Top reviews from the United States

Look, I don't like to trash any product, because I know how much it can effect it's sales, and this is the very first one star rating I have given in the dozens of reviews I have already posted on Amazon, but I feel obligated to recount the very strange experience I had with this product. Firstly, when I received this product, there was NO DOCUMENTATION that came with it, nothing, regarding how to use it, or how to use the remote, which has about thirty or so buttons. I consider myself to be highly comfortable with tech gear of just about any sort, but I could not get this product to work, at all. And then unlike any other product I have ever researched on the Internet as to documentation, whether purchased from Amazon or not, I was unable to find any documentation about this product, whatsoever. And that's just for openers. It gets stranger than that. I could find no reference to this product as being either a Microsoft OR Dell product. There is no reference to it on either web site, at least that I could find, using the part numbers listed in the headline. Am I through with this strangeness? NO. It gets even stranger than that. At that point, and now in a tizzy, I contacted the "Amazon 30 Days From Purchase Technical Support Assistance "800" number", and a very nice person tried to assist me, but he was unable to find any documentation about this product on the Internet either. Does this story get even stranger? Unfortunately, yes. The Amazon Techie and I got on a conference call directly with DELL SUPPORT, AND THEY DENIED HAVING ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS PRODUCT, and that they had no knowledge whatsoever about it. GO FIGURE! The Amazon Techie was as stumped as I was, and he offered to refund me the entire $ amount, upon my returning it which I instantly accepted. I feel terrible in having to post a review like this, but that is exactly what happened. I guess some of you will say: "Well Gee, how difficult is it to figure out what all the buttons are for on a remote?". But there were any number of buttons, the functions of which, I could not figure out, and I could not get this product to work, and there was no way for me to find out exactly what all those button functions were for. So, in finality, and because I have read other reviews about this product that are not negative, I assume that those posters, and any of you who intend on buying it, are already familiar with a WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER REMOTE, and will have no problem with it, but unfortunately for me, that was not the case.

This remote works but some of the functionality of the original Microsoft Windows XP Media Center remote are missing: no backlight, no TV power button, no programmability for volume key, missing labels.

You may have to be contend with it given that the original MS remote is long discontinued and you are lucky if you find a new one on auction sites. The used ones are going double the price of this one and that is for the remote only (no receiver included).

I bought this as a spare to my original remote that lost the battery cover (yes the cover fits between this and the MS one).

To clarify: the remote I got it exactly as described and I believe was made by DELL. It is only that DELL cheeped out and instead of making a full copy of the MS remote they cut the above mentioned features to lower the manufacturing cost and not have to provide multiple versions labeled in different languages.

I bought it to work with my Windows 8 box running MediaPortal and XBMC, works great. Remote isn't too clunky like some and the buttons seem to be where you think they would be.

My Boxee Box has been retired to bedroom duty, but I prefer to keep the remotes to a minimum, and the Boxee Box lacks an IR input. Owing to its PC roots, the Boxee Box is pre -rogrammed to work with many IR receivers, especially the readily available ones designed for MS Media Center. This is no exception, and it's easy to pair with my Harmony. Very happy!

I built an HTPC and use this along with TV tuner and an over-the-air antennae. I have Windows Media Center control my comcast cable box via this receiver. The remote works well too but I swapped it out for the Harmony remote.

Just wanted to note that this RF receiver is compatible with the Logitech Harmony 700+ remotes, by using the Compatible Dell Part Number: KF659 in your remote set up. With a little tweaking, I think it'll be just fine for my needs.
