Last night I saw a show called "After the First 48" which showed the court case based upon this episode. This episode is not as interesting but I was dying to see what the beginnings were for this sad and shocking fact pattern. Watching this episode was like seeing "Star War IV" before "Phantom Menace" (which is what everyone did).

The killer murdered two women, two men, and two youngsters. He also stabbed a child in the head and beat two other children with a wooden rod. In this episode, they did not show photos of the murdered children. However, on "After the First 48," they did. Perhaps the children's guardian or adult next-of-kin gave permission.

This episode pointed to how your worst enemy may be the person that you assumed to be your best friend. This episode spends a bunch of time investigating crazy leads. Did the a gang leader do it? Was it based on a drug debt? Remember how in "Scooby-Doo" episodes, the creepy monster is always exposed to be a character introduced at the start of the show? Well this has that same pattern. It was scary knowing that the killer was sooo close to other innocents. This episode may frustrate many, like chasing a wild goose.

They expose the real killer 3/4 into the episode. The revelation shows a cop who can transform from Good Cop to Bad Cop in a second. The mother of the murdered actually hugs the killer and says, "I love you." The killer's confession reminded of when Oprah/Seth confesses her secret to Danny Glover/Paul D. in the film "Beloved."

The cops interviewed said this was their saddest case ever. The pile of stuffed animals outside the killing house was huge. This was an incredibly memorable episode. And luckily, the killer is revealed in "After" to get his just desserts.

I LOVE the First 48....Lester Street really hurts to watch (It's hard to fathom a family member with so much hatred that they would rather see you dead) That particular episode is just gut wrenching...

My sister got me hooked on the First 48....I watch it all the TIME!

The first 48 never gets boring. Real life reality, not the contrived nature of other reality shows. It is wonderful to watch real professional Detectives catching the bad guy. It really renews my confidence in our Police Departments around the nation. The shows also demonstrate many cautionary tales in life.
