I am not what one would call a dog lover, but I stumbled upon this program and it sounded interesting. The history of the domestication of dogs throughout the world parallels the history (and prehistory) of man. It appears that without dogs, the development of the human race would have been greatly hindered. The dog provided safety and protection for its master, helped with hunting, pulled supplies when people needed to move, and performed many other tasks that permitted man to develop into what became the civilized world.
Interesting documentary on how wolves turned themselves into dogs. The book Dogs of the American Aborigines (1920) sheds some light on dogs of the native Americans prior to European contact, which provides some insight on the evolution of dogs.
