitors. In my case dual 28's and a 42 for the primary editor. The only down side of this adaptor is the 1920x1200 native res but the up side is of course price. ALL other adaptors that are active and support a higher res require a secondary power source, usually a usb leg. Also they run in th $90 range. On the other hand u can have a 1080p / 1920x1200 res with this unit for 30 bucks. Plugs in and your off to multi display your llittle heart out. Works like a charm on my 6950 2g xfx card. no drivers no nothing, plug and play.

If you would like to use this with a ATI Radeon HD 5770 on a Mac Pro, you need ALL your mini display to DVI adapters to be ACTIVE i.e. this product. Don't do what I did and buy one, and think it doesn't work, when the third monitor doesn't activate. I ended up buying 2 duel-link mini-display port adapters soon after I discovered it didn't work properly (I was using one active display adapter, and one passive one along with the DVI), then tried my Accell with a duel-link adapter, and discovered it worked. I quickly bought a second adapter, and returned the duel link adapter since they're $99 a pop. I almost gave apple $200 for an inferior product, I ended spending a little over $60 for both adapters, that ended up doing the exact same thing. Just remember, for every mini display port you have, you need active adapter if you would like more then 2 displays. Excellent product! Great price!

This adapter works with AMD/ATI HD 6870 video card for three LCDs lacking displayports (46" Samsung hdmi, 2x 21" Viewsonics dvi) using AMD Eyefinity.
I am glad to have found a less expensive solution for the maximum of two HDMI/DVI display ports on AMD/ATI new video cards.
It is really is too bad AMD/ATI won't engineer their new video cards to support both DVI and the HDMI port simultaneously.

UPDATE: Two weeks in and the adapter is still working as advertised. I am really enjoying three monitors. 1.Email 2.Media Center TV 3.Internet = Nerdvana!!

I was initially excited because with this adapter I was running three screens off an Alienware M17x R3 with an AMD Radeon HD 6970M. Within 30 minutes though, I noticed that the screen running from this adapter would randomly go black for 1-2 seconds. I read in the comments that this had happened to other people as well. I downloaded the driver update and installed it even though it said I already had the most current driver (.95). I unplugged the cord and rebooted the machine, but still have the same issues. I tried updating the driver a couple more times just to be sure, but that didn't fix anything. So it looks like I have a dud.
After researching the other AMD recommended adapters (Wieson G9858C219-006-H, Bizlink KS30015-131, and the Startech MDP2DVIS) I noticed they all have high failure rates from Amazon reviewers. Either they don't work at all, have random screen black outs, or the adapter dies within a year or two. It's obvious all of these are junk and you're lucky if you get something that keeps working for very long. I'm going to return this one and try my hand with the Gofanco? Gold Plated Mini Displayport to DVI Active Converter. It's only $18 so at least if it dies, it will be a little cheaper to replace. It's also gold plated so maybe it will make a better connection.
Update - After 4 days, the Accell adapter completely failed. Changed rating from 2 stars down to 1. Don't buy.

Let's start off by saying both AMD's (ATI)documentation and their OEM vendors documentation is terrible. I bought my Radeon 6870 with the idea that I would power 3 monitors (or more) from a single video adapter. It turns out this is completely possible as long as you have one of the *ACTIVE* Mini Displayport Adapters. (I can't stress the word *ACTIVE* enough).

Buried in the AMD support site is a helpful table that describes all of the multi-monitor configurations that are supported by these 6800 series cards. In my case, I could power two monitors on the two DVI ports, but I needed an Active Mini Displayport adapter such as this product to power an addition one.

And luckily for me, this one did the trick after I screwed-up and purchases a cheaper and non-active one. The only CON with this product is that it's kinda pricey compared to the el-cheapo passive adapters. Why only 4 stars? I wish it was less expensive.

This active adapter was great for my triple monitor set-up, until when I started my computer today. I've tried many different ways to make it working again(trying different monitors and changing the port the adapter is plugged into) but the adapter refuses to display anything else than 640x480. But I have forced a way around this by going through my driver and forcing 1920x1080 on that monitor. Just a pain to figure out but it is working fine now.

I bought two of these because my GPU has 2xminiDP outputs on the back of the unit. But after trying to configure a triple-monitor setup I learned that my graphics card (HD 7950) doesn't allow you to use both mini-DP ports at the same time for some reason (bandwidth?). So I rationalized the purchase of two by storing away the second one in case things go south with the first (will update review if that happens). Anyhow, the cable works great and EyeFinity works fine. To get the three monitors up and running i used: 1xDVI, 1xmini-DP(using this cable to convert to DVI to plug into monitor) and 1xHDMI. Only with this combination was I able to get it working. I'm getting mild, intermittent tearing on two of the monitors, but since i can't be certain it has to do with the cable itself it won't affect my review. I've read this is due to the DVI, HDMI and mini-DP ports' frequencies occasionally getting out of sync. Also, the cable is super-short (serious design flaw for 99% of people i'd imagine) you'll probably want to buy a DVI male-to-male 6ft extension so it will reach your monitor. No USB dongle for power required. Good buy for the money i suppose. PM me if you have similar hardware and have questions.
