In World War II, Poland and Western Europe fell under German domination. French and British troops were rescued at Dunkirk while England suffered bombing raids. Then a pact between Japan, Germany, and Italy created the Axis Powers.
This series has been consistent and informative. Definitely not intended for those with a knowledge of military history but for beginners. The information is accurate within reason and the narration is well presented. The original footage is interesting. I would disagree with the expression 'dumbed down' and suggest that the intent of this series is to present a fast paced simple overview that is easily understood. A simple beginning for those who are curious and want to learn. This isn't an in depth study by any means but it should not be considered as an insult to intelligence either. Remember that there are those who have very little knowledge of past wars and do not need to be inundated with details. Kept in perspective, it presents enough information to be an encouragement for those with limited knowledge and perhaps a short attention span. A good teaching tool.
I used this video in my mixed ability classroom and found that it was engaging to students on all levels. It proves vocabulary and map skills reinforcement to my lower level students and great newsreel footage and military history for my higher level students.
On a practical level this video is also the right length to use in a classroom setting. It is detailed enough to provide good background knowledge and activate prior knowledge, but short enough that I can still engage students in a discussion around the content in one class period.
This commentator was trying to inject 6th Grade terms like Axis and Allies so this becomes another educational videotape the teachers can play when they are too lazy to teach. Defining what those terms might have been important for 6th graders, but they didn't bother. It also used updated slang terms to sound hip. Dumbing down the conversation further, if possible. The average 8th Grade intelligence of a 40's era student is PhD level work for this Producer. Why isn't world history being taught by the US Education industry? Why is every other month dedicated to Martin Luther King, or Caesar Chavez? We have an ample supply of great American hero's on these old video's and newsreels from WW Two. Why don't we ever hear from them? I wonder (sarc)
None of these great WW Two American's committed treason, burned US flags, or caused our defeat in Vietnam by colluding with Communists like Winter Soldier and current Secretary of State John 'I'm throwing my medals away, again' Kerry. These people should be horsewhipped.
Remember, 'past is prologue' history repeats, because mankind's evil nature never changes. The Regime, the Clinton Gang and their Bankster elite allies want us all disarmed and enslaved. Just like their hero's Mao, Hitler and satan did.
