Only around ten bucks for a genuine Linksys switch. How can you beat that?

I have several devices in several rooms which each need an internet connection. WiFi isn't reliable enough when your house is already filled with cell phones and tablets and laptop computers. So I run one cable to each room into one of these switches. From there to the TV, DVD player, Blu-Ray, TiVo, DVR, Computer, AppleTV, or whatever is there. You can even connect one switch to another with no problems as long as you aren't trying to download massive amounts of data or something. For instance, I have one cable running into the switch in one bedroom, and from there to a switch in another bedroom. At any one time that would mean two people could be watching NetFlix or something, and with no degradation. When we used WiFi for NetFlix, we noticed problems downloading stuff. IMO, it's better to just bite the bullet and run wires when you want high quality video to download.

I have installed three of these in various points in my house. It comes in handy when you have one ethernet port coming out of the wall and many things that require internet connectivity. My latest application was to add this to my family room because I needed to hookup and apple TV, Tivo, Chromecast and a Sony receiver. Works beautifully and never have any issues with internet connections on any of the devices.

Linksys SE2800 8-Port switch

My home office has an HP color printer, Brother Laser printer, 2 high performance desktops and a security system, all which I have opted to connect with Cat-5 cables (faster connection, slightly more security, and reduced WiFi BW usage). Consequently, a 4-port switch isn't quite enough to meet my personal requirements. I have bought several Linksys products in the past and have been satisfied and as a result, I continue to purchase Linksys/Cisco (although D-Link and Netgear seems to get excellent reviews).

The most annoying aspect of setting up the switch was locating an AC socket that would accept the awkwardly shaped transformer. Other than that, setup time was predicated on how fast I could hook up the cables. Because of the ease-of-setup, low price, and fast delivery, I am going to rate the product a "5-star".

Order was serviced by Amazon and I have observed that "Amazon Prime" membership seems to get me priority shipping (2-day) and I must say I am very much appreciating the service.

Inexpensive but reliable GigE switch

I've used 3 of these in a network install and they've worked great for years. They'll pass VLAN traffic even though they're unmanaged, something a lot of other inexpensive switches will not do. Only complaint is no LEDs on the front, so you have to flip it around to see what the network connections are doing.

You won't even know these 'smart' switches are inline, except that you'll now have five additional ports to plug your Ethernet devices into. With three very data intensive devices connected to it, I cannot tell the difference than before when I had only one connected directly to the router. Does away with switching cables and provides additional Ethernet ports to your system.

When I went to visit my mother-in-law in Florida, I discovered that she had purchased a medical alert bracelet that required an Internet connection. The main unit for the medical device, required that the single Ethernet cable she had, be plugged into the back of the unit. Since I wanted to use my laptop computer, and there was no wireless connection available, I wasn't sure what to do. My brother-in-law, who lives in the same condo complex, let me use his computer to search for something on Amazon that would solve the problem. After searching for a while; I came across this Ethernet switch made by Lynksys and made the purchase.

Setting it up couldn't have been easier. First I plugged the Ethernet switch into a wall outlet. Than, I removed the main Ethernet cable from the medical device and plugged it into port number one on the switch. Next, I plugged the medical device into port number two. Finally, I plugged my laptop into port number three. The only extra items that I had to purchase were two 6' Ethernet cables which I used for the medical device and my laptop computer. The entire set-up took less than 5 minutes and the results were exactly what I had hoped for. I'm able to use my laptop computer at the same time that my mother-in-law's medical device is in use. Linksys, which is known for making great products, has another winner here.

Worth the Money

It's a non managed switch, so not really much to say about set up.
Plug in your Ethernet cables, plug in the switch. So simple a non-techie significant other could do it.
I was using a four port switch but with the addition of a networked TV, blueray player, apple tv... i was running out of available ports.
I ordered this and received the usual super fast shipping from Amazon. Packaging was excellent.
From the time I unpacked the switch to the time i was done (including moving the old 4 port switch over to the home theater area and plugging in the apple tv to stop using wireless) it took 5 minutes.
Yes there are cheaper switches out there, but since this switch is in a semi-visible area I wanted something that looked a little nicer. Having it come from Cisco is just an added bonus.

If you're looking for an 8 port switch, I would recommend the SE2800.
