My Vital Vitamix
5 out of 5 stars
My Vital Vitamix
As you can see I don't have any arms. Cooking for me can be quite challenging. The Vitamix makes it a cinch! No pre-cutting or chopping required. Frozen or fresh? The Vitamix handles with ease. It's so powerful it can even grind steak & chicken with the bone on!! I've made everything from super smoothies to piping hot soups. Since buying my Vitamix I have lost over 40 pounds, my high blood pressure has stabilized, my skin glows with a youthful luminosity, I have so much more energy, and I have NEVER felt more rejuvenated! There isn't a single day I don't use my Vitamix. Yes it is expensive but at what cost do you value good health?

On several occasions I saw the VitaMix demo'd at Costco, but I didn't spring for it, primarily because of the price. But neighbors have one, and they've made nut butters for me, which you can't do with a regular blender. My old bar-style blender bit the dust, so I needed a replacement quickly. I checked Cuisinart and KitchenAid models here at Amazon, and I read quite a few reviews, especially the one-star and two-star comments. I wanted to know what people didn't like, or what quality issues might be worth noting. Obviously Cuisinart and KitchenAid sell thousands of blenders to thousands of happy people, but I didn't like reading about leaking jars, motor problems, and returns. I encourage you to do a little reading about these products, including the VitaMix, before you buy. I think there may be a decline in manufacturing quality on some of the well-known brands. Basically with VitaMix, if something goes wrong, which is unlikely, they take care of it without delay. So ...

I decided to go ahead and spring for a VitaMix, and I saw that this newer model was available. Yes, it's pricey, but you can apply for an Amazon Store Card, and on a purchase this expensive there is a six-month interest-free option, so that makes buying one manageable for lots of people, including me. That's exactly how I paid for it.

It's a very powerful machine, it has a new lid on the jar which is more snug fitting. Not as noisy as my last blender, which was a real banshee screamer. The only thing I might criticize is the recipe book that comes with the unit is focused on fruity, sweet drinks. Well, that's fine, we all love that stuff, but the machine can do much more than make frappucinos. You can puree roasted eggplant to add to chicken stock for soup, you can make superb pasta sauces, pestos, and savory dips. This is a tool for people who like to cook and make things with fresh ingredients. If your needs are very basic, like a morning smoothie, you may not need this much power. I did laugh when I unpacked my unit and saw that it has a 3-prong plug, and a fairly sturdy cord. This is not your average kitchen blender! If the pocketbook will allow it, and if you are something of a foodie, I think it's a good investment, it'll likely last forever and expand your horizons in the kitchen. It sure has delighted me.

Have no complaints on the operation of my Vitamix, other than that it is quite noisy. Finally decided to make the investment (at the $600 price point, it IS an investment!) after using my friend's Vitamix for a nut-based recipe.

Vitamix corners the market on pulverizing grains and nuts, and since I am cooking more vegan recipes, this is important. No one wants chunks of cashews or pecans in a gravy that's supposed to be smooth, and it enables cooks to make various grain flours in small batches. That is a plus, esp when cooking for ppl who, for instance, can't stand oatmeal but will never notice oat flour in bread.

I bought the optional--and very pricey--dry container after using the wet container for a few months. I use the Vitamix often enough that I keep the base on my counter all the time. (The basic wet container is too tall to fit under my cupboards.) Vitamix makes terrific smoothies very quickly and completely blends greens--no pieces of spinach left floating around.

If you want to be able to use different grains and legumes to quickly grind your own flour, the dry container is a must. You can also achieve the smoothest smoothies and nut butters with the Vitamix wet container. It really adds to the versatility of vegetarian cooking in the kitchen.

If, however, you don't use a blender for nuts or grains, there are other less expensive options on the market that will also do the job. My friends have had good success with smoothies with the NutriBullet, which you can get for about $100 at Walmart. And higher-end blenders also do a great job with wet ingredients. If you want to go the serious vegan route, though, Vitamix is the best option--which is why they still can charge such a high price.

I was a little skeptical about the blender because of the the price, and didn't purchase it for a couple of months because I just didn't want to pay that much for a blender. "How good could it be?" I asked. Well, I received the answer after finally deciding to give it a try.

How good can it be? Simplicity and performance combined, it will do what you need, and far better than any blender on the market. It makes the smoothest smoothies, creamiest dips. It makes almond butter, coconut butter, almond flour ( or other flours from grains), the creamiest cream soup (no graininess at all). It is a snap to use --- Just three switches. ON...then High or Low. And that's all you need. It is easy to clean. I love it. The health benefits alone, from being able to finely blend spinach and kale into smoothies, will pay for itself.

I first read about this on the food blog Detoxinista. After finding so many fabulous recipes on that blog, of healthy cookies, healthy soups, breads, amazing, easy recipes, I seriously started looking into this blender. The blog has so much helpful, genuine caring information, I thought there must be something to this.

Highly recommended. Simple, elegant, hard-working, easy to clean multitasker!

Well conceived and well constructed machine. Easy to operate. Powerful. Easy to clean. Sturdy.
I'd recommend it anytime over most other products on the market.

Comparable to the Cuisinart culinary robot I bought some twenty years ago for 400$ and that is still going strong to this date. Expensive, but durable.

Best blender ever. U don't need anything else to blend your juices or soups. I love this machine since I use it for my veggie/fruit juices on a regular basis. The motor does smell if you turn it on for too long so be careful how long you blend at a time.

I really enjoy my vitamix but I'm giving this 3 stars due to how insanely loud it is. The machine jumps around the counter as well. Would prefer something more substantial and quiet but it gets the job done.

Years ago I bought a Vitamix with the metal container. I thought it was too late to have it repaired after 30 years so I have replaced it. I am wondering whether I should have bought the model with the dial but as I haven't had the machine long I can't judge. Pleased so far anyway.
