I opted to buy this because I like the reporter style (flip) --- it folds up and over and is not open like a book. A case that opens like a book is, in my opinion, inconvenient and hard to hold. This flip case is just about perfect. The leather is rich and even has that leather smell. It's made well, very sturdy. And yes, it does indeed stand up if you desire it to stand up. Moreover, it's easy to open and close and to read with. The latch is strong and well-built. The case has a good feel in the hands and it certainly protects your Kindle.
So why did I give it four instead of five stars? Simply put, I detest the fact it has pockets for bills and cards. Few people would need or want to use this as a wallet and I'm sure they carry their bills and cards elsewhere. What's more, I suspect the plastic in the cards would easily scratch the screen of the Kindle. I sure wouldn't want to chance it. It would be better if that part was left flat. I simply use it as it is and it's fine. Manufacturers try to make too many products multi-purpose at the expense of usefulness. Other than that, this case is great and I highly recommend it.
I open this with saying I have had my Kindle 3 since New Years 2011 give or take a few. I have tried cases, skins and even those plastic rubber grip things but there seemed to be a large problem, the cases were either trading security of the device (IE Protection from the Human Element) for weight or they were heavy and looked "plastic like"
I just recently got NEW!! The SimpleLight for Amazon Kindle 6" (Latest, 3rd Generation), No Batteries Needed, Attaches to Kindle, Blackand was looking for a non book style case for my kindle, I saw this one at 11 dollars and tax and couldn't believe my luck having bought a rooCASE for my Zune HD. There have been complaints about quality, I can't tell you if it's real leather, I can tell you it feels, smells and looks real....I will leave any further finger pointing about materials for chemist and picky reviewers.
I will also say the snap close really snaps and that it closes and opens fine with my SimpleLight attached so that now I have everything in one place and ready to go for travel doctors appointments, etcetera. It feels strong, you are not holding some simple piece of material here it is solid, the corners hold well but there is material over the elastic at the top that keep the weight off the device on on the strap...like a bracing system. Ingenious design...the bottom corners are solid pieces but smaller and much less noticeable than the ones I have seen in my experience.
In summation I will say though I have had many cases this is by the far the best, for those that go on about standing, holding a book is part of the pleasure and if that don't work make a stand or use something. This is a high quality low price deal. I highly recommend it!
Just received my flip top Roo case and was excited to use it. Disappointment soon set in. Like previous reviewers have said, it doesn't stand up on it's own. You need to have something to prop it against. I chose this one for that feature so I will be sending this back and ordering the "book syle". If I can't stand it up, I'd prefer one that opens like a book. I do love the material that it is made of and the slots for money and credit cards. This is why I will order the other one.
I am very pleased with the rooCase Flip (blk). The disign is easy functionality. I love holding each side as I use the Kindle key board with my thumbs. Its easy to carry and has a sleek design look. Its triangular stand when you snap it while open makes a wonderful reading stand. Holding it with one hand is easy and I don't find it tiring because its light weight. I reccomend to anyone loving the flip design.
I love this case. It is made of real leather, not pleather as many kindle cases are. The document pockets and card slots are very useful, a perfect place for my student ID and library card. The case holds the Kindle securely and is sturdy enough to offer decent protection without being heavy. I love how easy it is to read this case one handed. It is easy to access all the Kindle's buttons and features. The magnetic clasp is a great touch and keeps it closed when it should be. Kindle owners that also put a vinyl skin on their Kindle should know that the straps that secure the upper corners may slightly mar and scuff the vinyl skin, as it did to mine. This is hardly an issue and only applies if you have a vinyl skin on your Kindle. Great buy.
I purchased this case as a gift for Christmas for my wife, who was unexpectedly also getting a Kindle too. The case offers more than just protection for the Kindle, but also has credit card holders, billfold, and a place for your id. My wife enjoys the Kindle, and this case with one exception; the secure tab (the leather flap that has a button on it to secure the case when not in use) gets in the way because of where it is positioned. Even if she was to turn the Kindle around, it would still be annoying just dangling there... besides that, it is a good product. If you or the person you are buying it for don't get easily distracted by things dangling near your reading material, this case should be a good place to start in protecting your Kindle investment.
I had become so bored at work, I had started looking for a new job - then the economy hit bottom and I hung on to what I had. Kindle has give me a new lease on life at work. The way my station is arranged, I can put up the flip case without easily being seen and read as much as I want in between my computer work or phone calls. This I could not do with a paperback. If it seems someone might come too close, it is simple too flip the back over, and the case looks like a professional, leather personal calendar or something along those lines. In a nut shell, the kindle allows readers to read, basically anywhere, and when closed is a well protected, small, attractive leather case.
