- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2013My only qualm is that there are not enough puzzles. The game is one of a kind, and once it's ended, it leaves you thirsty for more, unfortunately, it's almost impossible to find anything that resemble it on all of the Internet. So...when will there be more puzzles? Can we hope for a "Grid Detective 2" or something like that? With about twice of the actual puzzle number, I would personally agree to pay for a sequel.
Impossible to find, except obviously, for the one Ed Pegg mentioned: "Who is the Engineer?" and once called "Einstein's Riddle" who goes as such:
*There are 5 houses all with a different colour, with a person of a unique nationality in each one.
*These 5 persons drink a unique drink, smoke a unique brand of cigarettes, and have a unique kind of pet.
*The question is "Who has the fish?"
CLUES
1. The British man lives in the red house.
2. The Swedish man has a dog for a pet.
3. The Danish man drinks tea.
4. The green house is to the left of the white house.
5. The owner of the green house drinks coffee.
6. The person that smokes Pall Mall has a bird.
7. The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill.
8. The person that lives in the middle house drinks milk.
9. The Norwegian lives in the first house.
10. The person that smokes Blend, lives next to the one that has a cat.
11. The person that has a horse lives next to the one that smokes Dunhill.
12. The one that smokes Bluemaster drinks beer.
13. The German smokes Prince.
14. The Norwegian lives next to a blue house.
15. The person that smokes Blend, has a neighbour that drinks water.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2013Well, I completed all 30 of the puzzles and hoped to find a bigger collection to buy, but sadly, there's nothing to be found.
The only problem I had with Grid Detective was that my big fingers had trouble selecting some of the edge squares. Fortunately, the designers were nice enough to provide arrow keys for dealing with that exact problem. From a programming perspective, this is better designed than others I have tried online. (Puzzle Baron has something for the iPad, but I don't own one of those so I can't compare.)
I actually read all the 1-star reviews. A few asked how anyone could give glowing reviews of this game. Well, compare the 1-star reviews with the 5-star. I noticed the following about the low reviews:
* A good portion of them were written by children and they can be excused from not comprehending logic puzzles
* Of the ones not written by children, the reviews were laced with "b4" or "u 2" (we speak English, not Bingo), misspellings and horrible grammar. Logic puzzles are for people who like challenging puzzles, not the crowd that whines "math is hard!"
One reviewer commented that these seemed like the story problems she so hated 30 years ago (and the comparison is likely valid). Thanks, but I liked story problems. So did everyone that I talked to with technical and creative careers, like engineers and computer programmers... you know those people? They are the ones that give you all your favorite mindless things, from Androids to iPads to Angry Birds that run on them.
Anyways, ignore the poor reviews. This is a top-notch game ... AND FREE! Can't beat the price. Now, creators, where's your sequel?
- Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2012I love logic games and the such and this is one of the best. Plus 5 stars for that.
However, after considerable trial and error, I found out that this application drains the life out of my Kindle battery in about an hour. It will go from a full charge to 100% dead. Thinking this wasn't possible, I thought it must be a battery problem. I replaced it with a brand new, factory fresh battery. I tested it by only reading for several weeks. No problem. Played this game once (and ONLY this game) and the battery immediately went dead. Minus 4 stars for this as it makes the entire device unusable.
Too bad. It's such a well thought out game.
For due diligence's sake, I did my same test above on the other variations of this game (Holiday notably) and had the same experience.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2011I love these games. I remember playing these I kid. They would give them to us in school. I've always loved. I would actually pay for this if I could get one made entirely of hard ones. Please make more of these Amazon. I've finished this one and I'm going through withdrawls. If you like a challenge and the process of elimination you will love this game. You work the grid eliminating possibilities as you go until the answers are before your eyes. So much fun and a great challenge.
Update: I have this program on my kindle 3 and I love it but.... I'm about to upgrade to a kindle fire and give my K3 to my mother. Now I will lose ALL active content I've ever purchased. I think it would be great of the designers to give us a free pass when they come out with a FIRE version so we don't feel like we lost money when we switched over. :-)
*3/11/12 Hopefully someone will create this for the fire. Only thing I miss about kindle 3G is games and battery life.
