    Good first microscope
For the price this is a great microscope to get. Just be aware at 800x - 1000x you will need immersion oil to get good resolution (don’t use immersion oil on your 40x objective though!) 2000x is merely a zoom and doesn’t provide further resolution. For anyone wanting to look at microbes in pond water or at cells 40x should be the max you have to use and it is perfectly fine for that.To take pictures I would recommend getting a phone stand or a clip on adapter. For experienced microscopists, I don’t recommend this product. You are unable to adjust it to reach full Kohler Illumination so it would be wise to seek other options that allow those adjustments.Overall this is a solid product and great for a gift for a curious person.

I'm a homebrewer and I was looking for a microscope with which I could count yeast cells and check yeast viability. I didn't want to spend $500+ on a hobby microscope and my husband found this one for me! The image on 400x is great for counting cells with my hemocytometer (which I bought somewhere else) and it's very handy having the 20x eyepieces so that I can get an even better look at the yeast without having to deal with the oil objective lens (which works fine but is a little bit of a hassle to use and clean, BTW the immersion oil is included with the microscope). This is perfect for the nerdy homebrewer like myself. The image is just as good as the microscope used at a local brewpub here (which is a heavy duty college type microscope).

    Only 2 very minor complaints:
First, you have to assemble the microscope (which is simple) by attaching the top eyepiece section to the base but the hole for the thumb screw that you use to screw the two together was poorly drilled (but then it's an inexpensive microscope). Once together it seems fine but the screw does stick out such that you wouldn't want someone using your microscope without knowing that this screw should not be touched.
Second, while the instructions downloaded were generally fine, the instructions for interpupillary adjustment (3.3, page 5) read 'hold the left and right eyepiece tubes and slide the tubes in and out' when it should read ' hold eyepiece tubes and move them apart or closer together'.

This is a great microscope for homebrewers. Great images for under $200 - well worth the money!! Just don't forget to get a hemocytometer or at the very least some slides and cover glass. So much fun for so little money!!

I ordered this after it was recommended on a Facebook goat group, as I wanted to be able to run my own fecals. However when it arrived, I was dismayed to find no manual was included. A piece of paper in the box stated that a manual could be downloaded from their website after entering a code, which I was supposed to find on the box, however they had failed to print or stick the code on the box in the place they said it would be. I contacted customer service who sent me a link but in order to access the link I would need a password which they had not provided. You would think it was a matter of national security just to get a manual for a product purchased at full price. On the next attempt at getting customer service, I found someone who gave me the password to access the link, but on finally gaining access to the website, I found the drop down list did not include my model. Finally, third attempt at customer service and Daniel R. said he would email me the manual. Hours later he did email me the PDF. I got the microscope set up, but the instructions said to look through the binoculars and adjust until the two circles converged. Unfortunately I never saw 2 circles and regardless of adjustments, never got anything to converge either. The main problem is, unlike a pair of binoculars, where the two eye pieces can be adjusted to fit one's eyes, on this microscope, the eyepieces are stationary and the only adjustment is to have them go up and down. Very unsatisfactory. I am an adult with a normal sized face and normal eye spacing, but there is no way for me to look through these two eyepieces with both eyes at the same time and their very minimal adjustments do not change that. I contacted customer service again and the only thing they could offer was that I could return it. Absolutely zero attempt to help me resolve the issue or give me any pointers for things I could do differently to get this to work. It is a hassle to have to return and I'm sure there is nothing actually wrong with the microscope but I decided in the end I will just return it, because if it is this hard to get customer service from them, I don't want to be stuck with it down the road when something does go wrong with it.

This past year, I began homeschooling my 8th grade daughter, who has every intention of being a nurse. I know that many homeschool students tend to be weak in the sciences, and I didn't want to fall into that trap, so we chose the Apologia Science curriculum, and by high school, you must have a student microscope to complete the labs. The student microscope sold with the curriculum seemed very low quality for the money. By comparison, this AmScope microscope is more like one a college level student would use. It is beautifully crafted, works like a dream, and was the best choice for the money. I purchased a set off 200 slides from AmScope as well, and after having my children watch the instruction video, we set out to investigate the microscopic world around us. It is easy to use, and even my 8year old could do it. I like the heavy weight of it -hardly something you would easily knock off the table. The knobs are feel very smooth and made it easy to dial in to a crystal clear image. We were simply amazed! My children though looking at blood samples would be gross or disgusting, but now they think it is beautiful. They can see for themselves how we are fearfully and wonderfully made!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good for the money
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 6, 2020
For 139 this microscope does almost every thing your could want and appears to be very good quality.

Comes with a 2-pin plug for the light, as mentioned in other reviews, but I had an old shaver\toothbrush plug adapter which it fitted. My Schuko adapter did not fit. I also purchased some rubber eye pieces and I am trying to order a 60x 160 objective to replace the 100x oil objective, hopefully that will work. This flexibility is one of the advantages of getting a 4-objective standardised system.

Comes with a plastic dust cover but no hard case, other than the polystyrene packaging. I haven't used the 20x eyepiece as it gives false magnification at the top end and is probably only of use to give 200x in between the 100x and 400x. I debated about paying more for a trinocular scope but at £100 more for very little-used functionality decided against it.

The scope came fully assembled but with no usage instructions, so if you are new to these I would recommend viewing some youtube videos to understand the features, e.g. the condenser aperture, and the practical experiments you can do with it.

While very much personal taste I like the look of the scope - it looks utilitarian and professional, more like a scientific tool than like a toy, and therefore seems to get a more respectful treatment from my just-started-secondary-school children.

Overall I am very happy with the purchase and I hope it will last a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome microscope! I made my own darkfield by cutting ...
Reviewed in Canada on July 24, 2016
Awesome microscope! I made my own darkfield by cutting a piece of clear thick plastic the same size as the green filter a I glued a 10 cent in the center and inserted it in place of the green filter in the filter holder and it works, so I am glad that this microscope has a filter holder. Making these darkfield patch stop filter is easy and fun to do as an experiment. Google "DIY DIC filter" and you will find plenty of references how to make such filter.

I have also order some COL filters from ebay and this give the similar effect as with DIC, which give depth to the microorganisms as shown in my attached photo of a Closterium algae taken with the 20x objective and my little DIY DIC filter. The picture was taken through my cellular phone so not a very good one.

The M82ES is bright and easy to use. It came well packed and required minimal assembling, which was only to put the base of the eyepiece in place and tighten a little screw, then to insert the eyepieces. Everything else was pre-assembled. I was afraid that the inter-ocular distance of 55 mm was not going to work for me because I am a small person with a small distance between my eyes but it still work (although 53mm would be best) at 55 mm and watching the microscope with a binocular is so much easier on the eyes than with my previous monocular! I will order the eye cups as it will make viewing even easier. The microscope only come with a thin plastic dust cover so I will order the vinyl carrying case to protect it.

Although I like this microscope a lot, if I was not on such tight budget I would have bought the Omax M8311 trinocular (363$) instead because not only does it have a dedicated port for a camera, but it is much more upgradable. My only complain with the M82ES is that it does not have a lot of possibility to upgrade. There is a darkfield condenser available but no phase contrast or no Kohler either. For anyone not wishing to have these options in the future, then it's not a big deal, but if you wish to have a microscope that can be upgraded and grown with you, this one is not the best. Also the M8311 has an interocular distance of 48mm to 75mm, which is much better than the 55mm of this microscope. 55mm is ok for most adults but I suspect that kids would have a bit if trouble with this.
