I've tested the 4 cases above with an iPad2. Each is a portfolio case. You can find reviews of each online. I found good video reviews of each except Bear.

Three of these are "kickstand" cases. That is, the cover folds back and slips into a notch (the "kickstand") which holds the cover in a certain way that creates a stand. One case (SwitchEasy) doesn't use the kickstand but instead has grooves on the inside cover which the side of the case can slide into to create a stand.

All cases had magnets on the cover that turned the iPad on/off. This function worked well with all of them. Also, none of them had any problem with the magnets turning the case off if you flipped the cover around back, as some of other cases do (I had the latest version of the Yoobao, which apparently fixed that problem in an earlier version).

The Bear Motion was my favorite. The review below goes from lightest to heaviest.

YOOBAO EXECUTIVE. A glove for the iPad that was just a bit too flimsy for me.
Pros:
Very light. By far the lightest. It is basically a thin leather glove that goes around the iPad, and then a thin leather portfolio cover. You barely noticed the extra weight/bulk.

Cons:
1. Though made well, I didn't think it lived up to the vaunted reports of "Yoobao quality" that some other reviewers mentioned. A few of the holes on top were slightly off, and I wasn't really impressed with the look of the black leather and the off-white stitching.

This is a great case. I'm getting really picky with my gadgets and their cases these days.
Here's what would make it 5 stars:

1. Utlize the auto switch by embedding a 3rd magnet in the cover.

(I did this myself with a couple magnets from the local craft store. 5 bucks and 10 minutes later: Slim magnets placed in top "business card" sized pocket. Auto on/off enabled. *Careful: Magnet too weak and it won't register. Too strong and you'll switch off when folding cover all the way open.)

2. Get magnets to keep opened cover folded against itself. This is the main reason why I returned Apples smart cover: It constantly was flapping over when opened.

3. Leather edges that hold ipad in place around the screen should be narrower. Fingers are sometimes inhibited at perimeter.

4. Case could be cut better to grant easier access to volume buttons and mute/rotate switch.

5. Angle of the "laptop" position is too steep. Front cover needs to be adjusted with a different proportioned fold.

Overall, sleek look, protective and functional design. With changes above, next edition of this could have me as a customer at this cost.

Update 5/29/2011: I received the redesigned version of this case. Improvements are immediately noticeable. Cover is compatible with auto on/off. Edges of case are cut to allow easy access to entire screen. iPad much more secure in case. These improvements definitely earn it an extra star. Costumer service cannot be beat. One of the best product companies I have ever dealt with.

I originally purchased a red AYL Yoobao case for my iPad 2 but the smart cover feature did not work properly and the front cover flapped freely, constantly turning the iPad 2 on and off (see my review of the red AYL Yoobao case). Combined with the fact that the Yoobao case was packaged inadequately which led to some disfigurement, we returned it and purchased the Bear Motion Folio due to its popularity on Amazon (the number 1 selling case at the time).

The Bear Motion case is slightly better in quality compared with the Yoobao (the quality of both cases is pretty good, but the Yoobao case was not finished as well); however, the biggest thing that sets the two cases apart is the smart cover feature (auto sleep and awake when the cover is closed and opened respectively): the Bear Motion works much better than the Yoobao. Additionally, the Bear Motion cover magnetically clasps securely shut while the Yoobao case flaps around freely.

Unfortunately, Bear Motion cheated and did not use Apple's clasping magnets. Instead, they embedded two pairs of strong, opposing disk magnets into opposite corners of the case.

Apple embeds an array of four powerful rectangular magnets of alternating polarity into the side of the iPad 2 for the purpose of providing purchase for magnetic clasps. The magnets alternate in polarity in order to reduce the reach of their combined magnetic field so that they do not interfere with the iPad 2's integrated compass. Apple's Smart Cover latches firmly to these magnets when the cover is closed.

Bear Motion's solution would be fine except it completely renders the iPad 2's internal compass non-functional. The powerful magnets in the Bear Motion case overwhelm the iPad 2's compass. Very nifty iPad astronomy programs exist (e.g.Read more ›
