My 13 year old son kept raving about the "new" Red Dawn. I told him to sit with me and watch this version and if he liked the new one better I would watch the new one. Needless to say - I haven't seen the new one yet. :) If you were a kid in the 80's like me then you know that this movie was something that in the back of all of our minds could happen. I know that I wanted the commies to attack my school so we could fight back. Our mascot was the Rams so it wouldn't have been near as cool as shouting "Wolverines!". Anyway - very good movie and I was thrilled to watch it again after all of these years.

This was an upgrade for me from the 2-disc special edition dvd. I didn't care about the extra documentary that the Shout! version has - I just wanted a good print.

For completists - the version I got had a regular blue style case, not the red case in the picture. The artwork is red, but the case is blue. I didn't care about that as I put the jacket and blu-ray into a 3-disc case so I could add my 2-disc dvd and have a 3-disc edition.

In case you're wondering, when I ordered this it did NOT come with the cool looking red case as shown in the illustration. Thought you might like to know.

... that a handful of teenagers could have held off Soviet and Cuban military professionals for so long. The rugged Western scenery is the best part of this movie. The dark emotions of anger, grief and despair on the part of the Americans (both young and old) were very moving, really to the point of being unsettling. As I write this at the end of September 2018... one has to wonder about the real possibility that such a scenario could actually befall this country given how much the world has changed in just the last two years.

This is a great movie, if only because of the nostalgia of the early eighties. The acting is ok, the special effects are ok and the editing is ok...but the story is great and back then America was worried about the "Red Army" rolling across the palins of our country. If you have only seen the recreated red dawn then you are most likely to young to enjoy this but it is still a movie favorite.

A timeless movie that illustrates how quick things can change. If you don't believe, ask the Brits, French, Russians, Jews, or Germans of the 1930s/1940s or for more recent times ask the same groups or the Afghanis, Syrians, Iraqis or many more I am sure you can come up with on your own. The Cuban Colonel at the end sums it all up. What's it all for in the end?????

I absolutely love this movie. If you have not seen the reboot, I highly recommend viewing this one first. It has great acting by giants such as Swayze and Sheen and a powerful story line to go along with it. Although the threat was more relevant when it first was released, however the thrill is still the same. This would make an excellent movie night when followed by its reboot staring Josh Peck and Chris Hemsworth. Even though they are basically the same movie, they have more than enough differences and drama to warrant watching them successively. 10/10 would recommend.
