Vetiver, a member of the grass family, is grown for many reasons. Unlike other grasses, the root system of Vetiver grows down, making it ideal for helping to prevent erosion and providing soil stabilization. Vetiver has a rich, exotic, complex aroma that is used extensively in perfumes. Due to Vetiver’s calming, grounding effect on the emotions, it is an ideal oil to use in massage therapy. It can also be rubbed on the feet before bedtime to promote a restful night’s sleep. When taken internally, Vetiver can support a heathy immune system. Add 1–2 drops to tea or hot drinks during winter time to promote immune-supporting properties. Use as a massage oil to calm emotions. Take a warm bath with a few drops of Vetiver essential oil for deep relaxation. Diffuse with Lavender, doTERRA Serenity, or doTERRA Balance to calm emotions and lessen stress. Use a toothpick to help get the desired amount out of container if Vetiver is too thick to get out of the bottle. A little goes a long way.

This is a great product. It took a couple of days to work, but it does work. I have a problem with OCD and ADD (undocumented), and I noticed that at 30-60 minutes after assimilation of this oil, little things do not bother me so much. This product is a Godsend if you're driving or working on the computer or doing intricate things that of themselves can drive you crazy. Now, I know the world's not going to end if something falls on the floor and I don't pick it up right away. The cans don't all have to be alphabetized in the cupboard, and the silverware and dishes don't have to be lined up like soldiers in formation. It's a relief, really, not to have to sweat the small stuff sometimes, so I apply two or three drops to the backs of my hands and my forehead. I really needed something other than a prescription because, being Irish, I was prone to losing my temper easily, which is not so good for your immune system. "A fool shows his anger at once," so says the Proverbs, and sometimes the stresses of modern life can get to you.
I will never run out of this oil now that I know about it. Truly remarkable. I have high confidence in the doTerra brand and that is my exclusive brand from now on. Highly recommended. I can't wait to try their serenity blend.
I can swear this product actually makes me stay more focused on the task at hand instead of starting several small projects at once and hardly finishing them. The aroma of Vetiver is definitely woodsy, musky and deep, but not mildewy or odiferous like say, Valerian root. Way too expensive to vaporize, apply it directly to your Chakra zones for best effect.
I will say that whomever votes this unhelpful, you need it the most, my friend.
My first essential oil purchase, I decided to try the very pricy but premium by reputation doTERRA Vetiver Oil. All of the other Vetiver Oil brands I looked at specified "external use only". The doTERRA actually has directions for how to ingest their product. While I don't personally plan to try that, it indicated a high level of product refinement.
I'm trying it out to see if it helps with scar mitigation after hand surgery last March, and it has a unique scent and a camphor like feel on the skin. An article that got me to look into Vetiver was describing an expensive cologne it's used in (Le Labo Vetiver 46) as "smelling like Clark Gable" or "smelling like a hamster cage" depending on who you ask. Maybe this is what Clark Gable would smell like IN a hamster cage, still I like it for some reason. :-)
I've seen reviews where people claim it makes them sleepy or calms them, which I tried for but didn't experience in the slightest. It is also said to be effective at repelling insects, which I will test this week with the warmer weather. But regardless of how it does with the scar treatment or insect repellent it's a neat product.
First of all, I'd like to mentioned I purchased this oil from SouthWest Outlet. I thought I'd mentioned the company/seller that I made the purchased with to give it a full credits on them! First of all, I was afraid that my order would be tampered with. As most of us knew that Doterra do not recommend getting their eo from out sources except from the Doterra office itself. My item was shipped as promised. Also seller took effort to bubble wrapped my item even though the envelope has already padded. That means a lot to me. Means they cared about my parcel.
Secondly let me explain why I initially bought this, this was for my son. Who failed the ADHD test( took test to check if he has adhd but it was negative) but he was hyper. He's 9yrs old and it's not normal for someone his age to do things he did. And I tried this on him. It sure make him a lot calmer!!! He could sit down in public quietly! He used to ran around in the mall, swing over in the train poles etc
I also tried it on myself and I never ever had the best restful sleep at night for years and I finally did w this oil! Amazing! I'd repurchase even before I ran out of this! Cos I cannot do a day without it!
I use this oil in my classroom (High school math), and it seems to help the students focus a little more. I'm not 100% convinced that it helps with ADD/ADHD, or with focusing...but I'm still experimenting. As for the smell, it's not terrible, but it's not very refreshing. It doesn't bother me, but the students comment on the smell when I use it. (I normally use Peppermint oil, but try this sporadically.)
I had never used this particular essential oil before and I didn't know what to expect with such a mix of reviews. Reviewers were either saying it was lovely or that it smelled horrible.
Now I know why.
Straight from the bottle, this will smell horrible and make you gag. Instead, I would recommend using as little of the vetiver as possible--even if you use all your other essential oils generously.
I would HEAVILY dilute the vetiver in a diffuser or a carrier oil. You will find this is 1000x more pleasant. Now, if you want to increase the strength, you can gradually add more, but know that a repulsive smell is easy to fix with dilution.
If you are thinking that you need to use the vetiver neat for it to have its strongest medicinal effect, consider that pure essential oils evaporate very quickly on warm skin--so you are actually losing MORE of it in the air. Using a carrier oil will actually make the vetiver stay on the skin longer with the added bonus of making the fragrance much more tolerable. Gagging will not make it a better medicine.
