This movie is really nuts. Nuttier than a fruitcake, and none of the cast could possibly take their roles seriously. The opening setting is on Mars Base Two. It is called Mars Base Two because a focus group thought it sounded better than Mars Base One. They are not alone on the planet, and several get attacked, and in fighting back, kill the attacker. The dialogue goes like this: Q. How’s the rocket launcher guy? A. He’s dead Steve. Real dead. You get the idea. It is super low budget, and the personnel of the base are either supervisors or support staff, but really no one to do the work. Lisa, one of the persons is like a super uptight HR person making sure that the company protocols are followed to the letter, regardless of what is happening. One cannot do anything that is not in the manual. This is the type of movie that MST3000 would have a lot of fun with. Probably any decent high school acting class could put together a movie like this if they were given enough rope. Some juvenile humor, and to make things even clearer, the company has set up censorship in all communications, so naughty words are automatically bleeped. I wonder if a lot of this movie was made up as they went along. It is entertaining.
This is a comedy, in outer space. I had thought it might be a bad horror flick, but found out real quickly, it wasn't. It had sort of a Ed Wood vibe to it. A low budget movie that poked fun at all sorts of things, and had an understated, intelligence to some of the humor. Even the parts when you watch a news broadcast, if you watch the scrolling words on the bottom, you see some rye/dry humor too. You might only care to watch it once, unless you are thee type who likes to spot little mistakes, find a Easter egg or two in the film. Or to pick out the less than obvious details within a film/this film… I actually found that I liked this movie more than I thought I would. It's worth watching, at least once. I would like to add too, that I do like the thing Amazon does with showing the cast of a movie, and a little bio about them. Also enjoy the "Trivia" part, which shows mistakes made and when you can find them. Or they point out little mistakes or factual errors. I really enjoy that little extra, just a shame that some don't have them, or are incomplete, like no pictures at all. But it is a nice touch. Thanks
First off, this is a comedy. Low budget (very simple sets), more along the lines of "Office" meets "Red Dwarf". There are a few good jokes in it. Think of a business office on mars, where everyone seems to be some kind of manager exec, and all they do is give orders, but none of them has any idea what's really going on. People are dying and the managers are only worried about the paperwork and the companies reputation.
There are a couple of quick shots of upper nudity on women, and some profanity. There are a few shots of (unrealistic) blood and gore. I don't want to give too much away story wise. I doubt you would watch this more than once, so rent it on a slow night. It is what it is.
I felt bad for the girl who had to get naked and then they off'ed her two minutes into the movie.... I really liked the score, that was very well done... I think they used a quality camera... But otherwise, this movie draaaags in the middle... there are loads of flat, sterile shots, as well as flat sterile acting... I have to give them HUGE props for using practical effects. That was very nice, and next to the score, was the highlight of the movie... But the lackluster plot (it should have been about the twist, instead of meandering around waiting to get to the twist) and the weak acting ultimately drag this film down.
This one could easily become a cult classic. It's about a company called Interplanetary that runs what's supposed to be the only space base on Mars. But when two Interplanetary researchers come across a fossil in a cage, they soon find out that they're not the only ones on the red planet. This movie is full of good things. It's very low budget and takes huge advantage of that. Rather than depict the future as something somber and serious, this movie lets the characters be very down-to-earth and human. Right at the start we're treated to the sight of Michelle, the space nympho, wandering around nude but for a fishbowl-shaped space helmet, looking for someone to perform the "docking maneuve." There's a mechanic named Beth who always carries a bag of pot around with her—Space Pot! And there's a wicked looking alien on the loose to. A lot of people compare the comedy in this movie to The Office, and it's a very good comparison. Also, there's no effort to conceal the fact that this movie must have been made in the South. Heavy accents all around.
I had read several good reviews of this movie (and one bad one), so I thought I'd give it a try. I wished I'd spent the money on something else. If they were trying to make a dumb, low-budget 50's movie for Elvira to make fun of, they succeeded. It really looks old, bad video transfer, reel-change marks, cheesy effects and all. Nothing new or original here, nothing you haven't seen before, and done better. Save your money, I wish I had...
Low budget, high school film club production values, and nobody you have ever heard of for cast, and yet still a great deal of fun to watch. I wish this production team well on future projects because they understand how to entertain.
Plot. 9 people working for the Interplanetary Corp live and work on mars. It's all very boring for them until one day they are attacked. The film begins with an artifact find and murders then goes into a 60s type advert for Mars Base 2. We then see the people who work on the base including a few topless scenes. It's a mixed bunch of folks. Things get interesting when a rocket attack kills a worker. This is a Sci-Fi mystery flick. Slow paced with various nods to the famous space type flicks of the past. We have to wait for the last act to see a fair amount of blood and gore when the alien monster causes mayhem. I thought it was quite an entertaining and fun view for a low budget sci-fi with horror. It's well written with some amusing scenes and dialogue but it's all taken seriously. Not as good as the director's last flick Hide & Creep [DVD] [2004] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC] but that was a total horror fun flick with zombies. (Was released twice with a better version and extras on the re-releasse) Extras include a com and trailers. USA Release but plays Region zero.
