If you are already using two monitors with your video card (vga&dvi or dvi&dvi or hdmi&dvi, etc) and you would like to add another monitor, this will not work. You need an active adapter (can be had for about $30, try the Accell B087B-005B). To my understanding, this is because

"video cards can generate only 2 TMDS (See Wikipedia) signals at once, which is what DVI needs. Just what I wanted, but I have dual-mode Displayport (++D)

This cable only works with dual-mode DisplayPort. The logo on the port should have two plus signs stacked to the left of the D. It will be useless with single-mode DisplayPort. Since I knew this I am pleased with my purchase.

The cable is sturdy but flexible enough to relieve strain. The DVI side accepts the screws from a terminal cable. The DisplayPort side has a latch mechanism with a button to release the latch.

Leave the DVI unscrewed if you don't want to test the strength of your laptop's DisplayPort when you grab the laptop without releasing the DisplayPort plug first.

WikiPedia says that, by 2013, DisplayPort will replace VGA and will be preferred over DVI. It is time to add this cable to the collection.

My employer loaned me an HP EliteBook 8650p. It has one VGA port and one DisplayPort (not a mini-DisplayPort.) With this cable I can drive one VGA monitor and one DVI monitor. This EliteBook can only drive two displays, so I have to disable the laptop screen to use two external monitors.

Also, with the option of either VGA or DVI, I can drive the unused DVI port on a monitor that has both inputs and a "select" button. This is handy at home: My home laptop sits to the left of the monitor and drives VGA. My work laptop sits to the right of the monitor and drives DVI. One press of the "select" button gives me more real-estate for either laptop. But I still get confused when I fling the cursor toward the monitor and it disappears; I have to remember to push select...

Solid adapter that I use with my HP laptop docking station.

I bought two of these when my work laptop was replaced. The docking station of the HP laptop has two Display Port (not to be confused with HDMI port) adapters that I wanted to use with the two Dell monitors that I have.

The two Dell monitors support only VGA and DVI, so I bought two of these adapter along with two DVI cables. The DVI cables that I bought to work with this were "C2G / Cables to Go 26911 DVI-D Male/Male Dual Link Digital Video Cable,Black(2 Meter/6.56 Feet)" and they seem to work fine.

Sometimes one of my two Dell monitors goes dark for no apparent reason, and I have to wiggle the monitor a little to get it tow work again. This is probably not a fault of this adapter and it may just be that the Dell monitor is about to need its power supply electrolytic capacitors replaced.

Supports 1280 x 800 resolution max

This adapter only supports 1280 x 800 resolution for me. That's less than the resolution on my 14" laptop screen, and is totally useless for a 30" monitor.

Other passive adapters in the same price range support full WUXGA resolution, which is 1920 x 1200. Hence the two stars for this one. But for full support of WQXGA resolution, which is 2560 x 1600, you'll need to spend closer to $100 for an active adapter. Make sure it states what resolution it supports, since some adapters in the same price range as this one are sold as "active," but won't support WQXGA resolution.

Works just as well as the HP brand for under $10.00

When I was looking for a proprietary DisplayPort adapter for my computer I was really hoping that this cable would work and I wouldnt have to pay more than $20.00 for the HP branded version.

In case any of you are hesitating on purchaing this due to it not carrying the actual HP brand name, don't worry, this cable seems very well put together, and it works like a charm. There is nothing spectauclar about this cabe in comparison to the hP branded one, the cable itself is a bit thinner than the HP branded one. So I am thinking that it will have less electrical interferance protection, however, due to the length of this cable, unless your running an elctromagnet nearby you won't have an issue.

I saw no display degridation from this cable, nor did I have trouble with the connection from the video card, it snaps into place, just like it should.

My opinion, if you like your money and don't want to waste it, grab this cable. It works, comes in a padded envelope and had a good build quality. Enough said.

Bought it for $8.10 from seller hushgamer. Order was fulfilled by Amazon and used Free Super Saver Shipping as part of another order. I could not find a better price at the usual places. Great quality. Works without issue.

I wanted to set up a dual display at home without buying a docking station. The HP 8540p laptop has a VGA and a DisplayPort output. The screens are AOC 23" LED monitors that take either a VGA or a DVI-D input.

Only one catch, probably laptop specific. When I power up the laptop from off state, I cannot have the DisplayPort connected. This is important because my laptop needs an encryption password before it boots the OS. It seems that Win 7 on my laptop does not load Displayport drivers till the system boots up. Mostly I don't power down my laptop as it has SSD. But, in case I do, then at power up I make sure that either no external display is connected initially, or only VGA one is.
