Amazon's Kindle Lighted Leather Cover

Protect and Illuminate Your Kindle

Our sleek, form-fitted leather cover was designed to be the perfect companion for Kindle. The premium leather exterior looks and feels great, while the soft microfiber interior protects your device from scuffs and scratches. No matter where you take your Kindle, you'll never be without illumination thanks to the integrated reading light. Our innovative design allows the built-in LED light to draw its power from Kindle, so no batteries are required.

Never Be Without a Light

An integrated LED reading light lets you read comfortably anytime, anywhere. The high-quality LED light is designed specifically for Kindle's paper-like display, adding brightness without adding glare.

A permanent part of the cover, the reading light is located just above your Kindle and is optimally positioned to provide an even light across the screen. When needed, simply flip the light out and it automatically illuminates, eliminating the need for a separate power switch. To turn the light off, just snap it back into place or close the cover. Since the light draws its power from Kindle, no batteries are needed.

How It Works

Our innovative cover interfaces seamlessly with your Kindle, securing your device while providing easy access to all controls and connections. Two small connectors draw power from the device to power the attached light.

Our cover is designed specifically for the latest generation Kindle and secures your device without any hinges or straps. Simply place your Kindle into the form-fitted interior of the cover and then gently press the device into place.

Read Comfortably with One Hand

Reading with the cover on, you can easily access Kindle's navigation features and buttons, while the rounded edges offer a perfect fit in your hands. The reading light is easily accessible when the cover is open and the cover is designed to fold back, so you can read comfortably with just one hand.

On the Go

Thin, lightweight, and durable, this cover is perfect for taking Kindle wherever you go. The stylish, genuine leather exterior and form-fitting interior provide ultimate fit and protection. You'll also never be without a reading light, and since the light draws its power from Kindle, no batteries are needed.

Amazon's official Kindle lighted leather cover features a genuine leather exterior and microfiber interior, and comes in four different colors.

Read Kindle easily in the dark with Amazon's revolutionary, all-new lighted leather cover.

Built-in connectors draw power from the Kindle device to power the integrated reading light.

Protect your Kindle on the go, and never be without a reading light.

Worth the wait!

Worth the wait!
Well the wait is over as at last my case finally arrived! I considered many alternatives while waiting but held out for the Amazon version & I'm glad I did. No other case I've seen online is as thin and compact as this but also provides an EXCELLENT LED bulb which distributes light evenly across the entire page. The first thing you notice when taking it out of its "barely there" packaging is how incredibly light and thin it is. This case is as slim as you can get, yet still provides excellent protection for your Kindle. The leather is smooth & slightly glossy but seems to be of good quality but if it changes I will reflect that in an updated review. It couldn't be easier to install just slightly push you Kindle into the cover and your done. It's very snug & will not fall out once it's in. It's a little more work to remove it but basically just slightly bend the lower right corner down & push the Kindle up to remove. The light is great and has almost ZERO glare at night and finally Amazon put it in the sweet spot to provide nice even light across the page. It really looks great at night!! When your done just close the cover and it pushes the light down for you, no need to touch it again once it's raised up. The front flap also folds nicely behind the back for one handed reading & once your finished it easily closes right back up & lays flat just as if it were new. I know many customers are posting 1 star reviews because of the long wait & I don't know why the cases are shipping so late but trust me, it's worth the wait. The cost is a different issue & I debated taking away a star for the price as for what it is, the case should be closer to the $40 mark but I decided to review the actual product & leave the buyer to decide whether or not it's worth the cost. I doubt many people will find a better case that provides such great functionality with such a slim & light profile.

I read every single review for this cover before I decided to buy it, but I am glad that I finally decided to pull the trigger. I have never had a Kindle or another cover, so my review is based on a first-timer's perspective. This is my feedback:

    1) I agree that this cover is expensive. Ridiculously expensive. But, after pricing other covers and other lights, then factoring in that I would have to buy replacement batteries for any other light, it did not seem like I would be saving much money if I bought something else. Plus, the fact that the light is "built-in" was very appealing and turns out to be extremely convenient.

    2) Yes, the cover should have had a magnet or something for closure. That was the main reason for my initial hesitation, not the price. I thought about using a rubber band around it, but some people mentioned that a rubber band would look ugly around the pretty cover (which, by the way, is quite pretty in the wine purple color). I ended up knitting a small little sleeve to slip over my Kindle cover to keep the cover closed, for additional protection, and to prevent scratches, because:

    3) The cover does scratch quite easily. I agree with one reviewer who did not seem to mind the scratches on the cover, because doesn't that show that the cover is doing its job to protect the Kindle? But, it does sound like the same cover for the Kindle Keyboard was much more durable. It would be nice for the cover to keep looking fresh and new, but I would rather my Kindle be protected than for my cover to look perfect. My little knitted sleeve is helping with that, but I know a lot of people wouldn't want to use an additional cover.

    4) Some people commented that the cover added too much to the size and weight of the Kindle. Really? How small were the books that you people were reading before you got the Kindle? Maybe it is because I am a new Kindle owner, but I think this cover is small and light-weight, and I have an additional knit sleeve over the cover. I am used to carrying around actual books, and the Kindle in this cover is smaller and lighter than any of the them.

    5) A few reviewers mentioned that the cover prevented them from using the side buttons on the Kindle properly. After reading all the reviews, it seems to me that there was a defective batch. My cover fits perfectly. If you order a cover and you have issues with this, I would contact Amazon for a replacement.

    6) Some people said that it seemed like they would damage their Kindle if they tried to remove it from the cover since it is such a tight squeeze. I can't really comment on this, because I am not planning on ever taking my Kindle out of the cover. To me, the cover fits so perfectly that it really just seems like a seamless extension of the Kindle itself. I do not see the point in taking the Kindle out of the cover.

    7) The light is perfect. I have no issues with it being too bright, not bright enough, too flimsy, or whatever other concerns people have had with it. It is easy, convenient, and only uses the Kindle battery when the Kindle is on and the light is flipped open. Some people have found the light too bright in their eyes and have put a piece of electrical tape on the front of the light to shield their eyes. I think that would be an easy, inexpensive solution if I had the same concern, but I don't.

    8) There were reviews that commented on the durability and quality of the cover. Except for the lack of a closure device, the cover seems very durable. I do not think the cover is flimsy in the slightest, and as I previously mentioned, the Kindle fits like a glove inside of it. The front part of the cover also folds back very nicely if you like reading that way.

Hopefully this review helped somewhat. If you are considering it, I definitely would buy it. Return it if you don't like it. I am happy with it and do not think there is a better cover out there!

'Just received my "[...] Lighted Leather Cover" -- I absolutely LovE the damn thing. It only took 2 business-days to get here (even though, FREE SHIPPING has a 5 - 8ᵈᵃʸ projection) which is pretty remarkable. Just so you know, that's without* an AmazonPrime account either.

    Arrived safe & sound too.

I purchased the Tan version and it genuinely looks even better* than those computerized pictures suggest. It has a very solid, grey rubberized perimeter, and the Kindle fits inside all nice & snug; so it really gives the overall unit this great looking, two-tone æsthetic. The Black version, I'm sure, would look just as nice as well.

Oh, I even went and tried violently* shaking it around to see if it might fall/slip out [?] ...NOPE: perfectly secure.

After I first put my Kindle into the pocket, I started to get worried when the light wasn't coming on (even though I had the Kindle on StandBy). To my surprise, however, the light lit right up the second I turned the Kindle back on. I'm not sure how it's able to read the difference between the two, but wow is that an awesome feature.

Speaking of which, the light itself is very soft, with no glare what-so-ever. Turns off the second you flick it back as well, meaning it doesn't end up draining the battery. The plastic swivel feels a bit flimsy so just be mindful of that aspect. I'm sure a lot of people might snap it right off if they're not careful.
(If they ever made another model of this, which I'm hoping they do, I'd recommend them changing it from a swing-type mechanic, to a flip-down panel, with a longer rectangular space for the lighting. This would make it less accident prone, would allow for a much more even distribution of the light, and give it an even more streamlined look)

Not to mention the fact that it draws energy directly from the reading device (how cool is that?). I mean, just knowing you never need batteries, ever*, was such a significant selling-point for me.

All in all, I'm just impressed through & through with this piece in its entirety. If you're an avid reader like myself, if you are frequently using your Kindle, or even if you're only checking around for some quality lighting/protection for it -- there's nothing out there better than this excellent combo.

It has a sleek, burnished feel; a brilliant, intuitive design; while maintaining a sturdy, prominent sense of security & durability.

I'm very happy with this product, and, should you decide to purchase one for yourself, so will you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait....
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 25, 2011
I preordered this cover at the same time as preordering the kindle. At the time I was aware I would have to wait to receive it and given an estimated dispatch date of the 22nd November, the date arrived and my cover was dispatched on time; as I still had a pile of paper backs to get through its arrival a few weeks after my kindle was not a problem, although I can understand others' disappointment.

Bought it when the colour was described as purple but the images fortunately give an accurate representation of the colour and I am very pleased with it (Had it been a more vibrant purple I would have probably opted for black).

Fits snugly and securely around the kindle as you would expect and does not interfere with the ease of using the device. I've read comments about people wishing it were padded but I feel this would then add too much bulk and extra unnecessary weight to such a sleek design. As for it not having a mechanism to keep it closed; personally I like the simplicity and this "book-like" quality. The light is fantastic and reading in bed the front of the cover can be held at an angle to stop any light escaping and disturbing your other half (This would be my husband's favourite feature)!

It seems like a quality product that I am happy to pay £50 for but I guess only with time and continued use will I see how it holds up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expensive but perfect
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 22, 2012
I looked long and hard at all the alternatives, but this one is just excellent in all the important places. IMHO worth the money in the long-run: -
    1) The protection. You want to protect the screen day-to-day and the edges/corners if dropped, but not be bulky or faffy. This cover is as sleek and small as it can be but provides a solid enough front cover (unless you are attacked with a spear maybe) and the stiff rubber 'holder' protects the edges perfectly.
    2) The light. I worried about this, but it's pretty much perfect. It's more than bright enough and very small and neat. The light cast is a little uneven, but there's really no way around that - even a light on your forehead would reflect badly. It's not uneven enough to make it difficult or annoying. Oh, and it gets it's power from the Kindle! Yay! Awesome idea - no battery changing or extra battery bulk. It feels a *little* flimsy, but that's probably just perception rather than it actually being flimsy.
One thing - depending on how you hold the Kindle, the actual LED might be visible to you and being bright it's a little off-putting. As long as you can change your hold though, it won't be a problem. I actually customised the light, coz I'm a geeky perfectionist: I attached a piece of tape which still allows it to be closed, but effectively shields my eyes from direct view of the LED in all positions. I also put some scotch tape on the LED to make the light a little more dim and diffuse.
    3) The quality. The leather is smooth but still 'leathery' not plasticky. I like it a lot. Feels nice.

In summary: I find it hard to think how this could be improved by more than slight tweaks. A great product if expensive.

Reviewed in Spain on February 28, 2013
