Used for IR Photography, Quite Happy
I bought this to use as a light in infrared photography. It works really well so far, especially when combined with a couple other lights. I typically use this and a halogen bulb on a couple work lamps clipped to whatever's available (sometimes my tripod if I'm desperate), and it's yet to fail me. It gets hot, but that's kind of the point, and that means more IR, so I'm happy.Photography Technical Stuff: I shot with an unconverted T3i, 760nm filter, and the Canon EF 50mm F/1.8 lens. The pictures were produced for infrared false-color (IRFC) photographic analysis in a museum conservation context, so slightly different usage, but the exposures processed very nicely when put through both the process for conservation IRFC and artistic IRFC. I took them in a conservation lab with non-IR-producing lights, so this bulb and the Sylvania 14502 50 Watt halogen bulb were the only sources of IR light. You can see with the attached picture (unprocessed) that I captured quite a bit of IR off the costume piece I was studying. In visible light, it's emerald green silk with white lace at the collar.

Short version: Both me and my pets were happier thanks to this light during the coldest winter months.

PROS:
- Great value for the price. The amount of time spent NOT running our heaters (about 800 watts on the low setting) almost certainly resulted in much lower bills.
- Bright, warm light color is especially good for those cold, gray, overcast months.
- Much easier to manage (and less of a fire hazard) than our space heater. Also less likely to trip the breaker and the exterior of the bulb (outside of the front-facing light) never gets that hot.

CONS:
- It uses around 70% more electricity than an equivalent LED so definitely swap to a different bulb when you can just put a jacket on.
- Take note of the sizing -- the bulb is larger and more unwieldy than I expected -- which is also part of why I broke it about 4 months into using.

RECOMMENDATIONS

- Ideal in open spaces that are hard to provide heat (basements and garages) or where you need specific heat for short periods.
- Put the bulb on some kind of timer or remote on/off switch so that it doesn't run 24/7. You lose much of the value versus other heaters if it's running continuously e.g. a space heater that's only on 10 mins per hour.
- Look for a sturdy and strong lamp or housing, ideally something you can point in different directions. Or at least something with a protective guard in front.

I was worried when I saw that the light bulb box was crushed, the mail carrier was not careful. :( I test the bulb and it works, whew! I would pack it more secured if I were them. If this light bulb happen to go out on me in less than a month, then I will bet it's because of this, I will be issuing refund. I would instruct mail carrier to be careful and that it's fragile but we all know mail carrier are reckless and not reliable. Anyway, will update review later. :)

UPDATE: IT works perfectly fine, and works through-out Guinea keets entire brooding period (6 weeks) It is excellent and so warm. There is couple of times when my wooden lamp stand fell down onto floor crashing, this lamp endures. :) Would buy again.

I bought this originally in 2014 as we had a whole slew of little chicks. Winters pass quickly in the south so I packed it up and put it in storage.
I pulled it out in 2018 to warm up / heat our conyure tropical bird that has his cage in the garage. It has worked well. In fairness I should add that
the garage never goes below 45 degrees as we have our garage ceiling insulated. ( but not the walls.) I tried a space heater but the heater kept kicking back to OFF. The point is it worked, and I think that this is a lot cheaper way to go than running a 1500w variable capacity space heater.
It heats the bird. He directly feels the heat and appears happy. I feel good about running it... 24 hours as it is not a big draw on electric and he can trust it is always on and can move according to his need in the comfort level. BTW This bird is over 23 years old. In bird years... yeah. He is picky...

I loved this bulb over my baby chicks until it pooped out in the middle of a cold night.

This was a brand new bulb for my eight new chicks. What I loved about it is that it put out a nice amount of heat, very similar to the three other heat lamps I've used in the past, but that the red glow is a bit darker than the others I'd used. I really would like no visible light, so that the chicks can sleep in darkness, but all the heat lamps give off some light. So I was happy to find this one that at least isn't quite as bright.

However, it only lasted 500 hours of continuous light, not 5,000 as advertised. The chicks were three weeks old yesterday, and the heat lamp died some time in the middle of last night. When I checked on them this morning, the lamp was dead, and the thermometer in the brooder read about 68*F. Luckily the chicks were all still alive and seemed to be fine, so maybe it hadn't been out very long (they're supposed to be kept around 80*F at this age).

Maybe none of the heat lamps last longer than this - I don't know how many hours the others lasted because they weren't on continuously, and I wasn't keeping track. I know this one's hours because it's been exactly three weeks and I've only turned it off for 1/2 hour at a time or so a handful of times on warmer days. Twenty-one days times 24 hrs in a day is 504 hours.

Too bad, I really liked it!

I bought this for my shed. It's cold out there half the year, and this is a perfect low-wattage way to take the chill off and warm my hands. A 125W bulb does not throw a lot of heat very far, but it's very noticeable up close -- not touching the bulb, but within a couple of feet.

Whether you want it for yourself or a pet or something, that's what you want to be aware of. This bulb won't trip your breakers or run up your bill like a space heater might, but it provides short-range comfort, and any nearby surface it shines on will slowly heat up noticeably, too.

Surprisingly worked in a Great Northern 8 ounce popcorn machine, although it is much larger than the original bulb that was out of stock on the manufacturer’s website.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent supplemental heat
Reviewed in Canada on December 3, 2019
These 250-watt heat bulbs are very good at warming up a cold spot, or keeping an area warmer than you want for your whole house. Most often these are seen as warmers for baby chicks. I bought a couple for my outside cats so they could have warm beds in the garage. They worked so good I put one in over my mom's chair so she can be warm enough without roasting the rest of us. Just remember they do really get hot. Be sure you have the correct power supply and a reflector with a wire guard so the bulb can't come into contact with anything. Like any heat source they can be dangerous and start a fire if not used as intended.
