Fun But Flawed

I enjoyed the game but there are definitely some major plotholes that are inexcusable in a story-driven game, and the ending twist doesn't really fit very well and feels cheap rather than conclusive.

I wish the voice acting was better, several scenes that were meant to be dramatic made me burst out laughing instead because of the flubbed deliveries. The cutscenes are also unskippable, making replaying for trophies a slog.

It's a game you return to for the characters rather than the story, seeing their reactions to the different branches the story can take is interesting. I enjoyed using the futuristic Matrix-esque glasses to find clues as the FBI agent, but feel they weren't utilized often enough in-game, especially considering how frequently he uses them in cutscenes.

This game did ellicit the emotional responses in me that the director intended, but it lacks substance and after the thrill fades you quickly forget your enjoyment and are left frustrated with the broken plot.

this game is for mature audiences.

is more of a story telling than a game honestly. but the story.......boy........it was GOOD.

it certainly beats all the crap movies holliwood is releasing latelly.

but is not a good game in the sense of player interaction. it's mostly go from point A to point B investigate, solve puzzle and also do QTE events every once in a while on the action scenes.

some of the puzzles were quite fun to solve. but as far as action goes, there's none really. just some real-time events where you have to push the right button at the right time. kinda like boss battles from the god of war series. it gets old pretty fast.

this is more like an interactive movie, and in this sense it is a MASTERPIECE.

sort of like LA noire (great game also), but with much less interaction.

if you think of this as a game, it deserves about 2 stars.

if you think of it like an interactive movie (a la metalgear solid) it deserves 5 stars no questions.

lets just say i did not know the killer until the very end, i did not see it coming.

Unique and engaging game with some rough spots

Heavy Rain was a great game that takes the time to engage the player in a horror/detective novel. If you are looking for an all out action fest then stick to Halo or COD since this game is more like an interactive novel/movie. It starts out REALLY slow but it pays off in the long run with a unique story that draws you into the characters lives and compels you complete it. As you go through the game the decisions you make have lasting consequences as your players can actually die and you can actually fail to catch the killer. This gives you the feeling that you want to do well and isn't like most games where you don't care what you do because you can just respawn and keep going.

That being said, it has some quirks as well. Taking the time to dress, shower and shave your characters can be a little tedious and sometimes you feel like some kind of weirdo playing it. My wife laughed at me a couple of times when I was playing it because it seemed like I was neglecting my own hygiene to play the game whilst taking great care of my virtual self. Second, it can seem like just a really long QTE (quick time event where button combinations pop up on screen and you have to press it quickly/accurately), particularly as you fight for your life (which is about half of the scenes). Some of QTE's are very difficult and frustrating if you fail and have to do them multiple times.

The game is definitely an M title since it features graphic violence, sex and nudity. It's nothing you wouldn't see in an R movie I just thought I would warn any parents thinking of getting this.

Overall, this game delivers a very unique experience that every gamer should play. After you get through the slow beginning you'll meet some unique and some of the most realistic characters I've ever seen in a game. Since the game is so cheap now there really isn't a reason to pass on this one since it's well worth it

I loved this game although I don't think you can classify this as a game. Yes you stick it in your PS3 and play it, but it's more story telling and interactively being told what to do than just another hack n slash or platformer.

I waited a long time to play this game. When I picked it up and started playing it... I realized it was another game where you push buttons as the game tells you to. Unlike all the other games like this, Heavy Rain sticks out. It uses every possible button combination you can think of. Games that are like this should look up to Heavy Rain because Heavy Rain does it right!

Heavy Rain takes the "pushing buttons when told" to an entirely different and challenging level. I found myself totally in the action throughout this masterpiece. I'll definitely be playing through this game again in the future.

Great Interactive Movie game!

first off, i enjoyed this game quite a bit even though if the controls for it are a bit different and odd. you quickly get a hang from it within the first 20 minutes (using r2 to walk forward and changing directions with the left analog, L2 shows thoughts, sometimes tapping or holding a series of button...). the game itself can be completed within 12 hours or so if you take breaks for it.

it's quick to play, the stories in them are all interesting to play as different characters, and i think this game puts the best use of the controller's full potential. it's worth the price and play through at least once.

I only liked it because a lot of the quick time events don't actually change the game at all, it is only affected during conversations and answering questions. I also love the fact that there are quite a few different endings ranging from incredulous happiness to a very low depression.

I loved this game so much that I beat it in one sitting. The gameplay is so intense and exciting that it's hard to put the controller down. Every choice has a different outcome, which my husband was very excited about. We have both beaten it once, but we are playing all of the scenerios!
