I used to work in a bar, doing bartending on unbranded shakers. those work great, save for the occasional leaks. I saw amazon selling schott zwiesel's Boston shaker and i decided to give it a try. right after it came, i put it to the test. day in day out since i bought it, it has never leaked or opened on me halfway through shaking. after buying this, my work was taken to a whole new level. the previous shakers that the bar had only could make one drink at a time cause they were small. this one is not, it can hold 2 to 3 drinks and this increases the efficiency of my work, hence the 5 stars. its a little expensive, but totally worth every cent. cheers!!

Making Cocktails? You Need This!!

Bought as a birthday present to aid my husband's ever-expanding esoteric cocktail mania. Quality is excellent, but I'd expect that from the manufacturer. Highly recommended over shakers that have a strainer cap. No issues with separating the 2 units after shaking - but it gets thumped on a rubber mat. I'd be cautious about anything harder.

Note: you need to buy a separate strainer for this item. I can recommend this Oxo unit: OXO SteeL Cocktail Strainer As many others have before me. It fits this shaker nicely and the rubber thumb pad is handy.

I like Schott Zwiesel for its great quality and design, but above all for its ergonomic products especially created and thought for their function. It seems evident that the main goal of a company that makes bar tools should create functional objects, but just read the reviews about shakers and you will realize it is not. I insist on the fact that there is a way to use this shaker; it has already been very well explained in a review from an Amazon customer if you are interested in.
This object is made of glass and stainless steel, and has no indications about dosage or eventual cocktails' recipes, which I prefer;
It is big enough for 2 mojitos or tequila pamplemousse, etc.
I recommend this Boston shaker and the entire bar collection by Charles Schumann, it is functional, ergonomic and so beautiful. Just have a look at the shaker and the latest martini glasses, I love them. Tres classe!

The shaker definitely looks nice, but I bought it for Schott Zwiesel's glass durability. The other day, the top centimeter or so of glass broke off in side the metal half when I tried to tap the shaker open, exposing jagged edges all along the glass. I had to throw the whole thing away. And my poor margarita. I won't be paying the premium for Schott Zwiesel anymore.

Glass cracked on third cocktail

This shaker looks nice, and appears well-made, but the rim of the glass broke while I was making my third cocktail with it. The shaker leaked for first two cocktails, so I did give it an extra hard rap on the third drink to try to get a better seal. Still, I didn't strike it all that hard, and you'd think this would be designed to withstand a fair amount of daily abuse behind a cocktail bar. In all fairness I am a noobie at using a Boston shaker, so my technique may not be perfect, but it's not like it's rocket science. For the price I would expect this to last for several years of daily use. Lasting only for several cocktails is a big fail, and a big disappointment. I would give this product only one star if it weren't for the fact that the tin half of the combo is well made, and I all need do is find a more robust pint glass to be back in business.

But I did manage to break the glass... Not its fault at all - I dropped it onto tile from counter height. That didn't do it, it bounced onto my foot and then back into the tile and proceeded to bounce back and forth about a dozen times from top to bottom sides about a very fast and then it finally gave up. Any normal glass would have broken a dozen times over. Ordering another one (maybe two since I am apparently a bit clumsy).

Great quality, except for the glass

Others hit this on the head, buy for the metal part only, the glass is very weak and can (will) shatter at the worst possible times. I tapped mine on the counter to help break the two apart and it cracked, then shattered.

Seems to me it would be better to just sell the metal section, allowing you to pick up glasses with proper strength.
