When I upgraded from iPhone 3 to 4, the 3.5mm AUX jack hookup to my 2008 BMW's sound system went from perfect to having overwhelming background noise. The Bluetooth for music play and other non-telephone connectivity is expected everywhere now--- but my car's audio only accommodates phone calls through the Bluetooth and still needs the wire for any other audio input. The automotive message boards were all generally clueless and I actually had to Google the images of cables with 3.5 mm jacks until I found something that physically appeared to possibly address the problem. This was necessary because the problem described in text was not yielding any rational results. I did find the solution mentioned on a BMW message board about a ground loop isolator but the writer presented the solution as a complicated install with multistep hardware intervention-- Hardly the simple plug-and-play solution this turned out to be. Even the BMW dealers were fairly clueless about this solution and were of no help. I guess this is becoming an orphan problem as full Bluetooth connectivity is becoming the norm and cables are becoming a thing of the past.

I bought two of these to use with a sound table & a laptop that was serving as an FX rack. One ground loop isolator was plugged into the cables connecting the sound table's FX Send channel to the FX laptop's external mic plug, & the other isolator was plugged into the laptop's earphone plug & isolated the ground noise in the signal going into the sound table's FX Return channel. I had them solidly placed, where they wouldn't be moved or jarred, & secured them with tape, making extra-sure there was no stress on the jacks, nor on the plugs; at no time were they ever disturbed after I installed them, except to test what happened in their absence. After setting the isolators up, they worked just fine, cancelling the loud ground loop feedback produced by the FX laptop's AC adaptor ... for all of about 3 & 1/2 weeks. Then all of a sudden, one isolator lost the R. channel sound, and instead of killing the ground loop noise, the noise became twice as bad than without the isolator. Yes, I double-checked that the isolators' inputs & outputs were connected properly (this ain't my first rodeo, btw). I posted a return to Amazon (thank you). Three days later, the other isolator does the same thing. I'm returning it now as I write this. I'm disappointed, because PAC came across highly rated by other users of their products. To be fair, the isolators DID cancel the noise produced by the FX laptop---while they worked, that is; they just didn't last.

Also removes the majority of low frequencies. Which is to be expected from an unpowered 1:1 transformer. Useful for listening to talk radio over the 3.5mm jack without the buzzing and noise.

As other have said, I was getting a terrible whine when using a Bluetooth adapter, when plugged into the Aux input on both of my cars. I have never tried any of these devices before but I can tell you that the whine was GONE after plugging this in. The audio quality was still very nice but does seem shaped a little different with this unit.
I heard a little more base and a little less treble when I used this. I just adjusted the treble on the receiver a notch to correct.
Also...I do not know if it is because of this unit or the Bluetooth device but the 3.5mm jack was a little loose. I had to tie it down a with a Velcro strap in order to hold the jack in the connection port. Before tying it down, the loose connection made it sound like everything was underwater.

Overall, I am pleased enough that I am now getting another one for my other car.

Let me first say that this product does kill interference noise and whines. However it also kills volume too. I wanted to use this item to kill ignition noise in my helmet speakers for my motorcycle. The problem is that the use of this filter completely negates the use of my amplifier (and then some) with the filter output (with amp active) having less volume than the direct output from the mp3 player, and renders the output inaudible if I use only the mp3 player and filter. Bottom line: I'm not at all happy with it.

On edit: Got a helpful tip and am much happier with the results leading me to change my rating. With the changes to the series of components the cords are now much too long. Time for the soldering iron! Much happier now!

At first this worked as expected. Then it started producing bad sound and then no sound. In a matter of a few weeks, not decades. This is just a transformer with some wires so there is no excuse.

When I upgraded to the iPhone 4S from the iPhone 4, my car stereo started producing a lot of noise when hooked up via the AUX cable - especially noticeable when listening to audio books. I tried buying a really nice gold-plated audio cable, and several other remedies recommended by Apple Care, but nothing worked. I did some research on the internet and came across this Ground Loop Isolator. I received it today - hooked it up - and ALL of the noise is gone! I do not notice any deterioration in sound quality.

Bottom Line: I would absolutely recommend this product to anyone who wants to eliminate noise from their 3.5mm standard audio connection.

When installed according to manufacturer instructions base response is reduced to zero, along with all low frequencies. While the wine was eliminated, audio quality is reduced so drastically that even podcasts are unlistenable.
