Product Description

The Mint Automatic Floor Cleaner from Evolution Robotics is designed exclusively for sweeping and mopping hard surface floors for you. Using dry and pre-moistened cleaning cloths, Mint picks up the dust, dirt and pet hair that constantly accumulate on floors. Mint's compact design gets into tight spaces, under furniture and into other areas that are hard to reach with traditional mops and sweepers.

Guided by the NorthStar Navigation System cube, Mint tracks
where it cleans so it doesn't miss a spot (see
larger image).

The easy-to-use controls (see larger image).

Guided by the NorthStar Navigation System, Mint methodically cleans open areas by moving back and forth in straight lines, working around furniture and rugs, and cleaning along baseboards.

Mint is easy to use. Simply attach your cleaning cloth of choice, choose sweep or mop and let Mint clean for you. Since Mint is not a vacuum, there are no bins to empty or filters to replace. So you can enjoy hassle-free clean floors every day.

Intelligent Navigation

The NorthStar Navigation System works like an indoor GPS that helps Mint keep track of where it has been and where it needs to go. Specifically, the NorthStar Cube projects a signal that Mint uses to determine its location. Then as Mint starts cleaning, it builds a map of the area as it goes, marking walls, obstacles and drop offs as it encounters them. After Mint finishes cleaning open areas and around obstacles, it performs a final edge cleaning along walls and furniture and then returns to where it started so you know right where to find it.

The dry (above) and wet (below) microfiber cleaning cloths
(see
larger image).

Mint can map and clean up to 800 square feet either in a large open space or by discovering adjacent rooms. In mop mode, the cleaning area is restricted to 250 square feet to optimize cleaning while the cleaning cloth is wet.

Sweeps & Mops

Mint's dual modes let you easily maintain all your hard surface floors with one device. In Sweep mode, Mint uses a dry sweeping cloth to pick up dust bunnies, pet hair and grit from your floor. In Mop mode, Mint cleans with a pre-moistened cleaning cloth and a special back-and-forth mopping motion to pick up deeper dirt and grime. All it takes to switch modes is a fresh cleaning cloth and a press of a button.

Cleaning Cloths

Mint works with commonly available disposable cleaning cloths or with re-usable microfiber cloths. Mint's specially designed microfiber cloths can be re-washed and re-used hundreds of times. Different cloths have been developed to optimize both sweeping and mopping. Flat white microfiber cloths are ideal for attracting dust and dirt while dry sweeping. Textured grey cloths hold water and help loosen and grab deeper grime when mopping. Mint comes with a starter pack of 1 mopping and 2 sweeping cloths.

What's in the Box

Mint Automatic Floor Cleaner, NorthStar Navigation Cube with 2 C batteries, 2 dry sweeping microfiber cloths, 1 wet mopping microfiber cloth, power adapter, quick start guide, user manual. Backed by a 1 year warranty.

Care Instructions

To keep your cloths in good shape for hundreds of hours of cleaning, please follow these laundering recommendations:
  • Machine wash warm.
  • Tumble dry low or air dry.
  • Do not use fabric softener or bleach as these can degrade the cloth fibers over time.

Wet cleaning with microfibers is safe for sealed floor surfaces including tile, vinyl, laminate and sealed hardwood. Disposable pre-moistened cloths are usually safe for the same floor types, but always check the package to make sure they are safe for your floor type.

Can't live without it.

Can't live without it.
I have owned my Mint for 6 months and it's a product where i wonder, how did i live without it? I run my mint once, sometimes twice a day if i time it right and i can get a charge in between. The amount of hair and dirt of picks up is incredible. If you could literally have a person running a swiffer pad over your floors for a few hours, you can imagine all the stuff they would collect. that is essentially what the mint does. i do not use the pad that came with the mint, but instead solely use swiffer wet and dry pads. the pads get so gross after a run that i could not imagine throwing them in my washer time after time, so i just throw the swiffer pads in the trash. before the mint, if i walked barefoot around my house my feet would get dirty and black, but not anymore. that is the biggest difference i can tell, and i think thats HUGE. keep in mind i swept my floors about every other day and mop every other day too. probably more often than the average person. I also have three small dogs, two of whom shed like crazy. if my mint broke, i would buy another without hesitation. unfortunately the treading on the wheels came off last week and it stopped working. i sent it back to the manufacturer(for free, they paid the postage) and 4 days later i had it back. talk about fast! love love love my mint. definitely recommend for those with hardwood/tile floors.

This little floor cleaner exceeded my expectations. I bought one that had been returned to Amazon but was still in original packaging and had not been used. I paid $140 for it instead of the regular $200 retail, with the understanding that it still has warranty and could be returned if there was anything wrong. I have used it for 3 full battery cycles and have not had a single problem. If you want to get one, it is a good idea to read the Amazon reviews to know what it will and will not do. I agreed with the mostly 4 and 5 star reviews.

What does it do? It is an electronic dust mop, not a vacuum, which I consider a plus as the vacuum type models are noted for damaging floors. Also, a big plus is that it is completely silent except for when it lightly bumps a piece of furniture. It uses either the cloths that come with it that are machine washable or disposable Swiffer wipes that you can buy anywhere. It will also use microfiber cloths that I purchased at Bed and Bath, 10 for $7.99. They are a little large but can be folded under so the don't interfere with the center sensing track. It cleans edges and corners well as long as the corner is not too small. It goes under items very well and I love how it cleans under our king size bed. The GPS tracks very well and it has not missed a spot except where the area was too small for it to get into.

Additionally, the best surprise is how well the mopping feature works. Seriously, it does as good a job as when I do a damp mop. I doubt it would clean up really dirty or sticky areas well, but it did clean spots and left both the laminate in my kitchen and the tile in my bathroom just sparkling. It is perfect for laminate as you decide how wet you want the cloth. You can also buy a water dispenser for mopping that clips into it, but unless I had really sticky floors with little kids I doubt the average person needs that.

The advice is to clean your floors really well, which I did on Tuesday. Then you run it 2-4 times a week just to keep the floors clean. I can see this saving me many hours of cleaning and making the deep clean easier when I do have time to deep clean.

It goes around area rugs just fine.

It is my preference to do one room at a time and then reset it, so I can change the cloth. If you have it do the whole house (if your GPS cube will cover your house--mine doesn't), if you try to change the cloth it resets. Doing one room at a time makes sense for me, but others prefer to do it the other way. All you have to do is close the door or block the entry with a piece of wood or something simple.

It senses stairs, but just to be safe, they suggest a block on the stairs. It made me nervous around the stairway without a block as it looked like it went to far to be safe. It did not fall, but I don't want to risk it.

It left no spots or streaks.

Another tip is to use a light spray mist of cleaning product (I just use vinegar and water in a bottle) and prespray any area that is really dirty and/or spray lightly around the room as the cloth will get dryish toward the end of the cycle. It did my entire bathroom and kitchen before it got dryish, which is fine for me.

I give this machine 5 stars!

Pros-
Cleans well
Is silent
Easy to use
Excellent tracking
Goes under most furniture
Gets dust bunnies and pet hair superbly
I think the price is a real deal for what it does
It takes 16 hours to charge the first time and then about 8 after that
It is just perfect for floor maintenance.
It doesn't scare the dog at all.
It needs NO cleaning products at all. Water does the trick.
Quite easy to learn to use.

Cons-
It can get stuck under something but rarely (it does notify you that it is stuck)
Your GPS cube needs to be put up on a table and you need to make sure nothing
like a cupboard is above it to block the signal which bounces off the ceiling.
It won't pick up big things like chunks of paper
You do need to pick up everything off the floor or it will go around it
The sweeping cycle will go 3 hours and the mopping will go 2 before you need to charge it (not
really a con for me but some people buy 2 machines so they can do the whole house at once.
It won't deep clean a sticky mess

Several Points to make here:
(1) LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT. I'm busy taking college classes for a new degree, but there's a roommate (OMG-"Pig Pen" from Charlie Brown ?) and I have TWO large and VERY active Dogs. The LOVE to go in and out thru the doggy door (So they drag LOTS of crud back in with them ALL THE TIME) and the Boy ? He's "Curious George" (Go look for Children's Books if you don't get the reference) he just HAS to Paw, LICK & LICK & LICK and, well, Banging into things to see if they move? THAT's Pretty Fun Too. (I was REALLY WORRIED about how he would deal with this little cleaner.....)

(2) Well, the First JOY was how QUIET this little guy is. It HONESTLY is almost silent. (If you are not right on top of it ? You are not going to here ANYTHING) With ONE EXCEPTION; -- It likes to .... (Shall We Call it) likes to "Sing Lots of Little SONGS" ?? It has a "You just woke me up and I have Power" Song; a "OK, I will Start Sweeping Dry" Song; a "OK, I will Start Mopping Wet" Song; a "HEY, Im Stuck" Song and an Identical "HEY, I got Confused" Song (It sometimes sings the "Stuck" Song, but Isn't really Stuck and works it's way out and keep's going ??); it has an "HEY, I Can't Finish My Job" Song; a "HEY, I'm Running LOW on Power" Song and last, but not least, a "3 Cheer's for ME, I'M DONE" Song. The "Song's" Aren't really Loud, and if you are in the next room, or Watching TV, Listening to Music, etc. you Probably won't hear it, but Lets Just Say you don't want to try and Study with the thing in the Same Room with you ?? It's those little Electronic Beeps of various pitch (I'f you remember the Very First IBM PC's (back in the 80's ?) that had that mechanical Beeping sounds ? Like That. It's No IPod - LOL

BEST OF ALL ?? It's So Quiet, My Boy Dog (Remember, Mr. Curious About Everything?) BASICALLY IGNORES IT ! ! ! ! ! I was Totally SHOCKED. I don't think I would want to leave him Loose in the House with the thing running and Go Somewhere, but If I'm ANYWHERE at home, He Ignores it. YIPPEE ! ! ! ! I KNOW a "Roomba", etc. would have him over there trying to figure out what it was, and such, and he might even consider those a threat and try to bit them, but the MINT, he just Ignores it.

(3) Did I mention this little MINT Does GREAT JOB ?? ! ! ! ! Well, IT DOES. The CLAIMS About it's EDGE CLEANING are TRUE, Does the Room then goes back and just runs the perimeter and catches all the edges. (ONE Piece of "Well, DUH" Advice) If you "THINK" About this, it's a "Well, DUH" thing, but it just didn't occur to me the First Time I ran Him. (Yes, this is in the Instructions, SOMEWHERE, I was reading as he cleaned and came across it about the time he was done, IT'S NOT THE FIRST THING YOU WILL FIND) **USE A DRY CLOTH ** F * I * R * S * T **, **THEN** Change it over to the WET Cloth and let it Mop..... WOW, the Dust Bunnies and dust, etc will Clog up that Wet Cloth in a HEART BEAT. The Mint Comes in the Box with some of it's own reusable pads, 2-Dry & 1-Wet, but I found some Swiffer Pre-Wet Mopping Pads that had Febreeze in them, they House LOOKED GREAT *and* SMELLED JUST AS GREAT when I was done.

TODAY, I GOT INVENTIVE: House is Nearly 100% Original Hardwoods and while they looks REALLY GREAT for their age, they Definitely Could Benefit from some Sprucing Up. I had previously purchased several items from the "BONA" Hardwood Cleaning System. (they have a Cleaner, Polish, Sealer, etc. as well as their own pads and a swiffer like broom/mop/wand thing to spread it all around), I just had not gotten around to using it yet. Told MINT'y to do a quicky dry sweep on an area I wanted to test (about 10' x 20' section of floor) and pulled out the MINT's Own Wet/Mop Reusable Pad (The Bona Pads wouldn't fit it) and put the BONA Polish on the MINT PAD and LET 'er RIP. -- All I Can Say is, WOW. OK, Part of that is going to be BONA being "Good Stuff" but the MINT wasn't even really designed to do this and it did a FANTASTIC JOB.

Best Part? Because it's Computerized it put a PERFECTLY EVEN COAT down Everywhere and because it is just the weight of the machine on the pad as it runs around the PRESSURE of Application was the Same Everywhere. (Point Being, Most of the Variables that make a "Do it yourself" job on the floors were eliminated by using the MINT. It Looks Fantastic. (TOMORROW? ANOTHER ROOM ! ! ! )

(4) OK, I DID Feel just a Little Silly, Sitting there WATCHING this little machine sweep and wipe my floors. (It's Supposed to SAVE YOU TIME, not be "Entertainment"- LOL) But Once You Learn How Far it can go on a Pad before you need to change it out, or how much of the room it can do before finishing and returning back to its starting point (and singing the "I'm DONE" Song and How LONG that Takes (Give or Take a Few Minutes), then You ARE Ready for, "SET IT AND FORGET IT" Operation, REALLY.

(5) Things that They COULD IMPROVE ?

Well, Roomba has this thing they call a "Virtual Wall" where you can set your house up in Sections and using these little transmitters tell their device to consider "THIS POINT" to be a wall, even when it Isn't.

MINT REALLY NEEDS THIS FEATURE: It's Basic Programming tells it to clean up to 1,000 sq/ft for dry sweeping and 250 sq/ft for wet moping. (PERSONALLY ? I found the wet cloth's were drying out WELL BEFORE MINT would stop with it's 250') but even if you don't have this issue part of the nature of these little helpers is you do a section, then set it up again and set it loose on a New Area...... So .... Where Did It STOP ? ? ? ? ? (OOPS, Problem) I will Admit that the device returning to it's starting place and Powering Down when It's Done is NEAT-O. --- But when it Does That, you Don't Know Where It STOPPED ! ! ! ! ! (ARRGGHHH) So just like when you Vacuum, You DIVIDE THE HOUSE UP INTO SECTIONS, and Clean One At A Time. (TRUST ME, Moving Furniture Around and trying to set things in the Way to Create a "Fake Wall" is a BIG PAIN IN THE BUTT. (This Weekend, I'm going to try and devise some easy little things I can move from room to room to make Fake Physical Walls) Something the size of a 2 x 4 would do the Job **BUT** it has to be HEAVY ENOUGH so MINT Can't Just Push It. It's Actually Pretty Darned Strong, (You Should Have Seen the Faces On My DOGS When it started pushing their Food Bowls Around the room one time. LOL)

They say you can Use MULTIPLE "North Star CUBES" which help Mint Navigate. It can move from One room to the Next and when it See;'s the New CUBE, It it is Closer than the other one, MINT Switches over to using The New One (COOL) Since the MINT LINKS & LOCKS (Their Words) to the CUBE, I'm kind of doubting That You Could Use MULTIPLE MINTS with Single, or Multiple, CUBES ?? Now In TOTALLY Different Rooms where they would never "See" Each Other ? SURE, but I don't think you could have Two close to each other. (Living Room is a LONG--- Shotgun Room. Takes about 3 turns to clean it. Would be GREAT to put a CUBE at Each End and just Turn 2 of these Guys LOOSE in there and see what they do.) But I doubt it would work.

OH, WELL, OVERALL, I am THRILLED with this little cleaner and I can have a **MUCH** Cleaner House and MUCH BEtTER SMELLING HOUSE TOO, with Little, to No Effort.

10-THUMBS UP ! ! !

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this machine!!
Reviewed in Canada on October 2, 2013
I have the roomba for vaccuuming and felt ultra lazy ordering this. But I have to say that this is one of my favorite products ever. First off, it's quiet - my friends tease me about my "stealth cleaning machine." So when I'm "mopping," I don't even notice as the machine is virtually silent. Secondly, I have found that using wet swifter cloths are the most effective. They fit well and get the job done. All in all, I would highly recommend this machine :)
