[The Creative Software can be glitchy at times as the speaker configuration will auto switch from 2.1 speakers to headphones even when the 2.1 speakers are the only device plugged into the Sound Card. However, in the Sound Card's, volume Control Panel, the driver shows that the 2.1 Speakers are selected. This may just be a visual glitch and not performance related.]
My laptop has a low quality on-board sound card that does not make use of bass and when watching movies, there is no equalizer in place. As such I purchased the X-fi Go! Pro, this came with the extra sound options. My speakers are the old Creative Inspire T-3000, 2.1 system (possibly a 10 year old speaker system). I was able to plug these into the USB card and the software made full use of the bass, etc.
I live in the college dorms and now every time the building gets together, they come to me as I seem to be the only person with an external sound card. Everyone uses laptops here and the on-board sound just does not cut it. We went from watching movies that make use of heavy bass/loud sounds with an on-board card that does not transmit any of those qualities through speakers, to the USB sound card that transmits all the qualities.
This is not the first Creative sound card that I have purchased, I own two other's a Creative Sound blaster for the desktop and the Sound blaster Audigy SE for the desktop. Then the Speakers are the Inspire T-3000 2.1
I gave the rating 4 out of 5 stars, the removed star is based on the company's (Creative Labs) product support is somewhat poor, I had to use Google to find out what the definitions for some of the options in the Software Entertainment Console meant.
I use it to sing karaoke online through my laptop. It has a good reverb separately for microphone (micFX), and several reverbs that are equally useful for music/wave audio-(EAX). I use it every day to sing and play my guitar, or sing off karaoke videos online, or saved karaoke songs in my laptop.
Pretty cheap and good quality for a portable usb sound card. I can plug it into any computer with a usb to use. It is more convenient than an internal sound card. I no longer use an internal sound card or have a desktop. I choose it for convenient to just be able to plug into my laptop and sing right away.
I broke 3 or maybe 4 now through my own fault for standing up while the headphone is still plugged into the usb sound card which kept on getting bent until it starts to lose sound, crack, or not function as it should anymore. I bought roughly ten of these used and new on Amazon, and they all worked great. They stopped working because I kept standing up and break them. I still bought more. That's how much I like/find useful/convenient with these sound cards. I'm on my 4th one now within the last four years. I sing and play guitar for more than 6 hours almost everyday, more on the weekends or days off. I gave the extra cards to friends to help them get started, and I plan to buy more.
As far as I know, there're only 2 or 3 creative sound cards that have micFX(reverb/echo for microphone). This usb being one. I don't think the others are available anymore, For me the micFX is a must when I'm singing. It gives some reverb to vocal. MicFX to me is the most important reason to buy this sound card. The other is that it's convenient, and cheappp...heeh. I do not want to plug in my $500 mackie or Health Allen mixer just to sing when I can simply use this and start singing right off.
I can go on, but to me this has been the most useful sound card. I can focus on my music more. I hope the info helps, have fun!
After all that, the software was installed including Alchemy which is how I suspected they were deriving their EAX support. No big deal, I didn't expect an actual hardware implementation in this little thing.
Anyhow, that was all great except... The sound no longer worked. The Xfi go pro was errored out in device manager. I tried uninstalling and updating a few times to no avail. What worked was letting windows do a driver rollback. Then the xfi was working properly and the Alchemy software was still active. There is only one odd glitch and that is I can no longer adjust the volume level. I tried with the mode switch in speaker and headphone mode. Neither windows nor the creative Volume Panel can lower the volume from 100%.
I am giving up for now...

While I was able to use the device on both O/S's listed, the input audio was always clipped regardless of the mic level setting set by the O/S. Unfortunately, as there is (also) no software for this device (software is Windoze-only), there was no way to fix the clipping of recorded audio (same issue on Linux and OS-X).
I'd hoped to use this on my MacBook Air to record my vinyls (via Audacity) to lossless (FLAC) as there is no audio input on MBA's.
Since I don't use Windoze, I cannot speak for how well the device would perform for this endeavour (or any other purpose).
Returned.
Now the reason I got this one is because I had issues with an old PC desktop running on XP. The sound ports weren't working and obviously I wanted sound so my last option was to use a usb sound card. (Motherboard was for AGP sound cards lol so that was a no go).
I had a spare HyperX usb sound card that worked, but I couldn't adjust the sound (probably XP incompatibility). When I saw that this one was compatible with windows XP I gave it a shot and dam I wasn't disappointed.
Sound quality is amazing and literally destroys my HyperX (sound levels taken into account). Plugged my Sony headphones into the X-Fi go and my ears simply melted. I could hear every small bit of detail in Alien versus predator 2. Game is old, but still holds up in terms of atmosphere and gameplay. Not much else my XP tower can play anyways lol.
Apparently this dongle works with a PS4, but I haven't tried it. It comes with a usb adapter thing so technically it would fit into a Playstation usb port. Plus it also comes with a 3.5mm mic/headphone splitter so any PC headset should work with this.
Pros:
-amazing sound
-decent price
-works with XP
Cons:
-cable is short, but you can get a longer one if needed
After going to an audiophile friend's house and trying different equipment/headphones/computer settings, the noise was still there. The only thing that solved it was to turn the computer's volume up significantly, in which case I think the other frequencies coming through wind up masking the noise. I thought I was going to have to return it. But I found a solution: buy a $7 inline volume control for my earbuds, crank my computer's volume up to 100%, and turn the sound down through the inline control. Voila - no more noise! The sound is quite good now that the problem is fixed.
So just a warning: if you're listening at low computer volume to anything where bass frequencies are clearly audible, you'll get a buzz from the X-Fi Go. The aforementioned friend said that may be something Creative fixes with a new driver in the future, but until then you'll have to find a way to deal with it.
