The best wire for prototyping and PCBA rework
My home stash of Kynar coated wire from years ago finally ran out. With no local stores to buy from, I turned to Amazon. This is exactly the same wire I used to built prototypes years ago as an engineer. The insulation is very tough and heat resistant, it tins easily, and you can pre-strip multiple sections easily allowing you to connect several pins together with a single piece of wire. This makes it perfect for prototyping and PCBA rework. This is the first prototype I have made in a while so the soldering is not the prettiest but the wire is great.

Expensive for what it is, but performs well. Good for electronic prototyping. I wouldnt go over 1A on this gauge however. Great quality. Strips easily, I can just use my teeth. I can break it with my hand, which is nice for quick jobs. A soldering iron melts the insulation, which is both a huge benefit and a liability. When I am making connections, I just stretch the wire over to where I want it, melt the insulation back in that spot with a touch of the iron, and then solder it down. Its super easy once I figured that out, and you can make multiple connections with the same wire that way, in series. However, if I am careless and I have a complicated piece, sometimes I'll let the iron rub against a wire and melt it. I've melted lots of components that way, and it comes with the territory of using an iron I suppose. Overall, I greatly prefer that I can strip the insulation with a touch of the iron. Not sure if its "pre-tinned" or not, but grabs solder well. I couldnt work without this stuff now.

This wire is great for soldered point-to-point breadboard wiring. Unlike many wire wrap and multi-strand wires, the insulation does not melt and shrink away when soldering. The silver plating takes solder very easily, so the wire does not need to be pre-tinned with solder before being soldered to the joint as is necessary with many wires now. The insulation is thin but strong, so the wires lay down on the breadboard nicely. And the wire is available in a number of gauges. This is far better than any other breadboarding wire that I have used recently, and it is reasonably priced.

I've been building prototypes for 50 years and Kynar wire-wrap wire is still the best thing there is for wiring up tiny components and tight spaces. Kynar isn't a impervious to heat as teflon or silicone but it's cheap and it's impervious enough. This stuff is tiny so for curling the wire to fit on pins get yourself an assortment of good-quality surgeon's tweezers, preferably made of stainless steel so solder won't stick to them. Also you will need a good-quality pair of wire strippers that let you strip to an arbitrary length, and a pair of non-serrated needle-nosed pliers to hold the wire by the insulation while stripping.

PVC insulation, by comparison, is a nightmare to solder with in tight spaces. Get the wire hot enough to solder and you can count on melting off 1/8 to 1/4 inch of insulation. Whatever you end up buying, don't buy PVC for hooking up components.

Definitely a good replacement of the wirewrap wire that I used a few decades ago. I like that it comes in different colors (I'm using red for my signals). I did notice that compared to my older yellow wire it breaks more easily, but that is only before installing, once in place it hasn't yet caused issues.

I am a 40-year experienced electronics designer and wire-wrap is my go-to for building prototypes before final design productions. I just stopped what I was doing because of frustration with this product that I purchased. There are two very, very important characteristics that determine whether or not the "build" will be smooth sailing or whether it will be one agravation after another. The two qualities are : Silver plating on proper wire size AND insulation that is supple (not OLD and DRIED UP). The latter makes the build difficult because the insulation is stubborn to remove and the silver (lack of) causes the connection to corrode over time and the connection intermittent. This product has a reasonable silver plate but the wire size is on the smaller end of the size spec (if in fact it's even up to spec). What I know is that a competitors wire I'm using now also is a dream. Both products claim to be 30 AWG but the competitors wire is visibly larger and less susceptible to breakage. The competitor's wire insulation is supple and perfectly soft for easy stripping. I won't plug the competitor's name here but the initials are Consolidated Electronic Wire & Cable. The products are matched in quantity and closely priced. Just FYI. I wouldn't be writing a review except that my day's project is delayed until I get replacement for this product and can proceed. (I need multiple colors).

I have used the spool of wire for a number of different projects. The quality is very high and I am very happy with the purchase
      + Mechanical keyboard wiring
      + Small breadboard projects
      + Fixing electronic fence break
      + Small electronic fixes

The shielding is great and doesn't melt when soldering. The length is accurate to the description and is a very solid wire

5/5 I highly recommend this product

AWG 30 is supposed to be 0.01" in diameter. The wire I received measured 0.009 which was too thin for my cheap 30 AWG strippers to strip. I plan to replace the strippers with Engineer PA-14 at 6 times the cost. But, you get what you pay for in tools.

Having said all that, that's on me. It's good wire and works with my hand wrap tool and as patch wire on PCB's. Would buy again.

It's wire that goes on sale frequently for incredibly blow prices and works well for my projcts. I have some of each gauges.

Get the kynar version, you won't be as annoyed with the insulation peeling back as much when you solder. I've got way more than in the photo. 1000ft rolls go on sale too.
