Looks
Boxy but looks impressive, looks more like a receiver then a speaker. Also the lower band displaying REFERENCE adds to the impression that it is a high quality product. A little heavy but I believe heavier the better as it cancels out any vibrations or turbulence. Take the grills off and everything oozes quality.

Sound Quality
This is replacing Klipsch RVX-42 which itself was a great speaker, my favorite klipsch till now but RC-52 II contains 5.25" woofers compared to 4 inch woofers in RVX-42. So although the midrange is still the same as RVX-42, the biggest difference is the male voices which appears stronger and chestier with RC-52 II. I had always wanted to buy RC-52 but the tapered array technology dual crossovers balked me every time as although a great idea, dual crossovers resulted in interference.

Since 90% of dialogues in a movie come through center channel and most people crossover their system at 80hz, With RC-52 II I get everything. Chestier heavier voices with a woofer small enough compared to 6.5 and 8 to be very responsive and a crossover low enough 1600Hz that there is no gap between midrange and treble. Although I cannot comment on the off axis performance, On axis the highs are smooth and detailed and match my RVX-42s fronts very well. Also there is no noticeable port-boom which is a good thing.

In my opinion, it is better than RC-62s as it has smaller woofers and anything lower than 80Hz anyways goes to the subwoofer. Unless somebody is power hungry or bass crazy or have a very big room, this is perfect as a center channel whether you are pairing up with any bookshelves or the smaller towers in the Klipsch reference Lineup.

We are a family of gizmos, gadgets and *a lot* of A/V equipment. We have fairly discerning ears. We just added this speaker to our family room. We purchased it "Used - Like New" off of Amazon for $215 and are very pleased with the purchase. The vocal clarity and overall tone that comes from this unit is perfect for a mid-range 5.1 setup. It looks and feels like a well made unit, and most of all brings a great center channel experience to your surround sound setup.

For anyone new to 5.1 surround sound, here are a few insights that might be helpful. Generally speaking, there are three categories of sound involved with 5.1. The first is the dialogue in the movie. For the most part, dialogue is delivered through your center channel speaker. This is why getting a nice center channel is important. A large part of enjoying movies is being able to hear what the characters say in a clear manner, even when there are explosions and such going on in the scene. A nice center channel should deliver dialogue that feels authentic, easy to hear and is coming from the center of your room.

The second category is special effects/movie soundtrack. This is mainly where your front speakers and rear speakers come into play. Those four speakers work together to "surround" you with sound effects that create an atmosphere / mood for the scene. They also can provide the "movement" of sound. For example, if a car races from left to right in a scene the sound passes from the left speakers to the right.

The last category is the ".1" in 5.1. This is often called "low frequency effect", or LFE. This is the ultra-deep sound tones that will be passed to your subwoofer. Your subwoofer is responsible for adding that rumble or deep bass effect that you hear when things explode, pound , crash or thump.

Since replacing my home theater in a box center channel with the RC-52 II, I have noticed that I watch movies now at 25% lower volume than i used to. Everything is so crisp and clear. Voices are stronger and more vibrant. I was thrown back by the loudness of this center channel on my first movie viewing. It was very loud on my normal volume setting however it still maintained a clear and smooth sound.

I love this speaker and it definitely puts my other speakers to shame. I'm working on upgrading the fronts and the surrounds soon with more reference speakers from Klipsch.

Overall, the RC-52 II alone has greatly improved my movie experience. I highly recommend the RC-52 II or any of the other Reference series Center Channels Klipsch offers to anyone who is building a new home theater.

Not sure if paying extra for the next generation Reference series (II) with new crossovers is worth it, but you cannot argue with the quality and performance. I'm using this center in conjunction with RF-52 II and RS-41 II speakers as a 5.1 system. Using a Blu-Ray sound source gives an unbelievable theater experience. The center provides crisp clear dialogue and nice deeper tones from the 5.25" woofers. It really is a nice combination of performance and value.

This unit has everything I wanted in a center channel. It sounds great and it looks even better. Adding this speaker to my system made me realize that the center channel is the most important speaker for TV and movies. Even my less-savvy guests have commented that the sound is great. No longer do I need to constantly adjust the volume between action scenes and dialogue scenes.

More info: I matched this center channel with a pair of Klipsch RF-42 II floor speakers. I'm driving these 3 beasts with a Denon AVR S500BT connected to my Xbox One. I use my Xbox to watch shows and movies from Netflix, DVD, BluRay, and of course play games. Once I figured out how to configure the Denon and Xbox for multichannel audio, everything has worked like a dream.

Make sure to balance this guy with the rest of your speakers. Initially it was very loud, but I ran the setup wizard on my Denon AVR and it sounds beautifully now.

Also, take note of the dimensions on the cabinet. It is actually rather large IMO and I had a hard time incorporating it into my TV console. There is an adjustable foot to angle the speaker up which can add some extra height as well. I ended up building a custom shelf with some scrap wood (see photo).
